Great game! Finally played in mid 2025 on PS3. I own the PS4 collection but I have a fondness for PS3 games & most of the time the original games is better then crappy remasters. Remasters often change many things the original developers specifically choose like lighting, mood, colors, animations etc. Lost of weapons & upgrades with your left hand controlling plasmids. Levels are varied. The story is fun & interesting. The single complaint is the enemies aren’t varied enough but that’s nitpicking.

Cultissime.

Gameplay is not groundbreaking, but it was one of my favorites when I was younger. I like the mix of magic and mechanics and the aesthetic used to be so immersive to me. Potential candidate for me to want to 100%, but once the story has been played there's nothing special about it except that there are many possibilities to build around the gameplay.

A decent shooter with an amazing premise and aesthetic. Gunplay is quick, though i had issues with the strange momentum of the reticle. The game dragged on a bit near the end because it wanted to force a twist in.
I played on normal difficulty, but was a bit demoralized by how spongey all enemies felt, and that didn't change when i tried shifting to easy for a bit. The baseline enemy shouldn't take two clips being pumped into its torso to kill.
the map was easy to get lost in, but the in game map saved the day there.
the plasmids were hit or miss. Either borderline required, or not needed throughout the game.
while there were some genuinely frustrating parts. The worst was by far the escort mission near the end of the game, where your client decides the best thing to do is block your movement in any way it can,and run directly into any and all gunfire in the vicinity. Though it was still easy to complete it, it was infuriating and i absolutely used the flamethrower on them, which thankfully didn't cause me to restart the section as they took no damage. But it was morally uplifting.

I'd wish the game was shorted as the last two hours didn't feel needed at all. But whats there is a good baseline that sets up for what i'm told is a better game as a sequel.

BioShock seems to me as a first time player in 2025 to be a decent game, and I can see how it once was a giant in the industry. Unfortunately after so many years it has not held up that well in my opinion. Combat especially is mostly a chore, gunplay is very floaty and I have played many games that have done the special powers (plasmids) better since this game. I turned the difficulty to easy after the first two or three levels to just focus on experiencing the story.

Additionally the remastered version suffers from several UI and audio bugs, not sure if new or leftover from the original game. Several dialogue lines and recordings repeated themselves 3-4 times, and from the halfway point of the game the text "pick up the completed EMP bomb" got stuck, flashing every half a minute or minute on the screen even though it was already completed several levels ago.

I think the game also suffers from the audio logs storytelling design wise. At many points I would find myself listening to an audio log while moving forward in the game, to then have the log by interrupted by one of the NPCs jumping in when you reach a certain part of the level. This leads to some counterintuitive player behaviour where one has to stand still to listen to an audio log, or otherwise likely be interrupted.

The story is pretty good, the saving grace of the game. Likely the setting is supposed to be the most impressive part of the game, but the cultural osmosis had already long gotten me familiar with it. It does still tell the story competently, and it is quite interesting in and of itself. The big reveal halfway through the game does hit less hard than I think it is supposed, this because if you pay attention to the storytelling in the levels before hand it is pretty easy to figure out 2/3 of the reveal.

played on hard.

A lot online saying this game is "easy", and I suppose it is once you've got the crossbow. The game is pretty resource scarce and some of the early weapons (the pistol and machine gun) become pea shooters later on. I'd expend pretty much all my ammo on the big daddies then struggle through the rest. Really, from the point of getting the shotgun I should've just allocated everything to upgrading it and ammo for it. You can retrieve your bolts and enemies are one hit headshots. Electric shock them if they're moving around too much. I realised this in the last few levels and they were fairly straightforward - more than that the crossbow pretty much trivialises the gameplay. But prior I actually found this game pretty hard and frustrating, especially running out of ammo and health. I think I still enjoyed it, but it was extremely frustrating.

The hacking minigames were pretty fun, though even with the difficulty on them maxed they were easily done manually.

Encountered a game-breaking glitch early on but I always save very liberally (often every few mins) on manual save games, so this was no issue.

With this in mind, the game was fun and I intend to return to complete it on Survivor.

The best of the best, a must play.

++ Incredibly interesting and unique worldbuilding & lore.

+ Solid gameplay, especially for its time.
+ Interesting Characters (Sander Cohen comes to mind).
+ Great plot. (Especially the twist at the end).

~ Story is alright (Executed well, but the "moral of the story" so to say is a bit lacking).
~ Mediocre bossfights.
~ Endings are ok.
~ There's not enough incentive to choose the morally wrong options (saving or harvesting little sisters).

