Very good game overall and one of the top entries in the RE franchise for me among the ones I played so far. I came into this without having played RE7 (I don’t like first person and the Baker house gives me too many Outlast vibes which is something I don’t want to play, so I skipped it) and ended up really enjoying it. It’s easy to follow the story anyway and the game also provides a short recap of RE7 events, so I don’t think I missed out on anything. I also played with the third person mode, which worked quite well.I found the plot to be very decent and the finale very touching. I liked the established connections to Spencer and previous RE lore. I don't find mold to be an interesting concept as viruses in other RE games, but it's kind of like a different side of the same coin? It fits with the lore but I personally would prefer future games to focus on viruses rather than the mold concept.
I loved almost all locations, each was unique and fit the theme of the boss residing there really well. The castle and the village outside were my favorites; I wish you could have spent more time in the castle. The factory I liked the least; combining zombies/humans with machinery seems like a novel concept for RE and I can appreciate that they went for something new here, but it just didn’t feel very on theme and was too much “steampunk” for me. But it is just a personal gripe. Overall the locations paired with amazing graphics really elevated the game for me, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the exploration.
The bosses were pretty good and memorable, obviously Lady Dimitrescu and Heisenberg were the most established ones, while the two others were just fine — their design and concepts were well done, but they didn’t stand out for me. Miranda was a little bit disappointing, she looked cool but ultimately didn’t feel very special. Other enemies had nice variety and were quite creepy too.
I really grew to like Ethan as a character, the revelation about him at the end and the conclusion to his story were tragic and felt impactful even though I didn’t play RE7. It’s only weird that his face is never revealed, I don’t think it would have taken anything away from the player being able to identify with him. I also loved Chris’ involvement in the story and was pleasantly surprised that you could play as him for a short period. His new appearance kind of grew on me lol He looks like a tired experienced merc who is fed up with everything, which seems fitting. Boulder punching muscles are still there too, so I can’t complain.
Will definitely replay and try to platinum as well. Super enjoyable and well done in pretty much all aspects.

I’m really happy I finally got to play the sequel to Resident Evil 7, which I absolutely loved back then. It felt natural to continue the story, and honestly, I found Resident Evil Village even better than its predecessor. The balance between action and horror is still excellent. The world-building remains strong, and the new environments and level design are impressive. This entry feels more memorable than RE7 thanks to its original and terrifying bosses, the conclusion of Ethan Winters’ story, and a surprisingly good DLC.
Gameplay-wise, it doesn’t change much from the first game which is fine, because it still works well. The DLC, however, brings something fresh and original that I really enjoyed.
The story is solid and ties deeply into the broader Resident Evil lore. There are plenty of epic and unforgettable moments. My favorite was the haunted house sequence,I won’t spoil it, but it genuinely freaked me out!
Visually, the game is strong. I loved the gothic atmosphere and the new enemy designs. The sound design is excellent, and the voice acting is well done across the board.
I did several playthroughs to unlock everything, and here’s how it went:
- First blind playthrough: 10h
- Second run: 4h30 - focused on earning Lei to upgrade the S.T.A.K.E. pistol and WCX rifle, plus miscellaneous trophies
- Third run: 4h30 - knife-only trophy
- Fourth run: 3h -Village of Shadows difficulty
- Mercenaries mode: 5h - the hardest part of the platinum. I recommend using characters other than Ethan Winters for better results.
If you’re a fan of the franchise, this game is a must-play even if the game does not change a lot compared to the first one. It’s a thrilling horror and action experience, and the platinum journey while very challenging because of the Mercenaries mode was genuinely fun and rewarding.
I'm excited to play the new RE Requiem next year!

Updated 2 Months Ago

I have very mixed feelings on this gothic RE outing, will rank in the lower to mid-range for my favorite RE games 79%Pros:
Atmosphere
I liked the layout and looping design of the outside Village part
The amount of hidden goodies around the map is nice, including collectibles, treasures, animals, and optional boss fights
A good selection of weapons to use
I like the gothic horror themes and the enemies
Mixed:
The story is just whatever
I'm not sure this more action horror focused style fits 1st person as well as it does 3rd
First half of the game was really strong (Castle and Beneviento) and everything after was nowhere close to as good.
Cons:
Doesn't have that unease feeling
Where did the puzzles go?

