One French YouTuber (s/o to Jean-Baptiste Show) said, when reviewing the game, that’s it’s a game you hate to love. I agree with him, although I see a lot of people online doing the opposite: they love to hate it.

Speaking only about what it made me feel, I would say it’s not a perfect game, nor is it the game of the decade. And yet, this game did a lot of good. It expanded the world it built in the first part. It developed even more characters, some you’d never guess you’ll feel empathy for. It explored grief, hatred, vengeance, guilt, joy and hope, too. I feel like the whole team working on this game gave so much of themselves, and this is beautiful to know and feel through the story.

Besides that, I would have loved for the story to end like 5 hours before it did. I almost stopped playing all in all several times, because it was soooo long. I have finished Days Gone without problem, it never felt too long, but this did. It’s true to say that I, as anyone else, expected a lot from this second part, but this doesn’t mean it’s necessarily game length-related.

All in all, if one day we see a third part, I’d definitely check it out. I hope it will find something new to tell, now that we’ve went through the discovery of this world and then the aftermath of our actions. But if this is the end, it was great. I hope it won’t just stop on the basis of all the hate it received, of the negative backlash it had. I enjoyed the characters. Please don’t stretch their stories just for the sake of it, but heck yes if there’s more to tell.

What the game does well:

- It explores vengeance and love in many ways
- It isn’t afraid to shock the player and to turn things upside down
- You clearly feel empathy for both Ellie and Abby
- The very cool-looking and diverse places we explore
- There’s a clear path to the future from here

What it does less well:

- It’s SO long and there are SO MANY false endings
- The game tells you so many times that’s there SO MUCH MORE way to go, it feels like it’s tired of itself
- The pacing of the story, leading to a sense of false endings in the first place

Games to which it has payed homage to: Days Gone (bike), Hotline Miami (someone playing it on PSP)

Very solid story and character backed up by an amazing world design and gameplay.
Visually superb with a sound ambiance that goes with it, was an overall amazing experience.

I simply was less impacted by the story of vengeance this opus offered compared to the first one.

Gameplay was awesome! Great stealth and enemy AI, breathtaking visuals and set pieces. Story was pretty good too. Memorable grey characters. They really got me with what they were trying to do. Found myself really seeing through Abbies eyes at the end.

Got a lot to say about this one. Originally played it back when it first came out and understood all the controversy over the story. So I decided to play through Part 1 and Part 2 back to back and see if revisiting it leaves me feeling any different. The short answer is no, not really.

The graphics are incredible and Naughty Dog will always be commended for creating amazing looking worlds with first class visuals. The performances are also top tier and everyone deserves praise. The gameplay is where things start to dip a bit and the positives turn more into negatives.

The gunplay is just as fun and brutal as the first game, with even more side weapons and equipment to choose from. It really makes each encounter feel like an open sandbox for you to tackle how you see fit. The difficulty is also pitch perfect as well, since you can tailor make it by changing the difficulty for specific areas. I had most things on Survivor (the hardest difficulty) and it was a very enjoyable experience. The game really starts to feel stale for two main reasons, formulaic level design and the scavenging sections. This game really could be renamed, "Scavenging Simulator: The Quest for Garbage" because you'll find yourself scavenging every inch of every level for resources to craft equipment and upgrade skill trees. It becomes very excessive and even tho I found myself continually doing it, I didn't enjoy it. And the levels really devolve into the same format. A decently open area crawling with either regular humans, infected, or Scars that you have to navigate to get to a door that you have to slowly open, and once you're on the other side, you've effectively moved on to the next area, leaving all of those enemies behind. Rinse and repeat for 30 hours.

So now to the story. Tho I do think the narrative ideas are intriguing, the execution just isn't there. Yes, we all understand that perspective is what changes everything for everyone. One person may be your hero, while they are a villain to someone else. That idea is beaten over the head for 30 hours and gets so tiring. The game is endlessly bleak and full of miserable people experiencing one tragedy after the next. The whole thing leaves you feeling, what was the point? Everything feels so forced and narratively manipulative. Abby's story is intriguing and the characters in her story are too, but we're never given enough time to get to know anyone enough to care. Ellie's story just boils down to revenge, plain and simple. In the end she doesn't learn anything and everyone just ends up miserable.