- The harder difficulties are not fun and badly implemented, the typical enemies become a bullet sponge and you're as frail as a stick.

If you call yourself a game, you should play this game. If you haven't, would you kindly play this game?

Developed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia, BioShock set a new benchmark for the quality of an FPS in the game industry. The game was released in 2007 for the Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 platforms and was the first instalment in the BioShock series, followed by BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite. Recreating ideas by 20th-century dystopian and utopian thinkers such as George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, the plot unfolds in the underwater city of Rapture, built by business magnate Andrew Ryan, and follows the protagonist, Jack.

The premise of the game is pretty unique because the story develops in an isolated, dystopian, retro-futuristic city called Rapture. The main character, Jack, survives a plane crash and finds an entry into the city. Soon, he discovers that the entire population of Rapture went insane after the genetic material known as ADAM was found. This substance grants supernatural powers to its users, but also, unfortunately, it drives them crazy, leading to the fall of Rapture. Attempting to escape this place, Jack has to fight with mutated and mechanical NPCs and engage with a few sane survivors.

The gameplay mechanics are exciting because the player can defeat foes in several ways, using weapons, utilizing plasmids that grant unique abilities such as shooting electricity bolts or using telekinesis, and by turning Rapture's defences against the enemies. Be aware of the Big Daddies - it's hard to overcome them. The story of the city is not told in the prologue, but it unfolds in parallel to the plot through audio tapes from former residents of Rapture. The whole setting, combined with the score, builds powerful tension throughout the entire story. Also, you shouldn't worry about the optimization of BioShock - it ran smoothly even on my low-end PC.

On a somewhat disappointing note, I noticed at the halfway point that the gameplay is quite monotonous; for example, the tasks often boil down to fetch or kill quests. It is also worth mentioning that enemies don't act very smart, are easily lured into traps, and frequently fail to use cover effectively, so from a certain point, it becomes a little annoying.

Overall, BioShock is an excellent FPS with a unique story set in a retro-futuristic future. I personally enjoyed almost all aspects of this game and spent around 10+ hours beating it. I would highly recommend it to all fans of gaming, especially those who want a deep atmosphere, a good story, and some violent combat.

- História: 8.5/10;

- Personagens: 6/10;

- Mecânicas e Gameplay: 7.5/10;

- Dificuldade: 10/10;

- Gráficos: 8/10;

- Trilha Sonora: 7/10;

I quit playing this game about half way through my first time, but everyone was saying I missed all the best parts. So I forced myself to play through again, this time all the way through. After finishing it I was thinking through the philosophical ramifications of the game and I realized that according to the principles laid out through the narrative, I actually won the game that first time when I chose to abandon my play through.

What do I mean by that?
I got to Fort Frolic, the level that is widely regarded as the best, and I hated it because the only way to progress was to assassinate these 4 people, simply because someone asked me to. Everybody else I had killed by this point in the game had attacked me first, so I felt justified in killing them. However I was expected to kill these 4 people just because someone else said "Would you kindly kill these people for me?" and that felt absurd. So rather than merely OBEY that character, I instead made the CHOICE to stop playing the game because I didn't want to kill those people. Turns out choice and obedience end up being the two major themes of the plot

I will admit that Bioshock is a very well made game, but it's one I really don't care for because of the dissonance between playing the game, the story, and the philosophical discussion that it's trying to have.

Would you kindly read my BioShock review?

This title is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling and immersive gameplay, set in the haunting underwater city of Rapture, the game blends first-person shooting with RPG elements and philosophical themes, particularly around objectivism and free will. It is even considered a spiritual sucessor to the System Shock 2 title released previously, the art deco aesthetics, eerie audio design, and compelling narrative, especially with some iconic twist, set it apart as one of the most influential games of its time.

