After 8 years I finally mustered the courage and time to play and complete this game. I had the time to play and read every game/book since, so I was able to get the full experience. It added an extra something, but fear not, it is far from a necessity to enjoy the game (even if I recommend at least taking a glance).
After a long adventure, the big question you wish an answer to then appears: Was it worth it?
Yes, it was, however it's not a perfect game and I'll break down several of its aspects to elaborate my point.
Starting with the narration and story, it had some high highs and a fair consistency in quality all around. Every dialogue had production value, but it also creates an issue where you will spend a lot of time watching a film or it pushes you to skipreading (skip the line when you read it to keep the pace, quite frequent while going through voice acted visual novel games or segments).
There was care put into having a lot of details to influence with choices, even if it lacked some of the more meaningful ones due to most being self contained bits, in terms of major choices I think the second game was more interesting with some really difficult positions to cut on and strong characters(Foltest, Letho, Iorveth, Roche, even Henselt and more).
Despite all that, it's still quite solid and entertaining to go along, with the exception of the final chapters falling off, likely due to the dev time coming short and needing to cut plans.
Gwent is a major part of the game even as an optional minigame, and while it is a bit goofy to play against some characters at awkward timings, you never say no to a round of gwent. Honestly it would have been funny to defeat Caranthir in Gwent instead.
I came from having played the multiplayer Gwent and the spinoff witcher game based on it, so I was a veteran to the rules and that meant it was overall very easy to me. This version was quite apparent as the prototype with more basic mechanics and terribly unbalanced exploits but that didn't prevent it from being addictive, really hoping to get a new gwent game one day.
Would've been nice to have a better way to track card locations and not have missable cards.
For the other kind of battles, compared to the previous entries, there was a clear technical improvement and better strategy to employ with the various bestiary. Balance was likely set on the easier scale for sure, considering even in Death March I was completely broken despite restricting signs to only Yrden (and the other ones didn't look weaker) and not using bombs too much.
The roll distance was a bit annoying at times, and likely because backstep dodge is what you should use for most situations, but my souls brain is hardwired sadly, it did make me realize its potential though. I liked the various weaknesses to exploit against enemies, even if not all was accurate and some enemies' biggest weaknesses weren't even marked (or worse, the opposite where it tells you Yrden is effective against the Ofieri Mage when he negates it, or Igni against Archespores when they just go away if on fire).
Target lock is quite abysmal, and I just didn't bother using it. I wished it would show when your items are damaged earlier and not wait to be half broken to tell you the stats are worsened.
Speaking of gear, the crafting is in a strange place with alchemy being the most essential and fairly easy to ignore the rest aside the witcher school gear.
There are a lot of ingredients needed and to find, which should tingle my fancy usually, but here it was so abundant everywhere, combined with shops that had literally everything related, the fun of crafting was reduced to hunting for specific monsters for that one ingredient.
In the end it was another upgrade system, and you didn't even get to craft things for your home in B&W, spending materials somewhere. Not exploited enough.
Although something was really benefited was the looting, this game is dangerous for looting addicts, and if you're not, you become one. The first thing you will think of in a new room after a cutscene is to rob the place. I will partly blame the witcher senses for that, it's too hard to resist when it's available.
There are probably too many spread out loot containers as well, so it becomes a grinding task for little reward, and too much time relying on witcher senses, both a blessing and a curse.
As I mentioned before however, extreme abundance and supermarket shops mean most of the looting is pointless and only accumulating barrel scraps even if you can't stop it at the end of the game. It's a bit funny and awkward that you can anger the guards from stealing, but 90% of the time it's just free to take.
This is probably the main aspect I wished higher difficulty would impact, reducing the abundance, making important crafts much harder to make.
Of course I can't mention the looting without exploration, the backbone of open world.
-Too long, read the rest on the Steam review.

Found the main quest way too long. Every mission in the first 20-30 hours is just "go here to this person who might know Ciri, they say they'll tell you if you help this with this thing they need, you do it, then they tell you they did see her, but don't know where she is now". Repeat that for 30 hours and you have the main quest.Bloody Baron is a solid quest, but it's not that amazing and world shattering.
Controls didn't feel great either
Good side quests for the most part too, but greatest game of all time? Not even close

Just finished the main story with some side quests here and there. But yeah, the game is absolutely stunning. The graphics is amazing, the architecture is magnificent, the vibe is on point. The gameplay mechanics are fun to learn and master but could be quite a lot better as at some point it really felt repetitive. Overall, a solid open world, dark fantasy experience in my opinion. Gotta go and play all those DLCs. Bye :)

Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

Was not for me. I actually preferred the first two games over this title. This did not need to be an open world game. The characters were forgettable, the world was beatufiul and memorable, the music pretty memorable, Gwent was fun. The most fun I had was bounty hunting, and before-hand preperation where you are learning weaknesses of enemies by studying them in your journal, paying attention to their bahaviours, and generally reading the room listening to what people say giving hints, and reading notes regarding the enemies. The idea that all of the monsters in the world are aliens that came here through a portal is exciting. I don't think very many people know that! It was called the Conjunction of the Spheres. Essentially they are all aliens. Neat!Updated 4 Weeks Ago