I think with better writing, and more time for this idea to breathe, this could have been something very profound and awesome. But as it was made, it feels forced, rushed, and trying to mean something without truly earning it. It's a shame because the first game is an absolute masterpiece. This game will forever be the "what if" scenario marred by bad writing and incompetent direction. And that makes me feel like one of the characters in this world, sad, miserable, and hopeless. Thanks for nothing Naughty Dog!

Score’s edging more into 3.5/5 but whatever

I swore to myself to play TLoU P2 thoroughly before fully judging the game’s story. “Can’t be that bad”, right? Screw you Druckmann holy fuck. Some spoilers in the review.

First, the game starts with absolute bullshit writing where a certain character dies in the most absurd way possible, but what is actually more absurd is how they write Abby in a way that makes you despise her so fucking much at first, but that’s not even the best part I’ll bring up later.

After that, the game pans to Ellie’s part of the story which is… worse than mediocre. Side characters suck, Ellie’s character keeps becoming inconsistent as fuck and deaths just happen for absolutely no damn reason - just to make you feel miserable. Telltale at least tried making reasons up. Annoying part of the game and I hated going through it.

After that, you get the unique good part of the game - which, weirdly, I kept getting told it was the worst part - but surprisingly, Abby’s story is actually good and I don’t have anything truly negative to say about it honestly. Goes beyond me why did they initially present her as an obnoxious character where she’s actually the best character in the damn game.

After that, realistically, the game could’ve just ended there and the message would be delivered just fucking fine. But nope, Mr. Druckmann is here to waste even MORE of your time with the completely stupid nonsense epilogue that expands on the world for no reason and spends more time to deliver the same message the game delivered a few hours ago but in a suffocatingly worse way. I overall have a huge hate boner for the way Druckmann wants to make you feel miserable, as it’s always forced and often times bullshit.

Something I didn’t mind personally but will also note, is that this game is really fucking obsessed with identity narrative. Hot steamy lesbians, not-so-female-looking females, trans reps hunted down by everybody, and so on. Sheesh. Haven’t seen this much in a while.

That’s about all I’ll say about the story, really. It just pisses me off and I honestly expected that to happen when I started playing. I’ll say a few words about the gameplay instead. It’s good. It’s a survival shooter game, same as TLoU 1, but expanded with lots of QoL. It’s great and the difficulty settings makes it easy to go between “go ham mode” and rewarding you for being stealthy and careful. If nothing else, I wish there was more nuance to it and the game made you swap between stealth and ham sections without having you choose when.

Oh and Ellie’s gameplay sections were fucking crap, the stage design felt completely boring and uninspired compared to Abby’s or TLoU 1. The epilogue stages are nonsense and are straight out of Uncharted.

Visuals are also great. Dunno what to say here. PC port’s good I guess. Got random floating arrows at the end though.

That’s it, have fun.

Possibly the best video game story I've experienced, so many intense moments, and I felt emotionally attached to the characters. Exceptional writing and voice acting. Breathtaking vistas. Gunplay was very satisfying using my arsenal and many options. Ellie and Abby are such badasses. Only letdown was the constant need to scavenge which massively dragged down the pacing. Ending was crazy.

The PC Variant of this game is honestly the worst variant of this game. While you do get other customization options, the need to compile shaders in the background of play significantly hinders some of the time needed to continue moving forward due to the game stalling up without any real indication of when or why it's doing it. If this port was better, I'd easily put this as almost a 10/10 game.

The disparity of QTEs and the generally confusing controls are off-putting at first. Between holding and spamming, and knowing which button to use, the gameplay is unoriginal but well executed as a whole (a cover shooter with RPG elements). The companion's movements remain ridiculous during tense phases, and are downright annoying at times. Stalkers remain the game's most interesting enemy archetype but truthfully fighting any infected is far more stimulating than fighting the average human (humans always seem moronic while the zombies' AI is more acceptable due to their nature). The disparity is all the more dramatic when you consider all the work that went into the reactive dialogue of said humans (they've got individual names and call out to each other tongive instructions or out of sadness as you kill one of them, putting some weight behind what you're doing). But Naughty Dog remains Naughty Dog; the mastery of video game storytelling is evident and, if not to the same extent as in the first game because of how much longer it is, still motivates you to play for hours on end to see what happens next and what emotion may trigger in you in response.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered (PC) is a brutal, emotionally charged experience wrapped in some of the best gameplay and visuals the genre has to offer. Combat is fluid, stealth is intense, and the new No Return mode adds serious replayability. While the story is powerful, its controversial choices, especially regarding Joel, may not sit well with everyone. Performance on PC can be rough without Frame Generation, even on high-end GPUs. Still, it’s a must-play for fans of narrative-driven action games.

