It's scarier than the first two games for sure but perhaps not as atmospheric. It does make you feel more vulnerable with the more imposing enemies. Along with the macabre imagery that feels like it's going to swallow you up. Certainly, you can have your interpretations about this. It's not as clear as the first 2 games what things could represent. Sound design and score is great as always. Gameplay saw the addition of the block. It's easier to just run past enemies but I've seen that it can be useful for many of the bosses. Of course, it's still a more streamlined Resident Evil so don't expect any in-depth gameplay, but it works. The over-reliance on the map is a bit annoying though. The thing however, there's not nearly the amount of open exploration as the first game. That was something that really differentiated itself from RE. Level design wise, it's not that unique. Some areas blend together in my mind. The concrete buildings of the mall, factory, or complex for example. Though the nightmare realm of the hospital and church were special. The reuse of elements from SH2 sucks. Looks like they didn't have time or budget. There is a big difficulty spike in the final level, which is a bit annoying as all the optional imagery becomes a pain to see.The characters were interesting. The psychic Claudia and her obsession with building an utopia at whatever cost, along Heather with Alessa being deep within her. Both of them influencing the world infront of them, though it's unclear which of them is doing what. This is the interesting thing about this game. The perception isn't just from Heather, adding depth to the world. Perhaps it would have been better not wrapped in a generic cult plot. Heather herself is refreshing for the series where you can hear her perspective on everything and her wearing her emotions on her sleeves added a lot to it. However, compared to 2, the theming is a bit too undercooked. It never fully commits to the more interesting ideas. The cinematography and the facial expressions are really impressive. Insane what they were able to accomplish on a PS2.

Decent story, equal to 2. Frustrating camera and controls. Liked brave female protagonist. Severe lack of items late game, I had to save scum and it was still a struggle. Final boss fight extremely difficult due to lack of healing. Beat in almost 1 day but ending had to guide as getting late running out of patience.Updated 1 Week Ago

good story, blah gameplayliked:
- Heather's frequent comments on the world around her
- the overall story and its connection to SH1; music; mood
- good voice acting and the characters' acting in cutscenes
- temporary 'beginner' mode, which saved my butt in a boss fight I entered without any ammo
disliked:
- clumsy controls
- frequently abusive camerawork (the hospital boss fight... grrrr)
- sometimes excessive difficulty
- Slurpers and Pendulums (they can go die)
- nonsensical and impossible puzzles on Hard level
- occasionally got stuck, due to needing to interact with hotspots tucked away in distant corners

This is my first time ever playing this and it is up there with the first game. I cant decide which is better cause they are both sooo good. The puzzles are definitely harder, the music is good as always Akira Yamaoka doesn't miss. If you enjoy the Silent Hill series this one is a must play or even if you just enjoy video games play the first game and then this one.Updated 2 Months Ago

Scary, but flawed.Good
- the atmosphere is very creepy. Visuals are very detailed, and probably one of the best looking horror games at the time.
- The facial expressions are done well, for its time. Heather's voice actress did a great job. She sounded just like a scared and confused teenager.
- the sound design was creepy. Unnerving enemy sound effects that put me on edge while traversing areas. Unsettling background music play in some rooms, while totally silent in other rooms. It's a good mixture.
- the game does a great job at making you feel alone and hopeless. And if you make it out of the Otherworld, it felt like I swam through a crocodile swamp and made it out alive to tell the tale.
Bad
- the camera is terrible, even for fixed camera tank control standards. There's a button to shift the camera behind Heather, but it's inconsistent. A lot of times, it just flings the camera in awkward spots, which messed up my movement.
- Heather's attack animations are awfully slow. I know it's for the purpose of horror, but it just feels terrible to attack. Especially when there were multiple enemies. Even if you fought optimally, there's still a very high chance you'll take a chunk of damage. This hindered exploring, as it was often times not worth it to fight, which means I had to dart from one door to the next asap.
- Some enemies were damage sponges.
- some of the voice lines had awkward pauses. This made some of the character interactions feel weird.
- too many locked doors. I felt like half the gameplay was just me wandering corridors spamming A against doors to see if I could go through.
- the inability to pull up hints for puzzles beside the actual puzzle is very inconvenient. I had to exit the puzzle screen, press select, scroll to memo, scroll to the note, then read it. Close it. Go back to puzzle. And repeat if I need to see the hint again. Some hints are long riddles. The tarot card one is like 8 pages. How am I supposed to remember that shit?
- some key items models in the open are not colored properly such that they stand out. There were a few that blended with the background too much, causing me to miss it.
- the boss fights were one dimensional. They mostly have one attack and defense pattern. None of the fights were interesting at all. Felt like I just did the same motions until their health was gone.

