Incredible game, even if the engine holds it back.

Story flexibility and depth even on a crunched dev cycle. Combats a bit bland, but serviceable.

Obsidian nailed it.

+Brilliantly designed open world which allows you top go anywhere but soft locks you to go the specific path
+Fantastic mix of factions and characters with morally grey ideologies
+Great skills and weapons abound
-Fallout New Vegas is constantly crashing
-The inventory is a mess and hard to navigate
-There is no quick select for the health packs or weapons
Review:
Fallout New Vegas is an expansive and well built shooter RPG. It’s world is built extremely well with landmarks scattered throughout the world that filter people to those locations but also does it with multiple different ways with multiple quests reaching the more interesting locations (such as the 4 vaults in the game). Ultimately New vegas falls back on it’s excellent writing with a mixture of interesting factions each with there pros and cons and locations such as the different vaults and the strip itself. It has a lot to go for it and builds upon itself to make you want to continue the game. The game is not perfect though as I constantly got crashes when playing the game which hinder progress and the inventory was a completer mess with no real way of filtering items expected for the very minimum filters they currently have in game and there is no quick access to health items or weapons. Ultimately New Vegas is a flaw3ed shooter wrapped in a package of an excellent woprld and story that compels you to move forward

Great! I might prefer this to Fallout 3, though the start was much slower and the choices overwhelming at times.

DLC ratings:
Dead Money - 6/10 - I do not enjoy horror or stealth games. This was mostly those genres. Story was ok.
Honest Hearts - 5/10 - pretty forgettable characters and gameplay.
Old World Blues - 8/10 - Loved the story and worldbuilding. The sink was great for the rest of my playthrough.
Lonesome Road - 6/10 - Story was pretty good, but a little vague (on purpose, I know). Gameplay was fine.

I can finally see why people seem to adore this game. The politics between each faction are beautifully written, and had me studying each one of them to try and decide who I should side with. Fantastic music, fun weapons, great story - all around a very good time.

A good story and a very good RPG. Game have been better with a more lively world and better setting as the Mojave desert is a little boring.
Hopefully it will get a remaster or sequel.

Score: 87/100

DLC Reviews:

Honest Hearts: 6/10. A medicore dlc. No interesting quests but some decent characters

Dead money: A bad DLC. Okay writing but terrible missions and game design. 3/10.

Old world blues: A decent DLC with really interesting characters. (The best new vegas DLC for me) 7.5/10

Lonesome road: A short but and a meh DLC. Interesting world but nothing else was interesting. 5/10

Story-telling and impact of your choices were highlights. Compelling companion story arches. I played an Independent Vegas playthrough and felt for all the factions on some level - they were all relatable, all justified in their positions if you listened to their histories. I can see why many think this is the best Fallout entry. But for me, on Playstation 5, 15 years after release - too much jank, too many bugs to ever want to play this again. Not knocking it, they did what they could with the release window they were held to. I'm sure it's an entirely different experience with proper patches on PC. That's why my 95 or 100 drops to a 90%. This is a must-play for fans of the series. But only once, in my opinion.

