Updated 12 Hours Ago

Fantastic art direction with graphics that still look good today paired with an epic soundtrack and emotional story make this my favourite Halo. Gameplay is standard Halo just with the addition of armour abilities, some of which are interesting but don't add a whole lot to the experience. A fairly unique story in video games (almost like one long tactical retreat) with an inspired ending help the game to stick in your mind years after completion.Updated 6.5 Days Ago

Again, a game with flaws and a game I am biased towards. The story isn't the most narratively complex, and uses a lot of stereotypes, but the way it tells the story of a losing war I think is ingenious. It does what it does very well. There are so many great mechanics and narrative moments that, I feel, it's easy to forgive the worldbuilding inconsistencies. Yes, it was a departure from Halo's brighter, more anime-inspired style---but it was a farewell not just to Reach, but to Bungie from the franchise. It makes sense that it felt that way to me. And I don't even need to tell people who were there for the multiplayer how good that was.Updated 3.5 Weeks Ago

I was excited to get to this game knowing it's the Rogue One of this series (or I guess it would be the opposite).Gameplay - 8
Classic Halo gameplay with the addition of multiple suit upgrades, one of which being the GREAT addition of sprint. Outside of that I felt that this game was reasonably challenging, with good enemy variety and great gun variety. I did feel like this game wasn't as hard as the previous games and sometimes I felt like I was cruising through with some more repetitive mission structures.
Story - 8
I liked the story overall, and I felt each character had their moment, The story leading directly into 1 almost make me want to go play it again. The post ending mission is definitely a great moment in games, I still have memories of friends playing it and talking about it at school.
Characters - 8
This game had a good cast of Spartans and I liked that it gave more personality to the Spartans and even showing their faces (WOW!). it was very reminiscent of the clones from clone wars. Two of my favorites were Jorge and Emile with the badass etched helmet.
World - 7
Honestly this was the part that I wasn't as crazy on. Aside from New Atlantis Reach was mostly the same slightly desert like regions with some mountainous regions.
Music - 8
Same great Halo score
Overall - 7.8
I thought this was great prequel, it took all the best parts of the series and put them together in a ight little story that didn't over stay it's welcome and never tried to intrude with it's characters. It made you care for Noble team and it's members and it made the fit in the overall narrative without hurting what came before but helping expand it.

It is one of the best games I've ever played and will live on my heart for ever, the memories fo the campaign when i've first completed the game with my neighbour maybe a decade ago, the memories of playing with friends on a small town on the country side, the memories of playing the game with the people I will never forget.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

[Campaign] One of the best looking sci fi games. It getting more and more melancholic as it went on was fantastic. The ending especially. "Survive" it says... However, the level design in this is forgettable (with exceptions). Plus it's let down a bit by the space battle. It's long and by far worse than the usual gameplay. I don't subscribe to variety for it's own sake. If I compared it to Halo 3, it would be more consistent but the former having way higher highs. Fighting Elites are funner than Brutes after all. Plus no Flood!Updated 2.5 Months Ago

The main story is arguably the best in the game with the characters we get and the path that we know the game is going to go. The message of the game is great too and one thing that I think was overlooked was a great multiplayer experience. I know people had some issues with equipment and such but I felt in Reach it wasn't too bad. Having a sprint button honestly just felt natural. I would like current Halo to just go back to this level of complexity.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Excelente game.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