Another really special game from the Silent Hill series. I went in really excited for this one because of all I've seen with Heather Mason, and she's really great in this. Douglas and Claudia were pretty good characters as well, but Vincent stood out in comparison. I'm excited to learn more about them all through analysis videos. I really enjoyed the themes of the game, with things like religious extremism and unwanted pregnancy. The ending scene where Heather vomits out the fetus of God, only for Claudia to eat it was actually sickening. Very well made. God the more I write about it the more I think about it and the more I think about the more I realize how much I enjoyed this experience. Honestly, It's probably my favorite one in the series. I think SH2 is more accessible, but SH3 feels really special in it's own way. It's really cool how it related to SH1, and I liked getting to see the notes left behind by Harry 17 years ago. I hope they end up doing a remake of 1 and 3 later on. It's late and I'm tired, so I'll probably add more to this review later. Oh, and I 100% need to cosplay Heather Mason, she's so cool.EDIT: THE MSUIC I FORGOT TO WRITE ABOUT THE MUSIC. It's got my favorite soundtrack in the series so far for sure. I love so many songs, it's great.

While I personally prefer Silent Hill 2 over this game there so many things to love about the way this game is put together. They do an excellent job at returning to a more direct, plot focused story while still maintaining offputting imagery and storytelling that this series is famous for. In the same way that SH2 taking a departure from the first title was a brave move that paid off, returning to that storyline and general overall feel in this entry of the series was perfectly executed on and makes for a compelling story that fits with the overall feel of the series but in a fresh way.Having replayed this game for the first time in probably ten years in what was most likely my first time trying the game out on hard/hard mode did present many different challenges however. Many of the riddles on hard mode are obnoxiously obtuse and near impossible to solve without help from a guide, and on top of that the action on hard mode is a mostly well balanced challenge until you reach the final boss, which demands near Dark Souls level of combat reflexes, but with the controls of a Silent Hill game (albeit some of the best movement/combat controls in the series overall). It boggles my mind that there are 10 action difficulty levels harder than the base "hard" mode, but at the same time I respect the amount of replayability this game offers both through increased challenge as well as hidden moments you may not find on your first time through (such as the silencer, the gold/silver pipes, and the Silent Hill 2 references when playing on a memory card with shared data).
Overall an excellent entry in to the series, and while that might not mean much in the current day with a lot of lackluster titles that followed it is still a really good game with a lot of interesting ideas in it.

Everything from arriving at silent hill to the final boss was great, but the intro and the ending cutscene was really disappointing. The game forces you through 3 fairly large areas with no reason to care about what is going on, and you only get some actual motivation and direction after you arrive in the town. It would be fine if there was one area to go through at the beginning before really being aware of anything, but it just goes on for so long kind of aimlessly. However, there is some very creative stuff that goes on especially in the second half, and having played Silent Hill 1 first, I greatly enjoyed a lot of the follow up that the game contains. I like how it expanded on the story of 1 and made the ending of that game feel impactful. The endings are definitely a let down, as they don't really set anything up or even really reflect on the game itself in any meaningful way.
All in all, I enjoyed my time with it, and I enjoyed the creativity in the environments. Would recommend but with disclaimers.

