The Last of Us: Part II – Uma aula de se fazer games impactantes!

The Last of Us Part II não é só uma evolução do primeiro jogo.

Poucos jogos viram referência em como se fazer algo como virou The Last of Us!

The Last of Us: Part II.

The Last of Us Part II é o melhor que a geração pôde apresentar durante sua vida. The Last of Us: Part II é um dos melhores games já feitos!

No other game with such seamless blending of stealth and action. It's game of cat and mouse where the roles change constantly in a single encounter. On higher difficulties you really feel the franticness, how kinetic it is, how kills flow together, etc. The levels so open and sprawling, with verticality and tons of branching paths. The enemy AI is incredible. It's by far the best seen in a stealth game really. They flank and corner you and the game is at its most fun when you are scrambling and making split second decisions to survive. AI lets you re-locate without stopping the action. Yet, get put in checkmate scenarios often. You could play one encounter 100 times and get a different result each time. The commitment to this brand of stealth is interesting. It de-emphasizes or simply doesn't have the more passive elements of a stealth game (being able to hide bodies, etc). It completely pushes the player to a more aggressive playstyle. On Grounded, you will be forced to use every mechanic and resource you find. It's truly elegant. It's I do have criticism with Abby's section. While Ellie's portion was almost flawless (the Downtown Seattle section isn't great on replays), the encounter design in Abby's section felt like it needed more enemy variety to differentiate itself. The dodge mechanic feels overpowered as well. There is this one thing that really bothers me about it though. Being unable to skip walking sections/flashbacks. It makes replays a pain in the ass. However, I know the game has chapter select but I wish skipping it was integrated into the campaign. Especially since it doesn't let you do the permadeath option from chapter select.

Regarding the story, it's definitely more ambitious, creative, impactful than the first. I felt every emotion imaginable playing through this game. The worst thing I can say is lengthy flashback, and Abby day 1 kills pace. It does present the story in a more effective way than the first game. For example, the story is an addiction narrative (described by one of the writers), so Ellie's gameplay being exciting serves ultimate purpose. Killing is emotional for her. Compared to Abby/Joel who are pragmatic. Also, using perspective. Fighting Ellie as Abby and vice versa is an insane use of player control giving you the taste of what Ellie's enemies felt. It creates dissonance between player/character similar to Shadow of the Colossus. This specific design created criticism that the player should get to decide for Ellie at the final fight of the game and that to me is misguided. The game focused so hard on Ellie's agency. This whole game is happening because someone else decided something for her. Is it not taking Ellie's agency away by letting you decide? As for the epilogue, It very intentionally tries to exhaust you. It makes the ending hit harder by trying to drain you emotionally. It definitely worked on me. Iterative from Uncharted 4, it aligns you with Ellie's selfish desires through gameplay. Combat being exhilarating is the point and Ellie thinks so too. Then it goes further, as I said, dissonance. In Abby's section, it does the opposite. Dissonance then to assonance. From hate to understanding.

Revenge is only the plot. It's about obsession (towards Joel and Abby) caused by grief and "addiction" caused by not having healthy coping mechanisms. Her obsession (and PTSD) in this case enabling her addiction. It's even reflected through gameplay. The combat feels good right? The game lets you get absorbed in the violence, ignoring everything else right until you notice that the quest is ruining Ellie's life. Her PTSD, which desensitizes her to allow for killing (similarly, the players) but also destroys her at the same time. Once you make these realizations, you will still find the combat fun and continue to enjoy it like Ellie does but it introduces an uncomfortable dissonance between you and the character you're controlling. A brilliant way to use the medium. The actions she takes start making sense as well if you view her as someone with an addiction. The ending especially. Is killing Abby a final swig of vengeance or is it digging yourself further into the rabbit-hole? Many people with these afflictions do know they're causing damage to not just themselves but others around them. But it's not like it's easy to stop even if you know that. Ellie attempts to at the end of day 3 and again at the farm (she sounds like someone going through withdrawals). You could say it's just symptoms of PTSD but these things are double entendres. If you compare it to staying sober, it fits and makes it much more real and depressing. The final decision against Abby, it starts with identifying the root cause of her issues, which is the obsession and grief. It's a difficult recovery process to heal but a necessary one needed to move on from both Abby and Joel. Ellie can start anew. It's hopeful. It's an interesting evolution from the theme of obsession explored in Uncharted 4.