The game has a strong start, and the enemy character designs are awesome — both the regular enemies and especially the main antagonists. In terms of overall gameplay, this part is closest to Resident Evil 4, especially when it comes to the inventory system. Finally, there’s a lot of space in the inventory — thank God — and the HUD is clear, making it easy to access crafting. Overall, I feel like this game is easier than the previous ones, or maybe I’m just more experienced with the series by now.Lady Dimitrescu was portrayed and acted out extremely well as a character, but she didn’t give me that same constant feeling of threat as Mr. X from RE2. Maybe it’s because the castle wasn’t as dark and oppressive as the abandoned police station, and the fact that she spoke made her feel more human — whereas Mr. X was just a silent exterminator, confidently walking toward me to take me out.
As for Heisenberg, the fight with him was fantastic. One of the strengths of this game is definitely the story — it’s really strong, and I found myself more engaged than in other entries in the series. The game is quite balanced too, with plenty of interesting puzzles again. The developers managed to maintain a good balance between combat and stealth/horror elements (the Beneviento house segment is really powerful, I have to say).
It’s not as good as Resident Evil 2, but it comes close. I think conceptually, it’s on a very high level — on par with RE4. The story from RE7 is tied in really well, and the plot points that were unclear at the end of Ethan’s previous adventure are finally explained. As always, I recommend playing it — it’s worth it.
After a few playthroughs of the Resident Evil series - I can’t wait for RE9: Requiem!

Disliked the story, disliked the gameplay. Felt extremely unfun on normal, even worse than RE7 (while any other RE remake + 5 and 6 were totally fine with me). Enemies were pointless bullet sponges. The start was super frustrating because the proper things just triggered randomly. First time ever I just turned down the difficulty. I just wanted to be done with it. It felt not engaging and not rewarding doing anything well beyond baiting and stabbing at enemies forever. Very goddamn boring. Level design was also disappointing outside of the castle and factory. I really hope 9 will be nothing like this. The story and dialogue were laughably bad. Like shitty fanfic. Such a letdown.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

this one had pretty similiar yet joyful mechanics as the prequel but, as i saw, this didn't made the game repetitive in terms of gimmicks. this took me 2 sitting as well with the prequel, pretty addicting gameplay. the ending of the story left a magnificant taste since i love the stories that are completed once you achieved the main goal of the game (e.g. the absence of the ship part in re7 would make me less frustrated), and this game achieved the full completeness in me. overall, a must-play for me, def a resident evil masterpiece.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

I’m really conflicted about this game. There is so much to like, the setting the characters, the callback to RE4 are all very well done. The return of the “Merchant” titled “The Duke.” The music and sound effects are well done and most of the battles are entertaining. I think my issues with the game it that it tries to be Resident Evil 4 without trying to be its own thing and unfortunely relies of the nostalgia factor. To me RE7 is flat out the better game because of how fresh it was and while the feeling of helplessness was tough at first it eventually became understandable on how to play the game.RE8 meanwhile just feels off in how they want you to play the game. At first you are completely helpless just like in the last game but over time it becomes much more of a run and gun time game. With that said however the aiming is not great and the general idea of just running in circles to avoid an enemy gets very repetitive especially with most of the boss battles at the end.
I also don’t understand why Chris Redfield’s character becomes so absolutely useless to our main character and the lack of information characters share with each other becomes quite a nuisance. With that said the game certainly is not bad but I would argue unfulfilling. While the characters are interesting we barely get much time with each of Miranda’s “children.” It’s also a big point that there is just a lot of empty parts going on in the game and it feels less like an exploration and more of a to do list. Having so many things revealed early on doesn’t help things either.
Spoilers: I’m not sure how I feel about Ethan, Mia or Rose. I guess Ethan’s story makes sense and it certainly explains a lot of things but Mia still being alive and the mystery of Rose that is just never explained becomes frustrating. Miranda in general is really boring because we flat out do not interact with her at all until the very end. Heisenberg and really all the other children were far more interesting and much more interaction with our main character.
All in all the game does a lot of things right but I think in an effort to recapture the RE4 magic it lost what had made RE7 so refreshing and we are left with a game that doesn’t know what it wants to be