I played Silent Hill 3 around 2015 and I remember it being the best of the Team Silent developed games and after playing SH1, 2 and this game weeks apart from each other, I still think SH3 is my favorite game in the series. It's got some issues with it but from a gameplay perspective, the older SH games pretty much peaked here. The story is on the mixed side but it's still far from something I consider bad and it does have some things going for it. Before I start getting to the good, I'll start describing the parts I'm mixed on and that is the story like I said, it's by no means bad but there are some massive problems with it. The two issues being the first half of the game and Harry Mason. The big issue with the first half of the game from a story perspective is that everything from after the Shopping Mall all the way to getting to Heather's apartment can be cut out entirely and nothing would change. If you just had Heather get out of the Shopping Mall and cut to her getting to the Apartment, nothing of value would be lost since the plot barely even updates, there is not much in the way of new developments and Heather hardly even interacts with the rest of the cast with the exception of the interaction with Vincent in the Hilltop Center. Outside of that, not much happens and this is the first half of the game which from a narrative perspective can be problematic.
The second issue is Harry Mason and to say the game dropped the ball with his character here is an understatement. The big issue is that within the context of SH3, the player is given very little attachment towards him or given any reason to care about him or his relationship with Heather and any form of knowing about Harry is Heather telling the audience through dialogue and it's her going through the events of SH1. On top of that, how much you care about Harry depends on if you played SH1 and if you like the character like I did, the last thing I really wanted to learn that is that he dies alone, seemingly not even putting up a fight and getting killed by a mini boss where he defeated God in the first game. The worst part is everything hinges on how much you care about him since Heather's revenge is connected to this.
Outside of that, the characters are solid and unlike SH2, I can tell what their goals are. Heather Mason is weirdly enough what you get if a normal person were to act if they were involved in the strange and otherworldly antics of Silent Hill, she's has the most likeablilty and personality out of all the SH protagonists and she's much more expressive. Vincent is my favorite character of the bunch where he plays both sides and likes to mess with both Heather and Claudia. Douglas' voice actor can be better but I did like how he was interwoven with the Order and trying to help Heather and being conflicted on her. Claudia is a religious abused nutcase and doesn't even try to shy away from how much of that she is.
The gameplay is where SH3 truly shines, all the issues I had with SH1 and 2's normal modes pretty much got addressed here. You are no longer showered with healing items and ammo, now you only find them on occasion and the game gives you the sweet spot of giving just enough to get by. The puzzles and riddles are noticeably toned down too and now it's most inventory puzzles which is just the way I like it since if I want challenging puzzles, I go play a puzzle game.
On top of all this, combat is highly discouraged, where in SH1 you got enough ammo to mow down lots of enemies and SH2 you had monsters that died in 3 pistol bullets. SH3 is where monsters take a number of pistol bullets to kill and not only that, but Heather can staggered and knocked down pretty easily meaning running away and only killing enemies in your way is the way to handle things.
The only enemies that can be reliably taken down are the nurses but they take a lot of melee hits to go down and every monster including nurses take multiple stomps while down to kill as opposed to SH1 and 2 where one stomp is enough to kill every monster when they are down.
There is even a weird decision making process with the bullet proof vest. Do you want to move slower but take less damage or move faster and take more damage? It's a nice little additional decision you got to make.
The music is also as great as ever but it's no surprise there. The addition of lyrical songs is nice and I do like Mary Elizebeth's McGlynn's singing.
When it comes to compliants all I have is that the Silent Hill problem having many doors that can't be opened is still super annoying since they might as well be wall textures instead of doors you can interact with.
The Subway level is the worst since everything looks the same and it's hard to tell if you are on the beaten path due to the map being presented in a segmented way.
Overall, I was worried that SH3 might not have held up but I'd say SH3 from a gameplay standpoint hangs up there with the greats of the survival horror genre.

no fim, bom jogo!!!

Falls extremely short compared to the first two. Way too many enemies for them to be anything other than a nuisance, characters and plot are completely lacking in depth, weird jokey tone in cutscenes, pacing is slow despite the game only being 4 hours long. Silent Hill 3 carries the legacy of Silent Hill 2 and adds its own flair. This game does a lot differently from Silent Hill 2 and 1. It takes the formula and turns it into more of a survival experience, while keeping much of the focus on the Otherworld, which the previous games didn’t do as much. This actually makes the experience a lot harder. You don’t have much ammo—I'd even say next to nothing—and close combat is almost useless. Meanwhile, the game constantly throws more and tougher monsters your way.
While the story in Silent Hill 2 was completely different, Silent Hill 3 makes its mission clear: it is a direct sequel to Silent Hill 1. As such, the cult is back, and in my opinion, this story is even grimmer and more disturbing than 1 and 2, though not necessarily better.
This game is phenomenal, and if someone says it’s better than Silent Hill 2, I wouldn’t argue. In my opinion, Silent Hill 2 is still superior, but this game does almost nothing wrong and is just great.