Let me begin by mentioning the fact that I fell in love with Fallout 3 the moment I saw it on my friend's monitor. It would take me more than a decade after that moment to finally play and, as a matter of fact, beat the game in just *checks notes* 88 hours. The world of Fallout 3 turned out to be as captivating and exciting as I imagined it to be so many years ago, but as I was playing it, the rumors of Fallout: New Vegas being a better game in every aspect and Fallout 3 not being so great in the first place, started to creep into my consciousness. I was very sceptical of those opinions, though sometimes they felt more like a consensus, than a topic for arguing. It was just hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that there was a game even better than Fallout 3 - the best game I've ever played. It was just too good to be true.
You see, however horrible it might seem for a civilization to come to an end, one can not help but wonder: is a civilization that imploded on itself worth preserving? Nuclear winter is a great reset button, a chance to learn from the past mistakes and start anew... or don't start anything and just live off the remnants of whatever is left from the previous generation, until the last woman finds it a good idea to have a child in this godforsaken world. Anyway, the last thing the people of Mojave need is the return of the old system, the system that let the Great War happen in the first place. Both the Legion and the NCR are just two sides of the same coin - let either of the sides seize the power, and it would be a matter of time before rivers of blood soak the Mojave Desert again. It's already bad enough that the two sides have to waste the lives of the young in this pointless conflict of theirs - as if the post-Great War world has anything left in it worth fighting for, as if the world full of radiation, ruins, low-life thugs, and deadly mutated animals wasn't bad enough. So when the time came to choose a target for the nuclear missiles launched from the Hopeville and Ashton sillos, I was more than happy to direct them directly at the NCR and the Legion major bases, hoping to stop the war once and for all.
So, how does it compare to Fallout 3? Did it live up to the expectations, to the hype? Let me answer this question by citing the 26th U.S. President: "Comparison is the thief of joy." And what do we live these lives on the other side of the screen for, if not to, at the end of the day, enjoy them, not compare. Anyway, the person who played through the second half of New Vegas is so different from the one who beat Fallout 3 (and even from the one breathed in the hot air of the Mojave Desert for the first time), that even an attempt at comparing these two experiences would be like comparing Nuca-Cola to Sunset Sarsaparilla.
P.S.Of course, I didn't start New Vegas right after I finished Fallout 3 - I gave myself some time to desensitize from the post-apocalyptic landscapes to give the former a fair chance to rival its predecessor. So in late 2021, after about a year since I threw the last glance at the vastness of the Wasteland from the Tenpenny Tower, I was finally ready to begin my new adventure in the wilderness of the Mojave Desert. Little did I know that "just" 60 hours into the game my life would take an unexpected turn, causing me to make a "little" break from the game until November 2024 - a break longer than my entire gamer life. Today is July 18th, 2025 and I finally finished the game. It only took me 140 hours, making it the longest game I've ever played, putting to shame the previous two record holders - Fallout 3 and The Witcher, both of which were beaten in slighly less than 47 hours each.

Sadly this didn't hold up as well on a replay as it did in my memory. I think knowing the story and the "bounds" of how you can influence the world already kind of dampened it for me, because the first time through I was amazed at how much you could affect your destiny and the future of New Vegas. Now some of the cracks show; the map is kinda boring, New Vegas is the only sizeable town and the fact that it's all sectioned off by loading zones kind of makes it a pain. I played with mods, one of which lets you sprint which was a godsend, it's so slow to travel anywhere otherwise and unlike FO3 there aren't too many random events in the wasteland to keep you busy (also found myself missing super mutants, there aren't too many in NV). Oh and the DLC is nothing special, it's either a lateral move or worse depending on which one. Okay, that's all the bad stuff. The good stuff is still good! But I probably don't need to play this again.

I completed (no-lifed) the main campaign after freshman winter finals. I had nothing to do as all my friends were either studying or home for the holidays. After finishing the game, I'd forget to regroup with my friends, I just started a new save instead and started to screw around and cause chaos. What a cherished memory. This game absolutely rocks. Obsidian created a magical game, and I hope one day they are able to work on another Fallout.

Just an all-around classic. Although the combat / VATS Cavan ultimately be a little … inconsistent in its behavior, the setting & general gameplay more than makes up for it. Not as much character development as alternate titles—and a mix of great & truly abysmal DLC—but still a classic experience regardless.

- Combate repetitivo
- Gráficos ultrapassados
- Muitos bugs
- Versão PC quebrada

90 - All timer. Thought about often and can be replayed over and over.

