An interesting take on a bank heist with some really well written characters. This is one of the more compelling DLCs for New Vegas with the whole premise and the characters within it. The main issue is that the DLC is built for stealth and so playing outside of a stealth build is a pain in the arse especially being unkillable enemies unless you cut off a limb. It makes the DLC tedious to play as a normal shooter. Still the characters are very compelling and worth going through to the end

All over the place. Story and ending was not very satisfying, especially having to abandon gold. Last gauntlet area was infuriating with hologram unkillable enemies and instant lose alarms, and time limit to explosion, and hidden destructables and items.

It's strange. New vegas is one of my all time favorite games. I 100% it and in the process of doing it again. This was my second time in years fully going through this DLC and I hated it just as much as I did the first go around. The gas and the collar just don't make for fun gameplay. It's a quicksave/load simulator if you don't know where to look. Kinda sped through it and didn't care much for the characters or lore either.

Dead Money is an interesting departure from standard Fallout gameplay that has fantastic atmosphere but lackluster mechanics that make the entire runtime of the DLC feel like a slog. You are stripped of everything you have and thrown in a derelict village with survival horror gameplay although it isn't very good. The DLC only has two enemies types zombie villagers and holograms both of whom are not fun to fight, even though I was deprived of guns (my characters build) the zombies was rarely capable of actually killing me and the holograms were so easy to get I wonder why they were even in the expansion to begin with. Other mechanics are toxic gas (that you can just tank) and proximity radios which will kill you after some time which are so goddamn annoying because they aren't even a challenge on PC, quicksaving ruins so many fundamental elements of this DLC. But it is basically required as I had the DLC end on my in the worst way (killed my player character) because I clicked something that had no indication it would kill me and then immediate after that I did one thing and soft locked the game, not even nocliping could fix it so I had to reload a quick save. A good mechanic is replacing caps with an area exclusive currency and restricting what the player has access too although the game seems to have as many bear traps as it does chips. The writing is good, an interesting theme that the base game doesn't really explore and each character is memorable, each having their own unique characteristics (like a character who only communicates through hand gestures [although her animation fails her] or a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde supermutant), even the characters of the Sierra Madre's past are interesting. The atmosphere is so well done and is some of the best in the entire franchise but these are not enough to save this DLC from its undercooked and frustrating gameplay that would have been done so much better if it was its own game. Also none of the quest completion achievements activated for me, so that's cool.

The first time I played this DLC I remember loathing it. I had no concept of the intentions of the gameplay and I had just come off of playing Honest Hearts which was a very different experience. I chose this as my first DLC to get it out of the way and also because I knew what I was going into this go around. After finishing it I feel as though I enjoyed almost every part I didn't like the first time. I have noticed the older I get, the more I appreciate a challenge and this was certainly there to scratch that itch. I have chosen a more stealth oriented approach this playthrough which was certainly beneficial. The vibe of the Villa and the surrounding areas was eerie with a lurching threat around the corner with the slow and deadly ghost villagers. With your radio silent and the lack of the traditional 50s music to bop along with while blowing off heads with your Police pistol, we are instead met with frightfully beautiful music to go alongside your explosive collar, bear traps, and poisonous gases everywhere. I appreciate the layout and progression of this dungeon inspired expansion. Each new area teaching you about a new mechanic while then introducing you to a companion that will help you with said obstacle. The 3 companions you find are each unique personalities that all have their own stories and plots to follow throughout your time in the Sierra Madre with your interactions with them during the story playing key roles in their endings. My favorite being Christine, the mute Brotherhood scribe that had been experimented on, with her story connecting to the other DLC, Old World Blues. All in all I enjoyed the challenge and I crept around every corner wary of enemies and always hoping to find more ammo. It was fun, difficult, and haunting, maybe not the one I look forward to replaying the most, but a solid gauntlet run none-the-less.

I haven't played all of FNV's DLC, but I'm pretty sure this will be the weakest one. The first main issue is that there's no real vendor that you can use since the hologram vendors don't carry caps thereby making them pretty pointless. The speakers and radios that can blow your head off are quite annoying especially since it can be pretty difficult to see where the static is coming from. The security holograms are also quite deadly and nearly invincible. I don't want this to sound completely negative though, since I did like how this DLC tied in really well with Old World Blues DLC and getting to know Christine some more is great for people who traveled with Veronica back in the Mojave. She also happens to be the only companion here who's not a bit of a jerk really. You'll probably want to play through this once for the achievements and then never come back here again.

Mid DLC. Setting is cool and feels like a horror game and some of the characters are great. However, this DLC was quite annoying to complete. Mostly the explosive collar mechanic, shutting down speakers and radios to make the beeping noise go away. The poison mist was also another grip similar to the Fall Harbor DLC in 4, but worse. Not my favorite DLC but definitely not the worst fallout DLC in history. I do like lore and love that this DLC is very connected to the main game, like all the other entries in the fallout new vegas dlcs.