I finished #TheLastOfUs Part II on Normal.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great, maybe an amazing game. I enjoyed the combat much more this game now that I've gotten better at it.

The way Naughty Dog tells a story is phenomenal, but man do I really dislike Ellie's character and her decisions.

Honestly this is close to perfect, there was fantastic storytelling, character development, and writing. The combat reminded me of the freedom provided in MGSV. Then between that combat, the exploration and puzzle solving was thoroughly engaging, unlocking some of the safes reminded me of solving puzzle in the RPD Police Station in RE2. I'm in awe of the scope of the game, and the details throughout, and still can't believe it runs on a PS4.

Great game. Like when making the first one, they really tried to make the best game ever.

Pros
- Story continues to be top notch
- Relatable characters
- Gorgeous. Best water in video games
- Attention to detail. Like, we didn't need this much
- Accessibility options are amazing, like the discrete difficulty sliders, auto pick up, sonar, wow!

Cons
- I just want more story why is every chapter so long due to fights
- Everything is quite repetitive: the stealth, the combat, and the scavenging
- Spoilers about future chapters, all the time... Still not sure this is the best way to present the story
- Ending was... Not the best ever

Brutal and Cruel Sequel

Personally, I couldn't really foresee anything and I felt all the more shocked by pretty much everything that happened in this game. I think this part has a fantastic story too and the game really played with my expectations. However, the new characters didn't inspire me as much as in the previous one and I couldn't really empathize with them, unlike with Ellie (main character). Overall, a very deep story with excellent graphics and sound design and for everyone who has played the first part, I can recommend this game unconditionally.

After watching that dumpster fire of a season, decided to replay this. I got this game at launch and recognized it for a well made game but didn’t personally like it. Giving this game a second try without the launch reception and negativity changed my outlook quite a bit.

+ I liked most of Ellie levels since I prefer stealth and her as a character
+ Jesse and Dina were good (not as strong as TLOU side characters)
+ Overall story is good. I understand what they were going for and appreciate it more now. It’s quite tragic.
+ Abby is a likable and strong character.
+ Rat king, sky bridge, island battle, are some of the best levels

- all of Abby’s side characters were very bland. Relationship between the characters aren’t on the same level as the other side
- I didn’t like the rest of Abby’s levels like the construction area or the gas station. These felt very brute force and affected the pace.
- the entire last act after Ellie goes to Santa Barbara was unnecessary
- Tommy’s character in the farm scene
- Music was good but weaker compared to predecessor

The good parts are really strong. TLOU will be one of my favorite games of all time and this doesn’t quite live up to that level but is still a solid follow up.

One of the best games (accessible also) I’ve ever played. It was so good I didn’t want to play any other game for a month.

It is for those who want to play a good stealth, survivor game with really deep story.

Pros:
Excellent graphics, sound and music, voice acting, narrative, game play.
Cons:
none

The biggest surprise was the accessibility options. I was planning to buy it with a price drop but half a month before the launch I heart that there accessibility options. I am visually impaired individual so I wanted to experience a game in a more accessible way. So I’ve pre-ordered the Special Edition so as to show the developers how important is that for me.
I begun playing the game on 19 of June and I’ve stopped playing on 15 of August. I used the TTS options, the one that makes a sound for enemies and items if you enable it and the high-contrast mode (enemies red – allies blue).

Outcome:
It is the 2nd game in witch I have a platinum trophy, and I’ve played a lot of games.
It was the first time I was playing with my back in the chair. Usually I play with my face 3 inches away from the screen.
I could read for the first time all the documents (thanks to TTS).
I have died less times than in other games but every time I was losing I was feeling safe.

Many thanks to the developers I wish more games were so accessible.

Finally, a lot of people criticize the game of hidden agendas and other things. I have to say that this is simply a game. If someone wants to disagree with the creators he/she can do that through out civilized ways.