Fallout: New Vegas is an amazing narrative experience and I completely understand the constant praise it gets.
I had heard many great things about FNV over the years, I had actually started an earlier play-through on the Xbox version of the game but didn't get far enough in the game to really appreciate it, and after starting a new play-through some 4 years ago I set myself on the path to completion. After starting this file in my senior year of high school I quickly found myself repeating the same habit that plagued my Xbox play-through and I put the game down after about 20 hours, but in 2024 I decided it was finally time to dedicate myself to finishing my backlog and add Fallout: New Vegas to the list of games I was halfway through and needed to finish. I made my way through the year game by game and finally got to FNV in November. The next 2 months where dedicated to Fallout and it really was great to make my way through. Although I failed my goal of beating the game before the New Year I got right back on the horse and finished up just 3 days into the new year.
Here are some of my favorite things about playing FNV:
- Game-play loop. I enjoyed the general shooting and exploring of the game. The Mojave is a big place and they did a good job filling in the space with stuff to find and enemies to shoot.
- Sidekicks. I'm not sure when or how in my play-through I picked up Veronica but she was absolutely critical to my success in the game. She hard carried during a lot of the mid game and I would have given up on a lot of encounters and dungeons if I didn't have her to run ahead and take enemies out. So I absolutely appreciated her inclusion and I'm excited to try out the other companions in later play-throughs.
- Music. The soundtrack for the game is absolutely iconic, I enjoyed the song selection but if I'm being honest it could have used a lot more variety. While I do enjoy every song that plays on Radio New Vegas, listening to the same 10 or so songs for 50 hours can get a little boring at times.
- Radio. On the topic of the radio I really enjoyed how a lot of quests would be reported over the radio. It made the world feel so much more alive and like your actions have an impact.
- Dialog. I though every character was well written and you always had a good variety of dialog options. I've heard that the dialog options are lacking in later entries which is disappointing to hear.
- The Boomers. I honestly really liked The Boomers I thought they where very passionate and quaint. It was super cool to see the Bomber flying over during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, but I wish I could have seen a bit more of it.
Some of the things I didn't like where:
- Crashing. The game did crash quite a lot, which was pretty annoying to deal with. (Even after installing a bug fixing patch, which I normally don't do to keep the experience as vanilla as possible.)
- Legion Quests. For this play-through I tried doing some quests for every faction, which included the Legion. I didn't come across many quests for them so I assume you have to do a more Legion focused run to really squeeze all you can out of them.
- The Strip. Now, I don't have a problem with The Strip itself, I think it does a fine job as a central hub during the late game, but I was expecting The Strip to be a lot more grand than it turned out to be. It's hyped up to you throughout the whole game as this big bustling place but when you get there there's only about 3 or 4 buildings you'll be focused on and not much else. It was a little disappointing but I understand the constraints the developers where under and I think they did a good job with what they ended up with.

Overall, Fallout: New Vegas is a great time and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who's into the open world shooter genre or someone wanting to experience that kind of game for the first time. It's an amazing narrative experience and I'm excited to see what it has to offer in subsequent play-throughs and dlc. Not many games have me excited for a another go around but this one defiantly did. Also, I love how you can basically tell the Legate to fuck off if your speech is high enough. That interaction kind of encapsulates whats great about the game.

It has been more than 10 years since I completed Fallout 3 and it's DLC but getting into New Vegas still felt just more the same.
However things pick up after several hours of the main storyline and things REALLY pick up in the DLC. I think the DLC still make it worth playing today even when the engine and gameplay shows its age.

Fallout: New Vegas is an exceptional RPG that captures almost everything of what Fallout should be in the 21st Century. It's quest design, memorable characters, factions, world, humour, and consequences are some of the best I've ever seen; I knew it was going to be great, and it was great.

If I could criticise the game, the combat is nowhere near the standards of even its time which can make showdowns with some enemies feel very bullet spongey. Elsewhere, I found the final mission to be lacklustre, with not nearly enough enemies to battle with. I had also spent the whole game bringing countless comrades to my cause but these were nowhere to be seen; whether this was a bug or a feature of engine limitations, who knows, but it severely impacted my satisfaction when the credits rolled.

I have not played the DLC yet. Will report back.