Good story, memorable location, kinda boring gameplay. Mid-tier melee weapons, a few low damage pistols and 3 enemies that respawn again and again gets pretty dry. Characters are fantastic as usual though.

The first of four DLC add ons to the great Fallout New Vegas, and in my opinion the best one. Turning a survival ARPG, more into a survival horror theme really made this DLC something else. Losing all your equipment and being forced to really scavenge for everything as you are fighting mysterious creatures and having to watch out for your bomb collar to go off. May not have the best action, but strictly based on the world building, story, and characters this was by far the best DLC and it also had small information about the future DLC's to come.

This is a complex one. It brings up interesting points and all the characters are great, especially as someone who cares about Veronica it was incredible to see both Christine and Elijah, but the thing is that it's also, uh, not very fun to actually play. Mechanically it's interesting to be sure but it's just a little much. I heard a radio crackle in real life a couple days after finishing it for the first time and had a panic attack, so yeah. It's hard not to recommend it if you like Veronica, but be prepared for some shit mechanically.

I did not like Dead Money. It has an interesting premise of breaking into a pre-war casino where things have gotten really bad. There's a poisonous cloud, near-immortal mutants and you've a deathtrap rigged to your face at almost all times. And the story and characters deliver, with touching themes, plot twists and well-written NPCs of various likability. And of course, your choices influence the endings of the DLC and its endearing/detestable cast.

However, though the atmosphere created by the casino with its old world blues and deadly horror is engrossing, the DLC is mechanically disappointing. For one, a Fallout survival horror where you're outgunned and helpless might sound fun on paper, it's frustrating in practice. Maybe feeling frustrated, tense and angry was the point, but I didn't enjoy it. And then the platforming bits at the end... my greasy Mario feet slid off those platforms so many times, the game once bugged and somehow autosaved when I died, forcing me to reload an earlier save to get out of a death loop. The engine just wasn't designed for clumsy platforming or for survival horror. The stealth was barely adequate when it was a core part of the vanilla experience. Making it a necessity in the Sierra Madre villa is just terrible.

To conclude, Dead Money should be played, if you want the full FNV/DLC experience. Its story ties into both the vanilla sub plots and references other DLC as well. But beware that you should be high level and prepared for the worst before playing because it will be difficult and you'll hate the game.

Dead Money - первое (?) проходное дополнение для Fallout New Vegas.

I love the story and atmosphere, however, the gameplay is just not compatible. I would have rather have watched someone play this. My biggest issue is the mechanics that spawn from the explosive neckless. It harkens back to Egorapters point of "putting an eye on the ceiling to shoot isn't a good puzzle. It's not rewarding". It causes nothing but frustration and anger. The mission structure is tedious, the level layout is boring at best, broken at worst. The atmosphere and backstory aren't enough to keep on going. The worst part is that the final boss really has nothing to do with the backstory, he's just a plot device. If you're playing this for any specific reason it should be for all the gold at the end. But even that is difficult to do. While this isn't my least favorite fallout dlc, it's the one with the most wasted potential.

One of the worst examples of DLC I've yet to come across, not only does the original game end in such a way that it makes playing this kind of DLC cumbersome since you have to load a much earlier save before the ending segment, the DLC is just not great itself. Placing the player in a new area removed from the entire game, removing all their gear, placing them in severely restrictive circumstances then asking them to care about a story and characters just isn't a great way of going about it, especially for someone who has been away from the New Vegas world for years now. They make it worse by locking entire segments of the game off from travel at certain points, even after completing the dlc they prevent you from ever being able to travel to the Sierra Madre ever again, which in itself is just flat out insulting considering the few interesting things located in the region are things you might want to visit again, like the vending machines.

This dlc should serve as a case study in how not to do dlc. The characters and story are about the only things that make it anything close to interesting.

Eff yeah. Way better than I expected given the mixed-to-mixed response this expansion pack got.

First experience with the foggy Sierra Madre brought me back to the Thief series, sneakin' round a dank old neighborhood with many a secret corner and lumbering creepsters. But that did get pretty dang old by hour 5.

Probably the best part of this story-based expansion were the characters. Christine especially, a silent character that could pull a bond by the time she failed to utter her second line. And then there's Dog/God, a corny idea by the name alone, but a character whose schizophrenic split is more endearing than his threats of mutilation should make him. And Dean. **** Dean. And Elijah....:|

The background story of the casino's creator and his beloved was touching, but I don't feel like writing more. (Oh, man, those looping sentries...;_;)

I broke that MFin' bank, FYI. Snuck out with 500 lbs. of gold bars.

Naw, I'm a liar.
