Great puzzle game that did a good job showing the ropes without any actual tutorial. Puzzle can be tough but pretty straightforward once you figure it out. There are boss fights too and they were all well thought

Beautiful game. The puzzles are never too difficult (though they border on too tedious sometimes), but still feel cool to solve, especially near the end when things get a little weirder with the solutions. If you're looking to be challenged, this probably isn't the right choice of game, but if you want a relaxed, gorgeous game with a vaguely sci-fi setting to do a little problem solving in, Cocoon's perfect.

Cocoon was built entirely around one core idea: worlds within worlds, orbs within orbs. For the first couple of hours, it plays that idea with grace; you’ve got your movement, your interact button, and your curiosity—and that’s enough. With no overt tutorials or handholding, the game teaches you through touch and experimentation, rewarding intuition with progress and scratches that satisfying itch when you know exactly what to do at a given puzzle.

For a while, the vibe is intact, unbothered. The puzzles come and go, each solved after only one or two Neutron-patented brainblasts. The art direction is strong, the environments are vibrant and alien, and the act of stepping into and out of worlds nested within each other just feels cool. It lets you coast on feel-good brain ticklers and pretty pictures, which is great... until worlds within worlds becomes chores within chores.

Once you pick up the white orb, it takes only a short walk before Cocoon transitions from cute, clever, vibey puzzle-solver to cumbersome, boring orb-hauler simulator. The logic in the puzzles is still sound, that's not the issue, but they start to lean more on juggling multiple orbs across increasingly tedious layers than meaningful problem-solving. The limitation of only being able to haul one orb at a time (unless you put an orb within an orb, woo, how clever!) just makes it a chore. And to put an orb in an orb already isn't the fastest thing in the world, so the amount of times this is required just starts to feel like a drag. It felt more like the developers were trying to flex the mechanic itself than using it in service of the player.

A final puzzle presents itself, you solve it, you're given a pretty cutscene that elicits an ooh, maybe even an ahh, and then it's over. It's a cute and vibey game that opens strong, but ends up feeling more like a tech demo of some cool ideas and mechanics than a worthwhile experience in its own right. If you're into pure puzzle mechanics and inventive design, there's probably enough here for you—but if you're looking for any narrative satisfaction or payoff... leave the cocoon behind and go... be a butterfly, or something. Come back to me.

I have absolutely no idea what Cocoon is talking about, but it's a great game. An adventure-puzzler (some might say 'puzzle-platformer' but there are at most four true platforming segments in the entire playthrough) that succeeds in everything: atmosphere, graphics, sound-design... and of course, a very strong and intuitive gameplay, based on simple but totally compelling mechanics. I can see here and there people blaming the game for its linearity, and they're obviously right: Cocoon seems at first to offer large areas but all in all, it's a classic sequence of basic levels hidden behind a world swapping gimmick. There probably was space for a little more exploration, as there was space for stronger challenges too (except for the few last ones, most puzzles are pretty straightforward and don't require too much overthinking). But in my opinion, it's a bias we can only respect. Cocoon works more than well this way, to my surprise, since I have to admit I was kind of skeptical about it - just like I am with every game claiming legacy from Limbo and/or Inside. But now I actually wouldn't swear these modern classics are so much better than Cocoon. On the lore-side, sure (Cocoon's world is mysterious but you never really care about it), but in pure gaming terms, it has everything right to became a modern indie classic in its own right.

Incredibly inventive that you just need to play it yourself. The lead designer was also the same for Inside and Limbo. You can definitely tell with the incredible work done. The only issues I have is that it lacks the emotional punch of Inside and perhaps it's a little limited in its design. It's a game with very smooth edges. Trying it's best not to frustrate you.

Have you ever wanted to play as a moth if yes then what are you waiting for go play it, but if your like me and most other people that thought probably hasn't come across your mind. I have seen a lot of good reviews about this game and after playing it I understand why people enjoy it. Everything from the art style, vibrant and muddied colors, good audio, solid puzzles and music is great.
I'll be honest I did have to look up a guide for 3 different sections of the game which ended up being about 5% of the total game, but I did look around and try and figure each part out for 10-15 minutes. If your stuck for a certain period of time go ahead and use a guide or ask someone.

If you like puzzle games, good looking art styles or a moth enjoyer play it and you won't be disappointed or you may I don't know you. Cocoon is a short and sweet cosmic puzzle game.

I was impressed by how many reflections the switch pulled off. The mechanic of seamlessly transitioning between worlds was done so well. I figured that would only be possible on current gen systems.

The ambient soundtrack provided just enough atmosphere so you didn’t get bored or forgotten about. The subtle audio queue when you got a puzzle right was a perfect touch.

There wasn’t much of a story to speak of. Just vibes and an alien world whose character motivations you have no idea of. The end of the game feels like it hints at a creation myth but that’s just my interpretation.

I was getting a little worn out at the end. The puzzles got really tricky near the end. Lots of nesting and recursion. All very well laid out so you didn’t get lost but stopped just as it was wearing out its welcome.

The game only crashed once and there were no in game issues. Really solid experience all the way through.

The puzzles in this game are absolutely genius. They're so well thought out, interesting, unique, and are all very intuitive despite the continually increasing complexity and minimal assistance. Speaking of assistance, it's done so nicely. Whenever you have a lil robot following you, he points towards your objective. That's it, it's perfect.
There's very little cutscenes or anything else stopping you from simply playing through the game, the environments and visuals are all stunning, and both the gameplay mechanics and boss fights are extremely creative.
However, there is no exploration whatsoever, wandering anywhere but the main path quickly leads to a dead end every single time and makes me question why there are so many split paths to begin with when they all go nowhere; and the game is shockingly short with no replay value or fun speedrun potential.

