How does a forum member get the love badge? BTW it's a nice badge. Shows that the community cares about you... hmm

I want to know too. My experience on various internet communities over the past decade and a half always gave me the impression that you have to give everyone a confirmation bias overdose. That is something I don't want to do nor do I ever want to give into doing. I comment on here because no one will chew me out or act overly insecure over the things I say. It's something refreshing about this forum by comparison to "social media".

I can only speak for myself, but for example, I have submitted well over 600 games, many of them old retro games where you really have to search for the information to add it. I will also continue with that as soon as I have more free time again. In addition, I am very active in the thread "Howlongtobeat The Game," where I share my score, compare it with others, and play almost every day. So, I think it’s a mix of activity and trust.

Hmm, interesting theory. I've submitted hundreds of games, have hundreds of posts, and have a pinned video tutorial in the Discord and haven't earned the badge personally. I almost feel like it's randomly given to long-time users.

Its not random and it's not manually selected. There are multiple ways to obtain it and Finnedorb basically figured it out at one point, earning him a (sarcastic) "Unloved" custom badge.

I can't remember the final results of finnedorb's investigations into it anymore but it seemed to be for meeting a set of criteria like certain number of posts and games beaten (?) and I think certain amount of time on the site? Basically if you're an active user of the site and forum you should get it eventually

For the record I'm positive (based on recollection rather than evidence) I got mine in April 2000, a few days before my custom badge, nether of which I was told about in advance. This would have been less than two years after joining.

Nah, there's a separate "Donated!" badge that's green with a little dollar sign for that. It looks like maybe it's for people with at least 500 forum posts and a certain amount of game completions, not sure. I'm close to 500 posts myself so I'll be able to test that theory soon enough.

But that also has something exciting to it. We receive the badge knowing that it is something special and appreciative, but we don’t know how we get it. I like such a mystery :3

Even if you find that post it was changed so it won’t help you

The thread was hidden at some point, and I can't find it anymore in my post history. Basically the conclusion we came to was that you need to post 500 times and beat 100 games while being active on the site. If you donated back when that was a thing this mitigated the conditions a bit, but I don't think we ever figured out by how much.
