I watched The Trip (2021) last weekend. It had been ages since I laughed that hard, such a lighthearted and fun movie. If you guys enjoy dark humor, violence and a bit of gore, definitely check it out!

Also, last week I watched Superman. I think i can’t stand superhero movies anymore, but this one brought a fresh take amidst all the same repetitive, soulless crap Marvel keeps throwing at us. A fantastic movie.

The new Superman movie. I'm not a big fan of comics in general, but I've had a lot of fun watching it.

I really enjoyed this movie! In my opinion, it is the best superhero movie since Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

I recently rewatched Dredd 2012 and it was "fine". I sort of see what Dredd comics fans mean when they say neither adaptation is that great. I only ever read America. It is easily the best video game movie not sharing the name of a game. With stuff like sneaking around, conserving ammo, scripted set pieces, escort missions, the villain retaliating to what the player does, the movie amping up challenge by having corrupt Judges and Ma Ma's death basically just being from as a scripted villain death in a game. The door breaching sequnces almost felt they were homaging the ones from Modern Warfare 2. Slo mo itself sort of resembles Max Payne's bullet time. It's a better Judge Dredd game than Dredd vs Death.

I also like Judge Anderson more on this rewatch too. I really wish her actress went to somewhere since her performance is quite good. In how she tries to be reserved since she's a pyschic but she also has naive and vunerable side. Her arc of slowly being disillusioned by Mega City One's justice system was pretty good.

Urban's Dredd was interesting in that he uses that gruff voice whenever they can't be reasoned with and then has to resort to killing.

I know Ma Ma is not even a Dredd comics villain. I always get annoyed when these movies do that. She's alright even if she's too much like Black Lagoon's Balalika. My big issue is how her backstory is in a tie in comic which is stupid to me since you are using comics to explain a movie original villain.

The ending is also pretty weird and can enter into the realm of unintentional hilarity with how much Anderson stopped caring about what Dredd and the Justice System thinks.

It also feels like the most expensive TV pilot ever. I got to wonder how those cancelled sequels were even going to work. How the hell were going to do Judge Death? There's a reason why the Nolan Batman movies never had the supernatural. Stuff like the ABC warrior already feels out of place with this Judge Dredd universe. You don't even have any hints of Dredd being a clone or even signs of Rico either. The latter was supposed to be in the 3rd movie or something.

On a side note, Rico "Dredd" almost comes off as Judge Dredd's Raditz.

Movie's enjoyable in spite of my complaints. It's fine in the moment even if it can be half baked in a lot of places.

Getting a list of 31 horror movies together for Halloween. Added some old faves like Friday the 13th, Terrifier, 28 Days Later, and In the Mouth of Madness. Also, some recent releases like Weapons, Clown in a Cornfield, and Little Bites.

Anyone else doing 31 horror movies in October?

I watched Superman (2025) a few weeks ago, James Gunn really knows his stuff. It was a great, fun experience from start to finish.

I also watched Weapons since a lot of people were talking about how good it was. It turned out to be pretty great! I really enjoy this kind of horror-mystery genre that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

These two were also the last movies I watched in theatres too.

I haven't seen GotG Vol. 3 yet, but like JamesLech, I also think that this is the best superhero thing I've seen in a damn long time. Probably since Reeves' Batman.

As for Weapons, I left the theatre kinda feeling like it was an okay and oddly funny movie (the final chase sequence had the entire theatre laughing 😭), but unlike Barbarian, which I loved even though it didn't linger, this one's lingering, and I keep thinking back to it here and there. Bumped it up to an 8. It didn't feel that unnerving in the theatre, but it's clearly unnerved some part of me. It hit some themes, some paranoias of mine that are pretty relevant in the world we're in today and that's more unnerving than most things will ever be.
I'll be looking forward to whatever one of the whitest kids I know makes next 🫡. The comedian to horror director pipeline is real as fuck lol.

That's a great list! Gonna borrow some movies from it.
If I can make a recommendation, add Clown (2014) to your list, it fits perfectly with this Halloween thing.

So, this weekend i watched four movies:

Mortal Kombat (1995) (HLTB Movie Club - Sept. '25)
Great, just like i remembered.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
Not so great, just ok.

Nobody 2 (2025)
Good action comedy flick, not as good as the first one, but fun enough, I had good laughs watching it. 6/10

Together (2025)
Maybe I had my expectations too high. I'm not sure what to say, but this movie isn't good, nor is it bad. I'd say it's entertaining enough.

Watched Perfect Blue for the first time in 10 years and I still really like it. It's hard not to compare this movie to Serial Experiments Lain, they are so similar that I'm almost convinced the same production team made them both even though it isn't the case. I've might've watched them both for the first time 10 years ago but couldn't really connect the dots back then.

I normally don't care about surreal stories that much but it was interesting to see how it adds to how Mima's life is detroriating around her, the more she sells her soul and the scare tactics keep on piling up as well her being drawn to that website where someone is pretending to be her. She's questioning her sanity as well the viewer being as confused as she is. It works almost too well.

It was also funny to see Mima not knowing how computers worked and asking what a "url" is. I was also as confused when computers and the internet was getting adopted somewhere in the late 00s.

My only big issue with it is that in spite of everything that transpired previously, the ending feels almost too upbeat, it just suddenly becomes optimistic or maybe the "soundtrack dissonace" might've made it came off as that.

I watched Weapons last weekend. The narrative is good but while the movie starts off great, the inconsistency, lack of logic within its own defined rules, and conveniences made it a waste.
Oh, and Weapons has a higher rating than Bring Her Back, on both IMDB and RT, don't know why, since, imo the later is much better in every way.

El Infierno (2010), Hell in English is a Mexican movie about how a little town is controlled by the organized crimen, great movie but left feeling bad because I know it's not to far from the reality of some México parts :(

I had to start early cause no way I’ll have time to watch 31 horror movies in October.

Altered States (1980)
****
Really intriguing premise and psychological horror thats well-acted and paced with nightmarish imagery.

Borderline (2025)
**
This caught my attention cause Samara Weaving was in it and I usually enjoy her movies. This was more of a comedy with a small cast and budget. Her husband wrote and directed it and at least it was short.

Hellraiser: Judgement (2018)
**
It wasn’t terrible but it was like a longer movie that was cut down then that cut was too short and they stretched it out. Maybe it would’ve been better as an original story (which the director/writer said he intended to make it Hellraiser).

Incident in a Ghostland (2018)
***1/2
I saw this come up in an underrated horror movie youtube video. I’m glad. This was a nice gem that has a neat little twist. The abuse elements might make it a no go for some so keep that in mind.

Peter Pan: Neverending Nightmare (2025)
*1/2
I’ve seen all the twisted childhood universe so far and only enjoyed Blood & Honey 2. This was a mess and barely relevant to Peter Pan, like Blood & Honey 1.

Still have 26 left to go.