While this game is a direct sequel to the brilliant first-person Resident Evil 7, this one at its core is an attempt at making a first-person Resident Evil 4. For the most part, it abandons the core horror philosophy of its direct predecessor, and instead tries to capture the balance of action, horror, and survival that was so perfect in 4.Unfortunately, it does not quite reach those heights, nor does it recapture what I felt made Resident Evil 7 special. However, I felt that it was fun throughout, and was interchangeably scared and thrilled at times.
Overall, I enjoyed the game despite it not being one of the best Resident Evil games, with it proving that Capcom are in the right path in handling this franchise.

My first Resident Evil game I myself have played. I am a simple girl with simple tastes. Is the heart racing because the fear, or because attractive psuedo-vampires are hunting me? A mystery for the ages.Jokes aside. Ethan Winters is /the/ best horror protag. The raw determination to go through hell and back to save his daughter is a storyline I will never tire of, and the twist regarding him at the end was just amazing.

🎮 Resident Evil Village – 77Resident Evil Village offers a blend of atmospheric horror and intense action, but several key elements prevent it from reaching its full potential.

Stunning visuals with a strong European gothic world design. However, texture quality and character animations fall slightly behind modern titles like Alan Wake 2.
Weaker than Alan Wake 2 (lighting and visual effects are less impressive).

🔫 Combat – 78
Intense combat with weapon variety, but controls can feel stiff.
Better than Alan Wake 2 (more dynamic, but lacks atmosphere).
👹 Boss – 79
Impressive boss fights, especially Lady Dimitrescu, though some feel too easy.
On par with Alan Wake 2 (memorable but lack deep mechanics).
⏱️ Pacing – 76
A strong start with tense horror, but the final chapters focus more on action and feel rushed.

This game is awesome. I've now played 2 Remake, 3 Remake, 4 Remake, 7, and this one. While I still prefer 2 and 4, this one is close behind. I felt like it did a really good job of taking some of the bits from 4 and combining them with the base they set from 7 to make a captivating setting and experience. There was a lot of good gun and enemy variety, some of the puzzles required a lot of out of the box thinking, and the exploration was good too. As someone who didn't super enjoy 7, as I found it a bit too much for me on the horror side of things, I thought this game did a great job of toying the line between horror and action. The beginning half of the game was the scariest (like when you're first exploring the village and are unfamiliar with the area and everything coming at you, and the stalking at Castle Dimistrescu), and then reached its peak with what was by far the scariest part of the game with the baby at house Beneviento, which I'm sure anyone who has played it would agree with. Then after that, it turned much more action heavy, which I honestly didn't mind. It made the experience less one note, and made sense with the flow of the game, getting more confident with the gameplay, and your weapons increasing in power.
I don't personally love the mechanic where you are required to back track to old areas to access parts that you couldn't before until you obtain a certain item, which this game did have a bit of; however, it was pretty minimal, and most of it was optional as well. That was probably my biggest complaint. The other is that I wish the castle was a bigger part of the game, especially with how much the promotional material hyped up the Dimitrescu storyline. Although, with how the game went, I don't really know how they could have. But overall, this game is great, and is definitely a must play, as is this entire franchise. I resisted getting into it for a long time and finally gave in when all these games went on sale, and I absolutely understand the hype now. I am fully invested now.

EN:
Resident Evil Village may not have the much-discussed "Resident Evil essence" for some fans, but regardless, it's a great game. It mixes horror and action well, delivering a varied experience throughout the campaign. The semi-open world doesn't work as well as it could, but it still adds an interesting sense of exploration.
The game especially shines in its dark atmosphere, with truly scary moments — and one section in particular that is among the most terrifying in the franchise. Other parts, on the other hand, focus more on action, which may not please everyone, but keeps the pace always engaging.
In the end, Resident Evil Village may divide opinions, but if you like a good survival horror with doses of action, it's definitely worth checking out.
