Had quite a lot of free time last month which meant more time could be spent gaming and ended up getting through 5 games, could have been more if I didn't have to travel and therefore leave my PC for a little bit. Quite happy with the month overall, got through 4 games in five different franchises that I had already started before, plus played something I had greatly anticipated.

Deltarune: Chapter 3 - Jul 6
Mega Man 6 - Jul 12
Mario Kart 7 - Jul 18
Donkey Kong Jr. - Jul 23
Kirby's Adventure - Jul 27

The release of 3rd and 4th chapters of Deltarune were my most anticipated releases of the year, which I sadly could not get to on release because was very busy with other things but feel glad that I did at least play the one of the new chapters. It was predictably really excellent, with really great focus which focused on different gameplay styles (which I found worked great for this one chapter) and both the story contained with the chapter and how the moves the plot of Deltarune forward was very excellently done and enjoyed going through it twice to prepare for Chapter 4. Finally finished the final of the NES lineup of classic Mega Man games with my completion of Mega Man 6, which very well could be my favourite so far due to keeping the improvements from the previous games, featuring fantastic presentation and just having a lot of really fun levels and set pieces to experience. Mario Kart 7 was my main childhood Mario Kart game and going back to after not touching it for so long was really great and found it to be just fantastic with a great selection of tracks and generally really enjoyed the addition of the glider and underwater driving. Think I do prefer Wii but 7 is definitely one of the best Mario Kart packages out there, but I suspect I will enjoy 8 Deluxe even more when I dive into that fully eventually, alongside World which I need to get a Switch 2 to play obviously. Donkey Kong Jr. is now the 3rd shortest game I've registered her and just like the original Donkey Kong I found it to be quite a solid little time, especially for the time it released. The final game I cleared of the month was Kirby's Adventure on my journey to experience the entire Kirby series and this was definitely a huge improvement from the first game both in gameplay (copy ability introduced) and presentation (one of the prettiest NES games out there), but did not enjoy all of the levels but definitely came out liking this one. I also started Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles and got started on the story mode in Mario Party 3.

Aside from finishing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, I intend to get through quite a few different games next month. Getting to Deltarune: Chapter 4 has taken me way too long so playing that will for sure happen very soon, curious to see how it stacks up compared to the other chapters cause I have seen a variety of different chapter rankings. Will not be fully blind, but not overly upset about that. Additionally I need to get through the Mario Party 3 Story Mode, which I doubt will be enjoyable but needed to unlock the final board so experiencing that board should be a good time at least. The final game I for sure know I will end up playing is Resident Evil 3, continuing my path to getting through the series and curious how I'll feel considering the mixed opinions I have heard. Quite a few other games I could see myself starting as well if I find the time and motivation, such as Sonic Adventure and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, alongside some shorter games like Metroid II: Return of Samus and Kirby's Dream Land 2.

This month I completed 7 games (+1 Multiplayer)

1. Days Gone (PC) – 8/10
Completed main + side content. Strong characters and satisfying bike exploration; story pacing slow and ending rushed. Hordes were a highlight, DualSense enhanced immersion.

2. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude (PC) – 7/10
100% completed. Most NSFW entry in the series with clunky mini-games and technical issues. Humor intact, but gameplay was weak.

Other Completions:
Field of Glory II: Medieval & Fantasy General II – Strategy games not really enjoyable; felt tedious and confusing.
Caribbean Crashers – Angry Birds-like; short and decent.
Next Jump: Shmup Tactics & Space Pilgrim: Episode Two – Very indie; completed for the sake of it, not recommended.

Multiplayer:
Mecha Break (PC) – 7/10
Fun mech shooter with solid gameplay but limited modes and aggressive monetization. Customization mostly paywalled.

This month, I set a new personal record for the longest completion in my playing career. At 110 hours, King's Bounty: Warriors of the North is an epic effort that I’m not going to top any time soon.

I have also been doing some soul-searching regarding my backlog. Realistically, there are games on it that were purchased or obtained as an opportunity and pose no real interest to me. I have removed about 12 of them and am going to focus on finishing the 80+ that remain.

I am still sticking to my New Year's resolution of buying one game for each 4 I complete, and I’m going to try only to get experiences that I wish to play as soon as possible. This way I will tackle games of current interest in addition to reducing my backlog.

While removing games is not quite finishing them, I allowed myself to acquire Bastion and Child of Light – two games that I had my eyes on for a while.

03-Jul-2025 - King's Bounty: Warriors of the North (PC) - 110H19M
15-JuL-2025 - Bastion (PC) – 6H24M

I have never been great with strategy games and mainly choose to play King's Bounty: Warriors of the North because it is considered not too difficult and can be played on older hardware. I installed it on my laptop and played during my daily commute and on business trips. It took about 7 months, but I got through it. I can’t say too much about it – I found the strategy lacking and, except for a few specific battles, brute force worked quite well. Maybe I wasn't playing it at a high enough difficulty, and the whole thing lost its lustre about third into the game. I am not sure I would have finished it if that was my main focus, but in small chunks, it felt unoffensive, and I ploughed through it.

Bastion is the first game I tackled from Supergiant Games. I have lots of admiration for the company and plan to go through their catalogue. I think Bastion is a case study of how to build your first indie title. It takes a simple isometric shooter, and through a few neat ideas such as self-building world, player-imposed difficulty, and an ad-hoc narrator, creates something unique. It was a small outing, but a fun one.

My Game Size Guide:
Tiny (0-2 hours), Small (2-6 hours), Medium (6-14 hours), Large (14-30 hours), Very Large (30-62), Epic (62+)

Mostly short ones this month, as I've spent most of my gaming time in LAD: Infinite Wealth that I'm expecting to finish in the coming days. As far as July goes, here is the list

Marvel's Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps - Jul 1st
World of Horror - Jul 2nd
Persona 5: The Phantom X - Jul 5th
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (Replay) - Jul 7th
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Jul 24th
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time - Jul 24th

Number one highlight of the month was definitely World of Horror. I think it is an amazing game, and I expect to go back to it to do runs here and there quite a few times. I marked it as completed just because I reached my initial goal of winning with the first couple of characters, but I'm definitely nowhere near getting to see everything the game has to offer.

Also had a good time with DKC3 and P5X. Both played with a good friend of mine. We had actually started the DKC3 playthrough like...3 years ago or so I imagine, and only played once every a bunch of months or so. But we finally got the 103% ending, so that was great!

The TMNT games were ok, I guess. Played them both with my girlfriend one day that we were feeling like some beat em up co'op, but can't say we had as much fun with these ones as we did with Shredder's Revenge last year. We also played through the The City That Never Sleeps spiderman DLC and we definitely had fun with that

Now, for August...I'm probably finishing up Infinite Wealth, and already completed Necrobarista...Not sure what else I'll be playing right now, but we shall see I guess!

7/01 Tales From the Borderlands
7/03 Inside
7/06 Vampire Survivors (Achievement Catchup)
7/09 Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose
7/10 Injustice: God's Among Us
7/16 Everhood 2
7/25 Guacamelee 2!
7/29 SUPERHOT

Pretty good month overall for completions. My favorite was probably Everhood 2, despite being kinda mixed on some aspects of this game. The overall gameplay, level design, music, and visuals are a massive step up from the first, but the overall story is pretty bad. The positives far outweigh the negatives for me here and I think this game is overall pretty great. My least favorite game was probably Guacamelee 2. This game isn't bad by anymeans, but I did find myself getting quite bored of the gameplay and level designs due to how much this game wrings out some of it's gameplay gimmicks to the max.
