I recently created an account into this site even though I've been visiting it for quite some time already. I would like to know how do some people use their backlog section.

In my case, I use the backlogs for games I've paused but plan on resuming. Once I've beaten them, I send them over to the complete section. Is this something unpopular to do or is it the intended way?

You can do whatever that pleases you. There is no rules on how to use it. For me, I have a "backlog" sections for games I want to play and feel like playing in the coming months. A "playing" section for all the games I'm going to beat within the weeks or 2 months. A games I want to buy or get later on called "toget". A complete backlog for the total games I have bought over the years. The last tab I'm not sure what to do with. It's just there for filler really. I rarely if ever click on it.

I personally put all games I haven't finished yet into my backlog, whether I've played them a bit or not. Some people put only games they haven't touched yet into their backlog, so use the approach that works the best for you.

I used to just put everything I will play there, including replays, on-hold playthroughs etc.

Now I've separated it into two lists, the other one I named Side Quests which include lower priority games and games I don't think I'll beat until the end but rather just want to check out and see how it goes.

If you want to keep everything in one list, you can use notes to help you organise it a bit.

My backlog consists of games that I’ve bought and still have access to. Feel free to use the list however you like, and you can also create custom lists to further organize your games.

I think that's a good idea, using it for the games I have but haven't played yet, I'll use it for that just for the sake of giving it some use.

Welcome, gaming friend!

There are no hard rules. The site was designed so that we could all manage our tabs however we want. Personally, my backlog tab is for all the games I actually own but haven't played yet. If I buy a game, digitally or physically, I add it there.

I know some people also add games they don't own and wish to play someday. You can also create as much as three custom tabs (from your profile options) if you want to create a tab exclusively to be used as wishlist, or for "infinite" games that can't really be beaten, etc.

Like others have said, use it however you want, whatever you find useful for you. I use my backlog to track games that I'm planning on playing at any point in the future, and I also have a custom list called my frontlog which I use to track games that I'm going to play next. For games that I end up pausing and put on the backburner I just throw them back into my backlog or frontlog.

Custom lists are great if you have some games you want to keep special track of. So in your case you could create a "hiatus" list or something similar if you wanted to. But obviously just use it however makes most sense for you, I don't think there's an intended specific way to use backlog section. I just wanted to draw attention to custom lists if you were unaware of it.

My main logs are:

Backlogs: all games i didn't play yet and i got in bundles,free,...
VIP Logs: All games i am gonna play for sure and games i buy especially for the games itself

The other 2 are:
Online: games that can be played only online
Let's play: where i record and upload games

But for everyone is different that the freedom of using the custom tabs to use how you feel the best by it.

I'm using this as tab as games I own that I haven't finished or retired, or for games I have access to through subscriptions(or free to play) and plan to play in the future.
A lot of the games I have are spread out on multiple platforms, so this tab helps a lot to keep track of them. But I come from the assumption that if I have the game, I am planning to play it at some point of my life.
I just never know when.

Backlog is games you have that you haven't played yet. Having a huge backlog can be problematic if you're striving to beat all. Any games you have on hold can be on custom tab and name it anything you like.

As others have said, you can use it however you like. I use collections and tabs to help me choose what to play faster and not as a to-do list.
Here's how i do:

- Collections: I use Collections do catalog my games, by platform.
- Backlog: Here i have a long list of games from my collections that i want to play in the next months / years. It's like a "must play" list.
- Curated: Here i have a short list of games, streamlined from the Backlog, that i will play before anything else. This list keeps changing according with my mood.

I also i have two other tabs i don't use that much:
Endless: Games i can just pick and play continuously and whethever i have the time.
Roulette: Short games that do have an ending and i can just randomize with the random button, play and finish on one sit.

No matter how you do it, the most important thing is not to treat it like a to-do list, turning the hobby into a shore.
