A nice improve from bayonetta 1. The game feels more smooth and the story goes on a good timing. Never felt overwhelmed (something that i felt playing the 1st one).

Not as good as the first one but still pretty fun to play. It's a bit too short and I don't think the "norse mythology" stuff fits Bayonetta...

Bayonetta 1 & 2's arcade-style beat-em-up gameplay remains as one-dimensional in the final chapter as it does at the start -- because punch/kick/dodge/repeat is designed for a 30-minute arcade game. Instead, Platinum drags the mechanic out for 12 hours, throws in painstakingly long cutscenes devoid of context and establishing shots, and tries to drive a bizarre plot with nobody behind the wheel.

Completionists will quickly find themselves irritated by not being able to backtrack or restart at/replay specific verses for that one missed crow, treasure box, or Muspelheim, forcing a full replay of the hour-long chapter.

There's no build-up to any sort of climax when every chapter and boss battle is treated as such.

Rewards are given for making quick work of enemies with a single, unbroken combo -- something the game should help the player train for but doesn't. The lack of a practice arena and tutorial missions is an enormous miss.

Reviews gush about how 2 fixed 1's problems. Nothing is fixed -- it's the exact same game. Everything that made the first one unrewarding, repetitive, and disengaging has been ported over. After the fifth chapter I found myself begging "when is this over?"

Bayonetta is the most disappointing, frustrating, biggest letdown of a franchise I've played in 35 years. The only difference between this and the first game is a haircut.

Pros - I feel like the gameplay is much better than the first game. (Almost) No annoying driving/shooting segments. Normal difficulty feels like normal instead of ball busting like the first game. Lots of nice little quality of life features were added and little mini games/challenges that make the levels more fun to explore. Also the visuals are improved - bright and saturated colors instead of muddy brown.

Cons - I feel like it lost a bit of the fun and campy quality of the first one. Not as many ridiculous moments or funny character interactions. The boss fights are pretty weak and boring. Very samey and very few interesting set pieces.

This is my first entry to the Bayonetta series. Gameplay is fast paced but smooth. The story is good and the sound track really ads flavor to the entire experience. Visually enticed with Bayonetta and all the characters. Some of the combos and weaving are weird but I like it. Starting the game, I really suck in timing dodges and achieving witch time, but through time I got the hang of it. Anyway, with this, I can see myself playing all the other games in the series.

Bayonetta 2 is just as awesome as the first game. I think I was even more into it than the first game, since I have a basic grasp on the combat mechanics and am halfway decent at dodging this time. The alternate stages were WAY easier in this game, which I really appreciate. I don't remember much of the first game's story, but this game really connected a ton of loose ends and explained a lot, and now I wanna go back and do a run through of Bayo 1 again. Awesome awesome awesome hack and slash action games with a ton of depth.

Bayonetta 2 is certainly impressive in terms of gameplay, offering combat as satisfying as the first game. The dodging mechanic continues to be a standout, and Bayonetta's fluid, fast-paced combat remains one of the most enjoyable in the hack-and-slash genre. However, while the gameplay shines, the rest of the experience didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

In comparison to the original Bayonetta, I found Bayonetta 2 to be a bit messy, especially in terms of progression and level design. The level and boss designs felt underwhelming compared to the first game, and the pacing wasn’t as smooth. If I were to compare it to music, the first game felt like a calm, focused metal track that I could groove to, while the sequel introduced a lot of chaotic noises that disrupted the flow, even though it was more intense.

Overall, while Bayonetta 2 offers fantastic combat and flashy action, it lacks the same level of polish and appeal in its design and pacing as the original. Here’s hoping Bayonetta 3 brings back some of that magic.

Initial impressions: they ditched the x360 gray for more vibrant colors. Gameplay mains mostly the same but with a new devil trigger like ability. Music instantly stands out more with vocal tracks. The game balance is mostly better and the set piece fights are excellent. What holds this game is its middling story. Loki is a little shit and the final battle is anticlimactic

Bayonetta is one of the best & most underrated series in gaming PERIOD. Replaying this game in 2022 right before 3 comes out made me love it even more than I did all those years ago in my first (admittedly rough) playthrough. The Bayonetta games may have my favorite combat system in any game (rivaled by the new Spider-Man games & some others) And I may be in the minority, but I really enjoy the stories of both games! I prefer Bayo 1’s story to Bayo 2’s, but the combat of 2 >1. The story pacing is a bit wonky, but things always escalate out of control by the end, I truly love how ridiculous and campy these games get. Bayonetta herself is the icon, the legend & the moment. BUY BAYONETTA 3!!!

