I mean by has anyone ever wanted to go back and play games from older consoles especially games that are stuck on older consoles? Games that look like they are never going to get ported. I felt like doing that recently.

I got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of digital games I have recently and decided to go back to one of my older consoles and playing through ‘Thrillville: Off the Rails’ has been so nostalgic. I’ve been even checking out secondhand stores for games I never got to check out like ‘Psychonauts’ and ‘Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc’. I haven’t gotten around to replaying some of my older games yet, but the ones I’ve already started really bring memories back.

What about all of you?

Playing on the original hardware is harder these days, but as for the games themselves absolutely, whether it's a replay or new to me. Currently, I'm playing the first Zelda and, PC not console, but Quest For Glory 1.
Planning a replay of Lunar Silver Star Story Complete very soon. Last year I played Luigi's Mansion on GameCube, and Soul Calibur 2. I regularly return to SNES stuff. Age doesn't really play into my decisions on what to play next, so it's all a hodge podge

I love playing in my old consoles. Right now I'm playing with my 2DS (both games I already have and games I buy). I don't mind not to play on the latest console. For example, when I finished Red Dead 2 on PS4, I just wanted to play the first one, so I looked for my old PS3 and just play it.

It's also very nostalgic when I play the games of my childhood in their original console, such as Pokémon Emerald on my red GBA SP or the original God of War on PS3. I have also re-played the Nintendo DS Animal Crossing despite having the Switch one.

I love to do this all the time! I actually hooked up my Wii recently so I could play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (which is a GameCube game but I don’t have one of those).

I definitely have a lot of older games in my backlog I want to play, plus sometimes I love to revisit my old games too on older consoles. I do like when consoles have backwards compatibility though, it definitely makes it easier to play older games. I’ll generally choose to play a newer version of a release too on current consoles like 75% of the time if it’s an option.

All the time! I have all these new games that I need to play, and yet I just really want to go back to the old games. Most of them are PS1/2 although every now and then I get the itch for Super Mario 3. I always have my PS2 hooked up and ready to go.

PS3 is the only "older" console I buy games for. I go to the occasional convention to buy them, my PS3 has lasted this long might as well milk it for all it's worth. I emulate mostly everything else before that. I don't like collecting PS2 games anymore.

I do some game collecting for the SNES, DS, 3DS, and Wii. I still often play games on the Wii and DS, which were my childhood consoles. I really want to get an original Xbox again since I have a ton of memories with those games, I still have a blast with Fusion Frenzy and Battlefront 2. I find myself going for modern options of games whenever they are available to me though since it's just more convenient most of the time, but for games that are only available on older consoles I like to get and it's usually a fun experience.

That makes up 98% of all my gaming!

For the past two decades I've been enjoying catching up completing my all-time favorite childhood games, discovering games I missed out on playing, and have greatly appreciated the fan-translation community releasing English patches throughout the years. I seldom play modern games, and have little interest in indie games. Also not a fan of digital games in general, owning under five games in my Steam library. The few modern games I'm interested in are from classic franchises- Street Fighter 6, The King of Fighters XV, and the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, Streets of Rage for example.

I sometimes get this itch, but the convenience of emulators with all the QOLs and having everything together in a single place is just too comfy to leave behind.

It depends but I do notice I have to be in the right mood for it. As much as I hate to say it, a lot of the older games I loved to play as a kid are kid a little to hard to get into either because of the controls or the gameplay mechanics. I often wonder how I had so much patience to get through some of them, often more than once!

I picked up a Super NT last year, that combined with modding the Wii U has lead me to playing some older games.

Recently been playing a lot of Goemon 2 on the SNES. My problem is there is so much new stuff coming out, it's hard to find the time to play it all. Next month we've got Ys X and Romancing Saga 2 releasing a day apart.

The main reason why I still got my PS3 is that they stopped making games like Guitar Hero and I really really like to play that one from time to time.
So yes, I do go back to my older consoles from time to time.
SNES for Lion King, Sega Mega Drive for Twisted Metal but mainly PS3 for the move and guitar games.