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—A game that I glanced over in the past but proved to live up to its hype completely. The Witcher 3, an TPP RPG made by CD Projekt Red has been my introduction to the Witcher franchise and all I can say is, following Geralt through his journey of finding Ciri, completing contracts, helping bystanders and meeting all kinds of folk has been an absolute treat to experience. Though I will say that while the story and the journey was amazing, the gameplay—was definitely not up to par with my expectations. But let me not get ahead of myself, I'll break down each component properly as I usually do:
Story (Spoiler free): With so many branching storylines, characters, side-story plots and developments—I can confidently say that this game is one of the more complexly written pieces of media I have consumed and I'm not complaining about it. Geralt being such a unique protagonist only elevated the entire ordeal. The other characters felt believable in context to the world of the Witcher 3—Ciri, Regis, Vesemir to name a few were some of my favorites. Now, this story isn't without its flaws (specifically the story kind of dragging on) but they are so minor that they don't degrade the experience.
Music: Genuinely amazing, I can't count the times that I just stopped and listened to the soundtrack while absorbing the scenery of Geralt's surroundings. Specifically the music played in Skellige—Some of the better game OSTs I've had the pleasure of listening to.
Gameplay: Gameplay was all over the place, one moment I'm on a contract to kill some ancient evil, the next I'm doing some boring-ass errands like interviewing the women(and dude) Dandelion banged just for the fucking twat to be useless(fuck you dandelion, still a funny dude though). Exploring was fun for the first 20 hours then it became stale, and I didn't care for the treasure hunts. The side quests are mostly fun but are degraded overall by the errands and fetch quests that you have to do.
Combat: I'm immensely disappointed with the combat system, CD Project Red created one of the most creative, immersive systems for combat that I've ever seen in a TPP RPG game just for it to be clouded with bugs and be repetitive. With all the options, systems and enemy variety included in the game, I had hoped that there would be more polish, less repetitvness and more care put into it. To top it off, it wasn't really challenging either, even on Hard difficulty, I conquered all of the Blood and Wine DLC (End game content) while being 15-20 levels underleveled (I didn't know this DLC was to be played after completing the base game🗿).
Graphics and Level design: While the graphics aren't the best, of course that makes sense, it's an older game. I have to say, the scenery of this game—might be the best I've seen in any game. I don't think I've ever opened a photomode inside of a game so many times as I have with this game, ever. The lighting, the saturation, the almost fantastical landscape, the overwhelming scale of the map combines to create some fine set pieces. Other than the scenery, everything else still holds up as well, character models, animals, monsters all look great.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Phenomenal story, flawed gameplay, amazing visuals and as always good luck on the path—8\10

Absolutely loved the game and its story. I always played on the highest difficulty — it was pretty tough at first, but I got used to it, and it ended up making me more engaged. A solid game with an engaging story and plenty of variety, although by the end, the side quests become tedious and you just want to finish the main storyline as soon as possible. At the beginning, it's interesting to experiment with builds and weapons, collecting everything and exploring to gather resources. But by the end, this loses its appeal because you have more resources than you know what to do with.I used mods for The Witcher—mostly visual enhancements. Character nude mods were a nice touch, as well as quality-of-life mods that reduce grinding, such as fast travel, auto-loot, and auto-oil. For its time, the game was outstanding. It's somewhat dated now, but I'm confident it will remain a top-tier title for a long time thanks to its rich universe and large fanbase. The graphics are great, the cutscenes are beautiful, the dialogue is varied, the voice acting is excellent, and the music is fantastic—though admittedly, it does get a bit repetitive toward the end.

