HowLongToBeat - 2021 In Review

Well I guess that validates It Takes Two winning GOTY. I still need to get around to playing it.

I did hear it won GOTY at some outlet, not sure how many though. I don't necessarily think it's my GOTY but it's well made and quite long with a lot of variety. I can see how it won people over even if I don't see how Forgotten City got stiffed everywhere I've looked.

Of the two I played on there they were pretty good. However I did play some other 2021 games like Life is Strange, Forgotten City and Unpacking (probably more I'm forgetting) that IMO should be on there. Especially Forgotten City.

It won at the Game Awards, which I suppose is the definitive Game of the Year. Personally I was hoping for Metroid Dread, but it’s not like it really matters. I really haven’t heard much talk about the Forgotten City. Maybe people heard it was a loose adaptation of a Skyrim mod and assumed that meant it wasn’t good? Idk.

I'm fairly certain that, like film and movies, there are multiple groups that give out a "[media] of the year" award, so I highly disagree with "The Game Awards" being the "definitive" GOTY. Especially since their nominations, much less recipients, were so out of touch with my opinion, which is of course known as The Voice of The People.

Anyway, much as I wish people had a negative association with Skyrim, I'm pretty Skyrim still won Most Overrated Game at the 2021 The Game Awards for the 9th year running, as well as Most Likely To Be Modded. My guess is people didn't hear much about it? I didn't know about it before it landed on Game Pass but I played it almost immediately after reading the description. Though I admit I don't have my ear to the Tik Tok Instagram Facebook Live zeitgeist.

Anyway The Forgotten City remains quite good and there's still time for everyone to play it before 2022!