Combat combines traditional weapons with Plasmids (genetic powers) similar to some mechanics coming from System Shock 2, offering variety and strategy and tactical feel, while some mechanics feel a bit dated today, the game's atmosphere, narrative depth, and moral choices still hold up remarkably well, it is definitely a must-play classic that helped redefine narrative in games, and remember...

this review is a bit awkward as i have no notes since i lets played this but quit uploading my videos after abou 4 episodes and quit recording at the last 40 minutes so i essentially have no log for my thoughts and im going off the dome, ill probably keep this brief. i like to rate things in a vacuum as just how i felt about them, if a game has shit gameplay but that doesnt hinder my experience of the game then it probably wont get docked marks and shit like that. i wasnt the biggest fan of the gunplay in bioshock, i set it to medium difficulty because it said that was for people who are experienced with fps games but i felt my experience was not at all translated into bioshock as its gunplay feels so different. i fell in love with the story and started rushing through it without properly grinding, crafting and getting ammo so i felt like i was really in the pits for the whole game trying to cling onto any bit of damage i could. this game took me a year of short infrequent sessions to beat due to the circumstances and i kinda regret that. this is one of the best stories ive ever experienced in a game rivaled only by portal 2, heavy rain and detroit become human, the plot twist is the greatest plot twist ever in my opinion and the dark and eery atmosphere compliment the game well,even if fighting things wasnt all that exciting or fun just walking through the place was, i love rapture so much. the mission before the final boss was sorta tedious as it involved escorting a little sister who kept stopping to drain the life out of dead smackheads attracting every nonce in the area to her whereabouts while you killed them off, this got especially annoying as you were literrally piloting a big daddy which is clunky enough as is without these little shits standing as humanly close as possible making it incredibly difficult to strafe and manouver enemies, it was actually half way through this section i switched to easy mode cuz i realised i was only enjoying the story and all the joy i got from the challenge only came in the parts of the game leading up to where im at. its the first time ive ever switched to easy in a agme but it propbably wont be the last now, if the challenge doesnt add anything why waste my time. overall bioshock is a beautiful game, with a beautiful message and bad gunplay with its main focus clearly being the incredible story, i will play the rest of this series and i will avoid rushing them, also i dont usually replay games but if i ever decide to i think this is one that would benefit a quicker paythrough on my end.

And it's still an amazing game: the gameplay is good, the writing and the story are stellar, and the visuals still hold up pretty well thanks to great art direction.

I won't go into the details: this game has a lot of praise as it is. Just go and play it: nowadays the whole Bioshock trilogy is like $5 on sale.

This game is great. No, really, it is actually great. But to view it as great in a modern era you either have to be not super picky, or have grown up playing games from this time and earlier, I'll explain in a bit. Firstly, its strongest point is the story, it is GREAT! The dark and tense atmosphere, the twists and how it kept me engaged was amazing. And if you're a story oriented player, then this is for you. Otherwise my criticisms for the game are its combat, it was a bit hard to get behind, and because I didn't enjoy it as much most the time, there were times I wanted to play to know what happens, but the effort to deal with the combat made me put it off sometimes. But it's not horrible, I just had to be in a mood for it. Otherwise I also liked the game's difficulty, don't think I could stay sane on the hardest difficulty though. Also the hacking was absolutely terrible past the halfway point of the game. But again I give this a positive review because it is amazing, and IMO there's only two parts that didn't age amazingly, the hacking and the combat.

Overall, it wasn't a bad game, however I didn't find it overly enjoyable to play.

After playing System Shock 2, I got excited to play this game. Now that I’ve beaten it, was it better than System Shock 2? I don’t know. It feels like a modern, more refined System Shock. It sure is a good game, it’s fun, it didn’t get super annoying at times, the final bossfight was way better that the one in SS2, everything is better. But I can’t help but feel I had a better time playing SS2. One thing I don’t like about this game is how hectic it feels. The enemies are all so noisy and jumpy, and the environments feel cluttered. Often times, I’m not looking at where I’m going, I’m staring at the fucking Crazy Taxi arrow at the top of the screen. I preferred it in SS2 where you were told where to go, and found that place yourself. Also this game goes by quickly, I beat it in less than 7 hours and you never stay in one area for too long. In the first hour and a half of this game, I had already killed 2 bosses and I was onto the third area, in comparison to SS2 where you stay on each deck for a decent amount of time and really get to know the Von Braun. So yeah, good game, SS2 better.

Mundo
O que dizer, né? Simplesmente épico. Toda a cidade é incrível e única.

A captivating universe and a punchy, memorable experience.
BioShock draws you in with an intriguing world that’s surprisingly easy to get into. The game is accessible, with a smooth learning curve, a varied arsenal, and a bunch of powers that are both creative and fun to use.

The combat system, however, misses the mark in some key areas. It’s not the game’s strongest aspect, gunfights can feel messy and lack polish but the rich atmosphere and storytelling more than make up for it. Despite its flaws, I strongly recommend BioShock, especially if you’re looking for a gripping, ten-hour experience that leaves a lasting impression.