I've been playing pre-PS2 games exclusively for the past 5 years. It's really easy to pick up and play, and I don't have to put in a lot of hours (which I don't have). Plus, I can play everything I want on the PS Vita, which is perfect for me.

Honestly I like playing old consoles more, I've been working on fixing some of my retro stuff and setting up a different CRT, I just need to get RGB Scart cables for some since PAL region issues, and this CRT doesn't let me use my AV/Scart adatper. Fixing my GameCube currently, just need to get a new soldering tool.

I love my Dreamcast and Xbox especially, they're my favourites of the generation due to how interesting they are. I can play backups on my Dreamcast albeit it's not perfect, but it helps me play imports at least so I can use my light guns for House of the Dead. Xbox is softmodded which is helpful since I can play imports freely and have an extra few games installed, but I mostly play my physicals on it, and hot take I actually prefer the Duke controller.

For the PS2 I got an HDD connected with a bunch of back ups ready to just play whenever, plus since I got it hardmodded AND I got FMCB I can play whatever I want, for the SNES I got a region converter which lets me play whatever I want and I can play at 60Hz! My Master System has a 60Hz mod that I can just switch on and off, the PS1 is also hardmodded so I can play my Mega Man imports, it's great and I'm satisfied!

Not to mention that I still use my PS3, Wii and Wii U from time to time since they're hooked up to my TV in my room, I often play on my DS when I have time during breaks in college. I still have my PSP too and it's rarely being used nowadays, battery is old so my playtime on it caps out at around 3 - 4 hours give or take. Lastly the handheld I barely ever play and that is my GameBoy Colour, I just dont have much to play on it but it's special to me since one of my oldest friends sold it off to me during covid and I take care of it now along with the memory of seeing it at his place as a kid and playing DK Land 3 :)

I'm not elitist when it comes to whether you should play older games on older systems or if gaming was better back then, I simply prefer playing these titles on the generation of consoles they released in if possible and if that version is still holding up. Nothing wrong with modern systems either, in fact I love them, but I can't get the same magic from them as I can with retro consoles and vice versa so they all hold different values and sentiments to me. I accept every system and just love gaming as a hobby and a passion, I don't want the old to be forgotten or to miss out on what they had to offer, and that's what makes me excited and happy to be able to play video games

The only "old" system I own is my 3DS, and I still have a lot of games on my backlog leftover, so I go back to it every now and then. (Although PC makes up 71% of my backlog, (if I remove the games I got for free), so that skews it a lot.) I very rarely replay games, so at some point, I'll be done with the system, but that will take a long while, especially since I've modded mine.

I've thrifted a DS Lite and have a good selection of games, but I don't feel like replaying those. I do seek out a 3DS though, I have an unplayed Pokémon game.

I often go back to the PS2. Mainly because many games were never ported, for nostalgia and also because there is a wide variety of games that I may not have seen on the PS3. For example, the current WRC games are pretty bad (except Dirt Rally), and even if they have better graphics, their gameplay is completely different from Codemasters titles.

I bought a PS3 a year or two ago to play games that I have but I cannot play anymore and I enjoyed.

For older systems I used to play with the consoles, but to be honest, when I registered into RetroAchievements all of this has changed.

RA changes completly the experience in the good way, on my opinion

Regards!

Complete extremist here, never even had a modern console since the 3DS came out. Instead I went backwards in time and ended up building a collection of almost every major console. What originally drew me into it back then was the rise of microtransactions and online, something I always hated. Another reason was that I was interested in playing older games in series I liked. The biggest reason of all had (and has) to be that once the systems are obtained, it's SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper that modern gaming. Old Nintendo stuff tends to be expensive, but Sony & Xbox tend to be dirt cheap with games rarely going over $20 and I can even find the stuff at yard sales for stupidly cheap. Ah, if only I was going for expensive stuff like Silent Hill & Gamecube back then, would've made a fortune in profit as they weren't as expensive back then. I only bought a PS4 and Xbone this year as they're actually super cheap now, physical versions of the games are laughably cheap, most people are trying to get rid of them.