i've tried soooo damn hard to like this game for many years; it hasn't worked well. the first time i tried playing this i stopped early on due to how the combat felt. combat made geralt feel like he was on ice skates slipping everywhere swinging a sword made of plastic through enemies made of water; everything felt wrong.
the second time i tried playing this i made it pretty far; about level 18ish? what stopped me there was getting hardstuck in a mission and having to restart the level losing multiple hours of progress.
the third time i tired playing this the progression felt really ill-planned. i had to grind out areas and enemies to even level up ONCE. how tf was i supposed to continue with the story when i could barely continue to level 5???
at least on my third attempt the story and side-quests really started to land for me, but unfortunately i haven't the patience nor time to deal with everything separating me from the meat of the game; the fantastic storytelling.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Review (100/100)The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt isn’t just a game—it’s a monumental achievement in storytelling, world-building, and player choice. CD Projekt Red’s magnum opus is a sprawling RPG that redefines what it means to create a living, breathing world. It’s an experience that grabs you by the heart, the mind, and the sword, delivering one of the most unforgettable adventures in gaming history.
The Pros:
A World That Breathes:
The Continent is an unparalleled achievement in open-world design. From the rolling fields of Velen to the majestic Skellige Isles and the bustling streets of Novigrad, every inch of the map feels alive. NPCs go about their lives, monsters lurk in the wild, and the world reacts to your actions in meaningful ways.
A Story for the Ages:
Geralt’s search for Ciri is deeply personal, yet it ties into a grand narrative of political intrigue and ancient prophecies. The writing is top-tier, filled with memorable characters, moral dilemmas, and plot twists that leave a lasting impact. The game never shies away from complex themes, weaving a narrative that’s both intimate and epic.
Masterful Side Quests:
Unlike many open-world games, The Witcher 3 makes side quests matter. These aren’t simple fetch tasks; they’re richly written stories with unique characters and surprising outcomes. The Bloody Baron questline alone is worth the price of admission, setting a new standard for what side content can achieve.
Incredible Combat and Customization:
The combat system is fluid and rewarding, allowing players to use a mix of swords, signs, bombs, and potions to adapt to any situation. The customization options—runes, armor upgrades, and skill trees—enable you to tailor Geralt to your playstyle, whether you prefer brute strength or magical prowess.
Gwent: A Game Within a Game
What started as a side activity turned into a phenomenon. Gwent is an addictive, strategic card game that provides hours of entertainment on its own. Hunting down cards and challenging NPCs adds yet another layer of depth to an already rich experience.
Stunning Visuals and Atmosphere:
The game’s visuals are breathtaking, with meticulously crafted environments, lifelike character models, and dynamic weather systems. Whether it’s a sunset over the marshes or a storm rolling across Skellige, every moment feels cinematic.
Phenomenal Voice Acting and Music:
The voice acting is pitch-perfect, from Geralt’s gravelly tones to the heartfelt performances of supporting characters. The soundtrack, a mix of haunting Slavic melodies and epic orchestral pieces, elevates every scene and battle, immersing players even further.
The Cons:
Let’s be honest—there aren’t any that detract enough to matter. Sure, the inventory system could be a bit clunky, and Roach has a tendency to get stuck in awkward places. But these are minor quibbles in a game that does so much so well.
Final Thoughts
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a masterpiece that stands as one of the greatest games ever made. It’s not just a high point for the RPG genre but for gaming as a whole. Few games offer this level of depth, emotion, and immersion. From its unforgettable characters to its stunning world, every moment spent in Geralt’s boots is a gift.
Final Verdict: 100/100. A flawless triumph in storytelling and design, setting the gold standard for open-world RPGs.

The game still holds up today. I installed a few QoL mods to make it feel a little less abrasive to play but overall an amazing game. Maybe its because I have a lot of other things going on in life right now but about half way through the game all I wanted to do was finish it. Instead of take my time with side quests. I don't have the energy to start the side quests immediately but maybe in the future I will complete those as well. I'm glad I finally got around to playing this game. Even though I was a little tired of playing this one and it was a little hard to get into I am excited for Ciri's story in the 4th game. Using her powers was some of the most fun I had in this game.Updated 2 Months Ago

Excellent main quest story. Battles are fun, but not overly complicated. Deathmarch mode adds needed difficulty. ChaosTricks adds interactivity and is well received by Chat. Still working on Heart of Stone and Blood & Wine expansions.
There are not many games that will live up to the storyline in this game. This is a level similar to that of KotOR, BG3.

A game that was far ahead of its time, but is nowadays beginning to show its age. I finished the game in 2020, but have started many new playthroughs after that which I've never finished. I've also never finished Blood & Wine, which is reason enough for me to play through the game again in the future. In 2020, I probably told everyone that The Witcher 3 is the best game ever, or at least, one of the best games ever. While I still hold it in very high regard, especially for its story, lore and characters, its gameplay was great at launch, now decent at best.

A lot of people praise this game. Although it is also strange that (on Xbox) only 18% of players found Ciri at all. Unfortunately, the game has not aged well. The story, the world would be interesting, the conversations between the characters are often funny. But the game is very drawn out. It moves very slowly, it is full of side missions even within the main story. They want to slow down your progress at all costs, and it is annoying. The fights are okay, but they are a bit difficult, the inventory and menu management are complicated.Meanwhile, he picks up all sorts of crap (from broken rakes to rusty horseshoe nails), but he can never craft anything, and the main story is terribly drawn out... And even then, he didn't manage to convey all the mechanics and details to the game (and it was in my native language), complete possibilities were left out (e.g. witcher house?!). Let's not even talk about the fact that healing was an unknown concept!!!
So the core was there, which could have made it a good game, I'm sorry about that, but today it really doesn't slide.

Death March made me use potions, oils and signs more, my first two plays on this game me just rolling around cutting everything but now on this difficulty it makes you use things.