I don't know how challenging it would be for people who are really into puzzle games, as I played it to push myself outside my comfort zone, but I think you would enjoy it even if you flew through it. The strange and satisfying puzzle platformer from the maker of Limbo. This has some of the most stunning graphic design I’ve ever seen in a puzzle game. It gives the same sense of wonder as Portal when discovering how worlds within worlds work together. It’s part Inception, part Portal, part 80’s alien sci-fi. I’ve gotta give this one a good score. Wish it was a bit longer (no final boss?). This game exceeded my expectations though. Recommended for anyone at about $15. Especially for anyone who likes these sort of brainy sci-fi puzzle games like Portal or Superliminal.

Good, short. Intuitive in a way that makes you feel like a genius for solving the most convoluted puzzles.

It does for puzzles what metroid dread did for metroidvanias.

You might feel the puzzles are easy, but that's just the game being super effective at teaching you the mechanics of how the "worlds" work.

This flow of solving the puzzles in this game feels surreal. You'll feel that badass about yourself

A "meh" game. The 1st half of the game is too much of a breeze (like "I see the level, I just have to execute" kind of easy puzzle), and doesn't use its gimmick to the fullest. The difficulty is rose a bit in the next 20%. Then, in the last third (it represents at most 1H30), the game fully realizes its potential, living up to expectations. But to me, it's a bit too little too late... Moreover, the main gimmick of the game just leads to boring spheres manipulations (each with a micro loading time to change worlds), which was a bit annoying.
As it was quite short, I still recommend it for people curious about it.

I genuinely don't understand how so many people liked this game.

So first of all, this game is extremely easy. In the sense that I could solve most puzzles the moment I entered the room, and then it was just a matter of putting everything in the right place. But ok, not every puzzle game needs to be challenging.
HOWEVER, what annoys me the most about this game is the huge amounts of wasted potential on the core mechanic. The whole "world within world" thing seemed so cool at the beginning, but you barely actually use the fact that you're carrying entire worlds on your back. 90% of the time they're just your regular energy source cubes that you put in the thing to make it work. There was SO MUCH potential for insane recursive level designs, and I know that because towards the end of the game they actually started doing those sort of puzzles! And they were great! But it was too little and way too late by that point. So what you get is just a bunch of orbs that are extremely annoying to carry around once you have more than two available.

Now, I've heard that some of what people liked was also the overall art and aesthetic. I thought they were mostly OK. While playing on the switch the game didn't feel like it was playing very smoothly, which I'm certain didn't help my view of it.

Overall, I genuinely feel like I've wasted my time on this one. Oh well.

Everything comes together beautifully to make this game a low key masterpiece. The music is matches the aesthetic perfectly. The visuals are amazing, from the alien technology to the traversal from one orb world to another, it’s just awesome. The deceptively simple controls where you only ever press the X button to pick up or drop an orb is brilliant.

Some puzzles will stump you but if you take a step back and think ok, I need to get this orb from here to here and I have this to work with, how do I do it? Then boom, the lightbulb turns on and it’s so satisfying. The puzzles aren’t crazy hard and I’m fine with that. I never got to a point of frustration with them which is great!

They puzzles do a fantastic job of ramping up in concepts and complexity and toward the end you’ll be jumping into one world to nest another world inside that world and before you know you got the whole worlds in your little insect hands!

Best insect ball manipulator game I’ve ever had the pleasure of cupping!

7.8 Stars, really fun puzzle game with unique art style and gameplay. Werid bug-like characters and colorful scenery with soft music really elevate the experience. There are no words, no text, no explanantions in this game. You are dropped into the world and taught everything through playing the game. The main mechanic is you have the ability to carry one orb on your back at a time. These orbs contain different worlds that you can jump in and out of. The puzzles can be really fun and creative with this mechanic as you put worlds into other worlds to bring them past obstacles. Very linear design with only one way to get through and never anything additional to explore. Fun little boss fights too but the final one is much simpler and made me wish they had a big final boss to complete the experience. The puzzles get slighlty more complex as you play and my favorite was the final one which has you shooting through multiple worlds to hit a switch. Also, there was one time you were jumping between the same world through different portals which was a good change of pace with the gameplay. My only major complaint is the puzzles really left me wanting more though. I craved harder and more complex puzzles but felt only at the very end did it reach its true potential. A sequel could expand on the gameplay and really up the difficulty to make this even better.

Nothing short of a masterpiece. No dialogue, no tutorial, no cutscenes. Just raw gaming. Truly one of the most visually appealing games I've ever played. The music is really good too. The game keeps you attentive and thinking at all times. The only controls are moving with the left stick and X for the action button, super simple so well made. The complexity and pacing of the puzzles was phenomenal. I was shocked that I was able to solve the puzzles on my own but the game does such a good job providing you with all the tools and how to use them, it makes you feel like a genius when you figure it out. It's a short playthrough at about 5 hours but it's 5 hours jam-packed with problem solving and puzzles.

I don't like puzzle games because quite often the puzzles don't make sense to me. Cocoon is certainly an exception to that. Its puzzles go from easy to complex, but I never had to scratch my head for too long or think of looking up the solution. One of the reasons is that the game confines you to a place, ensuring you focus on the puzzle and not go around looking for something while the solution is right under your nose. The spaces are also designed in a way that is coherent, making the path forward more or less obvious.

Puzzles aside, the alien world looks incredible, with a lot of variety from area to area. The controls are extremely simple, with just one controller stick and one button to do everything. Despite the trivial controls, the game manages to make use of them to the fullest extent. The boss fights also revolve around the same controls, but each of them is unique nevertheless.

Like the controls, the game as a whole accomplishes a lot with seemingly little. There are no cutscenes in the traditional sense and no dialogue, and yet the experience borders on genius.