Being a direct sequel to Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3's overarching narrative was intriguing and satisfyingly dark, though it came to its climax abruptly and lacked some of the impact that the previous entries carried with them. The levels are a major strong suit of this entry, with most bringing a palpable sense of dread and an eerie, dreamlike quality that permeates the entire game. My second favorite Silent Hill game!! Heather was such a cool protagonist, and I think she's my personal favorite main character out of any of the SH games I've played so far. This was the Silent Hill game I was looking forward to the most, as it was this game's soundtrack that made me wanna start the series. I think it lived up to my expectations!! The enemy designs are super creepy, and they really appealed to me in a creepy way. Valtiel, Memory of Alessa and God are now some of my personal favorite Silent Hill monsters. One thing I was concerned about was Claudia, I went into the game thinking she was just gonna be Dahlia Gillespie 2, but Claudia felt like a villain I could sympathize with a lot more. Her growing up with a pretty terrible father, and her only form of escapism was God, made her feel a lot less cookie-cutter than Dahlia. Vincent Smith was also a super great character, I loved him so much. On top of me thinking he was hot, I also loved how it was clear that he only had a superficial understanding of The Order, and didn't really understand an awful lot about the artifacts, such as the Seal of Metatron. I also loved the banter between Heather and Douglas, and I thought it was really sweet when Heather was clearly worried about him after his confrontation with Claudia.
The whole atmosphere of Silent Hill 3 is really oppressive and disturbing. Especially the hospital segment, just the visuals and the walls moving, and that one mirror room where it looks like the walls are bleeding?? God that was disturbing, but I really loved it. Just like the other Silent Hill games for me, it gave me this surreal and bizarre sense of comfort that I can't really explain. The weapons in this game were also super unique, the katana, stun gun and the submachine gun were not weapons I was expecting to see in a Silent Hill game. So I used those for quite a lot of the game.
The biggest downside about this game for me was it came after Silent Hill 2. I left Silent Hill 2 thinking none of the other games were gonna come close to how much I loved that one, and while I DID love SH3, the story was nowhere near on the same level of SH2. I'M NOT SAYING ITS BAD, I just think SH2 is the one game in the series that won't be able to be topped for me personally. The biggest example I can think of this was, again, the hospital segment. In SH2, that whole area is full of documents containing information about patients who were suffering from some sort of mental illness, and instead of going down the stereotypical "oooh scary psychopaths :O" route, the documents in SH2 felt a lot more humanizing. It just made me feel sad and depressed knowing there are probably real people out there dealing with those kinds of issues. The hospital in SH3 didn't have any of those. It did however have a stalker leaving notes around with a creepy doll, the notes sounding like someone who was obsessed with Heather. It felt more like "Oooh there's a creepy stalker in this insane hospital" which just didn't really sit with me all too well. It made me want those sad and melancholic documents back.
Despite that, Silent Hill 3 is still amazing, the combination of the characters, the monster design, and the unique variety of weapons made me love this game so much

I'm not sure SH1 needed a true sequel and I'm not crazy about where the lore goes in this episode. That being said, SH3 is an impressive survival horror, even more polished than SH2 (which sounds incredible when you know it took only a few more than a year to produce). The gameplay is sometimes too action-driven but the atmosphere, level-design, puzzles and general difficulty are closer to perfection than ever.Updated 1 Year Ago

Silent Hill 3 is a very good game, but it falls a little short of the highs that Silent Hill 1 & 2 reach.Like Silent Hill 1 & 2, the atmosphere and sound design are among the best in any horror game I've ever seen. The game is very unsettling and creepy while utilizing a few jump scares very well. The gameplay is simple, but great. The enemy designs are fantastic and very creepy.
The game feels like it lacks a little story, with the first half of the game feeling like a long uninterrupted dungeon. This is partly because the game builds upon the story from the first game and doesn't introduce many new story elements. Heather is an interesting protagonist, and I like her. I do however think that she acts a little strange sometimes delivering one liners in very serious situations. There is one moment at the end of the game that is completely stupid and gave me extreme whiplash.
Overall it is a very good game.
