Thanks, Siver. :) I look forward to reading it at some point but right now I do not dare to start a 1000 page book.

I've finished the audio book Chosen of Khorne by Anthony Reynolds.
I really enjoyed the narration and the sound effects. Usually, I find sound effects in audio books distracting and annoying. But here they are used well. I could still always understand the narrator and the effects are well chosen (by Khorne), making the experience more vivid.
The story is nothing to write home about but it's solid and fun and what more to expect of a short story (1h long). Also, there's one nice concept in this book - the rage induced hallucinations, at least I think that's what these are - that I've never seen before.
I listened to this book solely for the purpose of still getting a "read a book in August" achievement on Goodreads because I strongly assume I'm not going to finish anything else this month. Yes, I'm that kind of person. :|
I DNF The Brothers Karamazov. I made it to 20% but I was bored literally every minute of it and this is too long an audio book to see it through.
Also I'm reading The Talon of Horus by Aaron Dembski-Bowden but may have to start over as I've only read very little so far and that was 2 weeks ago. Currently I'm again more into gaming than reading.

Next up on the shelf is Shatterglass by Tamora Pierce. Which is apparently book 4 in a series of 8. I have just found out this is a series. This is book 40 of the 50 goal for this year.

I've listened to the audio book The Devastation of Baal one more time. Still an excellent book, very much what Space Marine 2 as a novel would look like.
Recently books have taken a backseat for me. I put virtually all my leisure time into video games. Currently Silksong. I have started reading a bit the last few days but I assume it'll be only a few pages every now and then until I'm finished with Silksong.
I still consume audio books but only on longer drives or at the gym.

I've finished the audio book Dante, narrated by Guy Haley. It was okay but suffers from the same old weakness that many hero stories suffer from:
(while the following contains nothing concrete about the plot it literally spoils the whole book as it is all same structure)
The hero starts with a natural disadvantage, a weak physique compared to his peers. He has unmatched determination though and is ever so humble and doesn't understand how much he outperforms his peers. He never accepts appraisal and is leader only against his will and by lots of distress.
There, now you know the whole book. There's two story lines in this book. One, how he became an Astartes, and, two, him as Dante the famous leader. I much prefer his "coming of Astartes" story.
I would only recommend this audio book to someone who's seriously running out of other W40k books.
I've now started the audio book Fulgrim by Graham McNeill. Book five of the Horus Heresy. Originally, I wanted to read - not listen to - all books of the Heresy but as I'm currently only making progress on audio books I've changed my mind.

I've finished the seventh and last volume of Goodnight Punpun. I'll have to give it a few nights to collect my thoughts and actually I'm going to re-read the whole series now, before I could write anything that comes close to being a review.
Just this much for today: Volume 6 was already kind of fever-dreamish but I did not see coming which direction volume 7 takes. There are some parts in Goodnight Punpun that I just don't like, especially the religious cult thing, but the whole story itself is very moving or disturbing. It's also crazily depressing stuff that's going to live rent-free in my head for a while.
As I said, I'm going to re-read all seven volumes now and then try to decide whether I actually enjoyed this journey. But I can say that the story is something else and I would assume would hardly leave anyone unimpressed/unmoved.
I've also finally read the first volume of a niche, unknown manga called Berserk and yeah great start. I'm going to continue reading this. Although my wallet is already crying because buying all volumes of Berserk is going to end up very expensive. But who knows for how long I'm going to stick with this manga. I'm going to have to keep an eye on cheap opportunities on Ebay etc. from now on, though.
Re-reading manga volumes is also going to artificially blow up my Reading Challenge count for 2025 on Goodreads. I'm not exactly happy that books and manga are counted equally there but I really do not want to record the latter on yet another platform. So, artificially blown up count it is. I was already many books behind on my 2025 goal of 30 books, as I'm just not reading as much this year as in 2024, but pretty soon I'm going to be way ahead because of the manga re-reads. I do not make the rules. It is what it is.

I'm currently reading the sixth book in the Assassin's Creed series (I think it's the sixth), Black Flag. Normally, I wouldn't choose to read a story that's been adapted from a game into a book, but it was a gift, and my friend really wanted me to read it. And it's turning out better than I expected. It's a book that covers parts of the story not told in the game, with some areas not fully explained. It's almost finished—I recommend it.