I'm struggling to write this review. This game was a masterpiece in story telling, visuals, gameplay, and music.

History: I really enjoyed the first game and was super angry like the online mob about this game. I hated that they killed Joel, I hated that you play as his murderer, and I hated knowing that she lives through the whole game. I tried to play the original PS4 game but couldn't get into it. I found it to difficult and the lack of Joel lame so I returned it to my friend (who I borrowed it from). I saw the remaster on sale for a good price and decided to buy it and give it a fair chance.

Story (I liked): Joels death was just as painful the second time around and I liked that they use him as a jumping off point for the story. I also really liked the various flashbacks that gave us a whole mini story of Ellie finding out and hating Joel for what he did in Salt Lake City and ultimately forgiving him just before his death. I enjoyed every section where we played as Ellie. The initial section up to the death of Jessie was some of the most fun I've ever had. I enjoyed seeing Ellie slowly devolve and Dina noticing how aggressive she has become. I liked the scene where they reveal Dina is pregnant and Ellie yells "You're a burden now". I liked every scene where Ellie killed Abby's friends, especially Mel and Owen. Seeing Ellie nearly throw up cause she killed a pregnant woman (most likely thinking of Dina). I liked a couple things in Abby's section, mainly the huge set piece when we go to the Scars' island, the sniper battle against Tommy was amazing, the stealth battle against Ellie (seeing how the Wolves see Tommy and Ellie was cool asf). The ending with Abby getting caught and Ellie fighting through an army while being injured for revenge was fantastic. Seeing Ellie and Tommy lose everything they held dear for revenge (that isn't even completed) was amazing and seeing how Ellie can't play Guitar was heart breaking.

Story (didn't like): Abby's section left a lot to be desired. Firstly, I hated how you just switch into Abby at the climax of the game. This sudden switch felt jarring and slowed down the pace heavily. Abby's story of rebelling against the Wolves and saving 2 Scar children was interesting on its own but when compared to Ellies story and the overall story of the game it felt like a needless diversion. It was obvious to me that the whole section is meant for the player to understand and love Abby like we do Ellie and Joel. Instead the diversion makes me care for Abby but doesn't change my opinion on her friends deaths except for Owen and Manny who are given characterization. Additionally, the use of identity politics was not really needed in the story. Lev and Yara being hunted due to Lev wanting to become a man felt stupid in a post apocalyptic setting. 60% of the worlds population is infected so having identity politics feels like Naughty Dog just wanted to send a message. Instead the story should've been reworked and paced differently. For example:

- Game starts with a mission involving Joel, Tommy, and Ellie (in an attempt to help Joel and Ellie reconcile)
- Mission ends and you take control of Abby somewhere in the middle of Seattle and Jackson
- You play as Abby for a few hours getting to know the party, having some people die, recruiting others but never letting the player know why Abby is traveling to Jackson (preferably tell the player she wants to meet Joel but give no information)
- You get to Jackson as Abby and the events of the normal game happen (Joel dies and Ellie and Tommy watch)
- All of Ellie's section happens up till the death of Mel and Owen (pre Jessie dying)
- Switch to Abby who is told that a tresspasser has been seen in a few different locations (all the places you kill her friends as Ellie)
- Abby finds the map next to Mel's body and the rest of the game plays the exact same

In my version of events you get a deep understanding of Abby's friends which will make the player hurt when you kill them as Ellie just as the death of Joel and Jessie hurt the players. The game also feels better paced as the climax of the game isn't interrupted randomly and a unrelated story takes its place.