Among the best Beat em' ups

Good
- Exhilarating combat and pace
- Extremely epic cinematics
- Interesting story. Rare for a beat em up game.
- Controls were very smooth. Being able to cancel combos into a parry, then continuing the combo after added so much depth to the combat.
- Such a wide variety of techniques that enhances the combos you can do. It allows you to be creative with combos, and use it to really stylish.
- Hard and Climax mode facilitates the extra techniques and combos, requiring you to master the inputs and perfect your combos, and timing. A good way to keep those who want to be hardcore playing the game. Also adds replay value for those who want to earn the best medals.
- The dialogue was hilarious, and serious when it needed to be.
- Voice acting was top notch.
- Music was great. Up beat music would play during a finisher, relieving the stress built up during the battle. Moon River is also a fitting song.

Bad
- Camera can be in a bad position at times, making you miss an enemy attack animation, thus failing a parry. This was understandable, given the amount of movement there was during combat.

Very fun hack'n'slash game. Story was pretty silly but that is not why I played the game anyway. Really like the pace of the game and enjoy that it is a quicker game (although it is a little TOO short of a game) to complete. I always enjoy fast paced big boss games so I will definitely be looking forward to the next one!

Man I wanted so badly to like this game, and for the first few hours I really did! It felt like they took everything from the first game and just made it bigger and better. Especially the opening two missions - the set pieces were really good overall.

But as my time with the game increased I found myself not finding the combat encounters to be nearly as exciting. I'm not usually a cheeser in action games but it didn't feel like this game encouraged experimentation as much as its predecessor. Huge variety of enemies and designs (which are awesome) but a lot of fights end up feeling the same with types being something like a grunt, heavy, flying, ranged, defensive type.

The Muspelheim portals also felt significantly easier than the Alfheim portals in 1 - there were maybe 3 in my playthrough that I had to retry a few times. Exploration and level design are worse too imo and felt more like Doom 2016 than some other action games.

Story presentation was fine, the plot was whatever, but we also barely get any characters in game aside from Loki and Bayonetta. I liked Luca and Rodin's moments but they're few and far between. The final boss was also a joke and felt nearly identical to a boss fight from a chapter earlier. Which makes sense in context of the story but idk.

Lastly I liked the way the world looks but graphically the Switch is kind of ugly IMO.

I'm in the minority on this one but this game did not live to my expectations.

Game fixes every issue I had with the first one.
Color pallet is diverse instead of grey monotonity, no more bullshit QTEs, better progression (no leg-breaking difficulty spikes, you get fun weapons faster), overall much better pacing, nothing overstays it's welcome.
Combat was already great, bit this game improves on it even more with Umbran climax mechanic. Now you have good use for magic gauge against big enemies or groups.

8.5/10. Arguably the most polished action game of all time. The gameplay is sublime, but the game loses points for it's terrible excuse for a story. Not as ambitious as the superior The Wonderful 101 and therefore doesn't reach the same heights, but the gameplay is more consistent.

**For the right person the gameplay is likely S tier. This is one of the few types of games where I can't learn how to play it well**

Gameplay 1.5/3 it's interesting but did not capture me. For gameplay alone I wouldn't seek this game out
Story 3/3 sometimes a bit whacky. Enjoyable overall
Visuals 2/2 great style and great character design. Interesting enemy designs too
Audio 2/2 great music and voice acting

I'm not sure what needs to be said here. The game is fun as hell, the action is about as stylish and high octane as it gets. Having gone back to finish this well after I beat DMC 5, it is extremely evident how strange and over the top platinum is willing to go.

The story is certainly not a highlight, even if I find Bayonetta's tale kind of fascinating and heart warming. But it doesn't need to be because going through this game is a joy ride. I also appreciate that this game respects your time so much, as I finished my normal mode playthrough (doing some of the side challenges in levels) in just under 8 hours. This felt perfect as one can easily get through the experience and basically feel whiplash afterwards.

Overall, this is about as much fun as anyone will have with a character action game and it is certainly there with/at the top of the genre in my experience.
Absolutely a must play for anyone who likes a good action game.

A masterclass of a Beat them all, the story is surprisingly catching (compared to what you expect of a BTA), the GamePlay is even better than 1 with more permissive combo windows and mechanics coupled with better camera making you more prone to making various combos instead of repeating a single string, the drawback is that the game is maybe easier but not a walk in the park either

Over the top and very fun, just like the first Bayonetta. Polished graphics and gameplay, though not without some frustrating controls/hits. Slightly more forgiving on combo timing than the first game, which is appreciated. Apparently the Switch version has a more stable frame rate, but honestly, I didn't notice any issues with this Wii U version. I saw improvements in the text/layout of menus, particularly Rodin's shop, which is minor, but a nice touch. Speaking of the shop, I do think the extra treasures and costumes are way too "expensive" for casual players, but for die-hards, I guess they provide incentive to keep playing. Anyway, it's a really stylish and overall great hack n' slash game.

A modern classic that certainly ages better than its predecessor. Partially due to being half as old, but also due to being more tightly designed, too. I still recommend playing Bayonetta 1 and 2 in order rather than skipping straight to the sequel, and regardless, this is an essential titan that you should not miss if you care about the stylish action genre.