The first few missions were very enjoyable, the gunplay and the combat encounters are very well designed early in the campaign. Being a customizable spartan was very fun, and the mission/battle style of the missions fit the game extremely well. It's very cool being able to play in a squad through these missions, it added a lot to the experience. The gunplay and combat (at least early in the campaign) feel very smooth, and the squad style of the missions made the larger combat sequences much more enjoyable and manageable. I had a ton of fun using the air strike weapon (which I sadly only managed to find once), and particularly the Nightfall mission is great. The story is almost nonexistent at least until the end of the game, there is a story there but there was almost no effort put into storytelling and I had very little idea of what was going on, at least on a larger level. The New Alexandria missions were just boring plot-wise, quite a few of the missions were just boring in that way. The tie back to Halo 1 with Cortana and the Pillar of Autumn is really cool, the story was very interesting as a setup for Halo CE. There was a bit of setup in the story for the big scary indigenous creatures, but the big reveal and lack of them after that was very disappointing. But aside from that, the story is mediocre.
Again the gunplay feels very clean and great, it is the best in the series up until this game. The combat itself is good, again the first few missions were very fun. But unfortunately that quality doesn't persist, the later half of the game falls short due to the exact same issues that the mainline games have, which is overwhelming combat sequences and a good amount of repetition. The equipment is a lot more useful than it is in Halo 3 with the sprinting and jetpack, it did actually add the the experience. The space combat sequence was unexpected, but it was pretty fun, and the boarding sequence after it was all very enjoyable. But I'd say after that was the point where the game started to fall off. Again, the New Alexandria mission was just boring and that's when the combat sequences started to become overwhelming. I also started to have a few issues with the checkpoint system which seems pretty inconsistent. A lot of the later missions are just 'defend this point' or seem like I'm being sent to do chores for the entire mission.
And sadly it didn't ever get better, the final 2 missions are pretty bad. I didn't know it was possible to screw up a tank section, but the ghost tank sequence in The Package mission is some of the worst gameplay I have ever experienced. There were way too many explosive projectiles starting halfway through the game, but The Package is a complete joke. And the aerial support doesn't do anything during that sequence, all of the enemy fire in that sequence is directed straight onto the player, that section was just abysmal. The Package didn't end too well either with the long defense sequence, though I did appreciate the frequent checkpoints during it. And this is ignoring the story, because the story actually became pretty interesting at this point. The final mission, The Pillar of Autumn is fine, it isn't as bad as The Package but it still had most of the same issues mentioned previously. The long vehicle sequence is somewhat fun, but the dual hunter fight near the end was miserable, and the wave defense ending wasn't very fun.
The very end of the game was quite good, again the tie into Cortana, the Pillar of Autumn, Keyes, and the Halo was very well done. The final combat sequence of the game of just endless enemies was good, even without spoilers I was fully aware I was not expected to survive it, but I can always appreciate an ending like that.

Graphics: (4/5)it's the mcc version of the game so it's a little updated but still looks old. that said it still looks decent.
Sound (music, voice over): (4/5)
the voice over work was really good. each of the characters performances were very unique. the weapons had some decent punch and the sound placement in the environment was great.
Story: (5/5)
halo 1-3 had a really weak story that seem to be written on the fly. not much of a through line. too much of it relied on trans-media content i didnt read and had no desire to. this was a solid story from start to finish. real stakes and consequences for the invasion. all the characters gave it all to save those they could on reach.
Gameplay: (4/5)
i'm glad they finally gave you the ability to dash. too bad it's on a timer. didn't play with to many of the other abilities because running was worth more than a shield.
still no ability to ads for all weapons but the ones you could were my favorite.
Functionality (bugs): (4/5)
the game was super stable until the end of the game. the game crashed to launcher before the epilogue chapter. outside of that no weird glitches or issues.

Never really been much a Halo guy. Played through the campaign in high school, messed around in forge and sparsely played the multiplayer back then. Played through the campaign with two of my buddies recently. While it's emotional moments did not grip me as much as they did when I was a teenager, the story is still really solid. Objective: Survive gave me just as many goosebumps now as it did then. Fun shoot game. Highly recommend you play this with friends, I would probably never have played this alone. Do not recommend Legendary difficulty if you're not good at video games. Forge is still a ton of fun to mess around in. One of the games that inspired me to learn more about game creation back in the day. Though looking at it now, it really is one of the symbols of a bygone era.Updated 9.5 Months Ago

Pros:+ Great soundtrack
+ Still looks incredible despite being a 14 year old game
+ Gameplay is probably the best in the series next to Halo 3
+ Hot take: the story was really good but I can’t lie & say it’s not slightly overrated compared to the main trilogy
Cons:
- Runtime is a bit short, not a ton of variety in the campaign gameplay-wise
- PC port isn’t the best, performance is solid but audio glitches were very frequent with a couple of hard crashes & 1 full restart of my PC

Halo reach held up great over time. I had never played it before, so I decided to play all of the Halo’s and I started with Reach. Through a fresh set of eyes, the game was quick to beat and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Great assortment of weapons, enemies, and vehicles. Not many abilities, but the abilities that were there were fun. One of the best endings of any game I’ve played, even though it felt somewhat rushed.Updated 1 Year Ago

Haven't played the previous halo game so I don't understand the connection of the story. The game was very enjoyable with a few annoying moments(covenant vehicle that shoots blue bombs that destroy you). Large variety of weapons. Night vision is broken because it highlights enemies and you can use it even at day. Bombs are op in this game, you die instantly and towards the end everything is throwing bombs at you and shooting blue bombs of death. Also, one retarded detail in the combat system: instead of picking up ammo for the gun you carry, you gotta SWITCH the gun you have for the same gun with different ammo amount. On the other hand, the ending was incredible. Truly one of the legendary video game endings. To emphasize, the ending gave the game's rating a boost.I give an 8/10, very good.Updated 1 Year Ago