Gameplay: Game is a huge step up from the first game and the various QOL features like customizable difficulty was amazing. The dualsense is used wonderfully in this game as well. The progression is heavily tied to exploring which is a core mechanic in the game and is done very well. Depending on the difficulty the game changes wildly. I played using hard everything except for resources cause the first 4 hours I played on hard was hell. Contantly having 1-2 bullets in total for a huge gunfight was annoying and I wanted to try all the things the game had to offer instead of hording materials for medkits and arrows.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered – Replay Review (PS5)
Score: 8/10

Returning to The Last of Us Part II on PS5 through the Remastered version was a deeply rewarding experience. Having played the original on PS4, I knew what to expect narratively—but the updated visuals, smoother framerate (60fps with HDR), and refined performance made a notable difference. It’s not a reinvention, but a respectful fine-tuning of an already impressive title. Exploring the post-pandemic world again felt more vivid, with added depth in both environmental design and emotional tone.

This time, I focused mainly on the main story, though I dabbled slightly with the new modes like Lost Levels and No Return. The foundation remains strong: a gripping narrative fueled by rich character arcs and layered emotional storytelling.

Narrative & Emotional Impact
What struck me most during this replay was how much more clearly I saw the moral complexity and duality between characters—especially Ellie and Abby. The first time I played, Ellie’s perspective dominated, leading to a linear and personal sense of justice. But now, equipped with hindsight and deeper knowledge of the lore, I approached the story more holistically. Abby’s perspective was no longer a jarring detour but a crucial contrast that adds weight and complexity to the overarching themes: revenge, grief, identity, and forgiveness.

I picked up on small character-driven details I had missed before—gestures, glances, and decisions that foreshadowed key turning points. These nuances made the emotional highs hit differently, sometimes even harder, especially in light of the character growth that unfolds. Understanding Abby’s loss—and how it mirrored Ellie’s—made the dual narrative far more impactful.

Character Dynamics
The dynamic between Ellie and Joel remains a powerful core, but this time I appreciated more of the subtleties in her relationships with Dina and Jesse. Likewise, Abby’s connections with Lev and Yara felt more genuine and tragic than I recalled.

I came away seeing Abby less as a villain and more as a product of the same cycle of trauma that consumed Ellie. Their mirrored journeys—starting in rage and ending in reflection—offer some of the most mature storytelling in gaming.

Gameplay & Combat
From a gameplay perspective, I approached encounters more strategically, blending stealth, improvisation, and aggressive tactics. I made a conscious effort to use every tool in my kit—not just relying on the bow or silenced pistol. Combat remains tense and fluid, with beautifully choreographed animations that match the chaos on screen.

The environmental design remains top-tier. Locations like the aquarium, hospital, and theater have distinct vibes and character significance. I also found myself searching more thoroughly for collectibles like trading cards and coins—something I didn’t prioritize before. The game's level design invites that kind of engagement, especially in this replay.

Presentation: Audio & Visuals
The music and sound design are extraordinary. Gustavo Santaolalla’s score continues to enhance both calm and chaos, evoking dread, nostalgia, and fleeting hope. Chapter transitions with custom songs feel like natural emotional breaks. I often turned the volume up just to soak in the atmosphere.

The voice acting and motion capture remain among the best in the industry. Naughty Dog has mastered conveying raw emotion through facial animations and subtle gestures. It feels cinematic without losing interactivity.

Final Thoughts
In hindsight, The Last of Us Part II remains a brutally effective story about cycles of violence and redemption. Its themes hit harder the second time around—not because of spectacle, but because of its emotional complexity. Yes, it can be overwhelming. Some scenes are excessively violent, pushing emotional discomfort, and not every moment is easy to digest. But that’s the point. This is a story about how far people will go for those they love, and what they’re willing to lose in the process.

As a sequel, it challenges the legacy of its predecessor while adding new dimensions to familiar characters. As a standalone story, it’s uncompromising and haunting.

Still, I dock it a point or two—not because of execution, but because of personal resonance. While Part I felt near-perfect in its focus and pacing, Part II stretches its ambition to emotionally exhausting territory. That’s not inherently bad, but it won’t resonate equally with every player.

All in all, it’s a masterpiece in many ways—but one I respect more than I love.

The Last of Us Part II es, sin duda, un portento técnico.

My thoughts on this game are nothing less than complicated. A story with a simple message to tell told in one of the most frustratingly performed executions I've ever seen.
