HowLongToBeat 2023 In Review

Hello everyone! Its that time of year again! Hope you had an amazing 2023.

No surprise about Metroid Prime there given the remaster. Nice to see the PS2 just keeps hanging on!

Damn you got to love how much the PS3 is still kicking lmao. I still play one game a month on my slightly over a decade old one. I just buying random PS3 games at conventions even if some of the games I end of up getting I just do not like at all. It's just fun to try out random stuff. Might find something good even if I feel like I covered most of the bases at this point.

Interesting how MGS1 is more played than 2 and 3. Maybe it's deserved, I prefer the former over the latter 2 games.

Almost half of my completions were on PC this year. Didn't expect that, but I played some fun games. Only 2 from the HLTB lists though.

I didn't expect a lot of people to complete Hogwarts Legacy.

PS3 is also going strong, which is surprising to me.

My assumption is that because 2+3 have been available on ps360/Xbox One, that people are focusing on MGS1 because of the collection, or playing it through other means because of the collection reviving interest. maybe it's just been too long since people played it versus the other two and some people might be waiting for the remake of 3. Maybe people just haven't got around to finishing the other games in the collection yet.

Most of the retro chart is due to rereleases and its natural that compilations would be biased towards the first entry

I am so glad Nintendo is doing this now if Nintendo would just add achivments.

One big reason why I bought the Master Collection was so I can play MGS1 without going to the PS3 storefront so fair enough. All though MGS isn't the first entry Metal Gear 1 on the MSX is. Whole thing is just confusing.

2023 is a great year. These stats are so fun to look at.

Kind of low numbers. Part of that is just fewer games this year period, and part of it is playing other stuff not through Switch or Steam.

Honestly shocked Wolfenstein 3D is my 5th most played game this year, I only have about 12 hours on it

I really like the Steam review stats. So fun to look at, really well done. Also small things like this: I replayed Hades this year, the headline on the timechart is "In the names of Hades! Olympus, we accept this Replay!".

edit: Funny thing is I never play Souls-Likes, except Elden Ring, and I don't like Roguelikes, except Hades.


That really surprises me. I would have guessed gamers, other Steam users, would tend much more to newer games (than me, than is shown here).
The other numbers are 71% (me, games releases 1-7 years ago) vs 52% (average player) and 12 % (me, games released in 2023) vs. 9% (average player).

20% of my playtime on Linux.