Very visceral and mechanically satisfying stealth gameplay with plenty of options. Has more open-ended gameplay than a lot of similar linear cinematic games. However, there is still too much linearity, cut scenes, QTEs, taking control from the player, overlong dialogue and walking-sim sections for my personal tastes.

So many meticulously designed set-piece dioramas of apocalyptic violence. Plenty of memorable sequences with an unbelievable amount of highly detailed environmental art (you can understand why there are like 6 assistance art studios in the credits). They nailed the look and feel of Seattle and all of its landmarks. One of the most graphically impressive games of all time.

I don't play games for the story, but it kept my interest with excellent voice acting (except Mel), mostly good pacing and plenty of harrowing and disturbing moments. Some plot motivations are far-fetched and the plot is overlong with multiple climaxes and several fruitless tangents and tedious flashbacks. I don't think this is a story that really needed to be told after the first game, as it didn't have enough to say to last the 20+ hour length, but it worked.

I put this off for years. Having had the game spoiled in 2020 and then watching bits and pieces of a playthrough on Twitch, I didn't see much point in experiencing it myself, especially considering I wasn't a huge fan of the first game.

Well, things change and after finally finishing the original game in 2023, my wife and I jumped into The Last of Us Part II's opening chapters. After "the scene" we put it down for two more years. Now with the intent of staying ahead of the HBO adaptation, we finally finished what we started.

And yeah...this is an experience unlike any other in video gaming. It's really no surprise that the backlash to the story decisions here were so visceral. People have the tendency in the modern age to create preconceived notions of what something will be long before it's released. If nothing else, The Last of Us Part II could not be accurately predicted, and, honestly, I now believe it is all the better for it. This is a very different story from the first game while simultaneously telling a continuous narrative where everything that happened in the first one matters here. Are there parts of the narrative that I have issues with? Yes, but most of them boil down to pacing. The actual events of the game are brutal and hard to engage with at times. You should not want to inflict the violence the multiple playable characters here inflict on their adversaries and that is the sauce that makes this a special gameplay experience.

When it comes to the more traditional gameplay aspects though, Part II doesn't rock the boat too much. In short, this is more of a refinement than a rework. Some praise the addition of being able to go prone, but I personally find that to be the least of the game's improvements. Gunplay and ability trees are far improved and every weapon, craftable item, and tool has its place. The encounters and environments they take place in are expertly assembled and many of them are incredibly memorable. Add to this a few more open areas for exploration and the series' signature environmental storytelling and you have a game that is incredibly fun to play despite the harrowing events of its story.

Visuals are still stunning five years after release (I played the PS4 version on PS5). Most impressive, though, are the animations. I don't know how these artists were able to stomach years of work on the different ways a person or infected could be beaten, cut, or blown apart, but their all too often thankless work is appreciated by this player.

Sound and music is top tier here. Much like with the animations team, I don't know how the team captured the disturbing sounds of a person being strangled, the iconic noises of the various types of infected, or the realistic sounding firearms, but their work makes the game so much more immersive. The voice cast also turns in some iconic performances. These games will likely be viewed like The Godfather films are in how their stunning casts turn in career-defining portrayals.

The fact of the matter is that there just aren't many games that reach The Last of Us Part II's level of production quality or caliber of storytelling. It's on a very short list (with Red Dead Redemption 2) of games that effectively combine gameplay and storytelling without breaking immersion. Not every game should be like Naughty Dog's latest masterwork, but I'm happy they continue to push the industry with games like it.

Final Score: 9.5/10

It's obvious and acceptable that Joel got killed but wtf think of something more creative than adding a daughter to a character you didn't care about during the time of the original game to add some kind of revenge plot.

If you play around with her for 10-15 hours "so you understand her", make something interesting out of her story line.

After the already too long game comes the epilogue, which drags everything out just to tell you "revenge is not good".

Will be there for Part 3, but please Neil should be back down to earth.

A mind-blowing experience, slightly hampered by pacing. The best narrative in gaming, albeit a bit long and repetitive.

The Last of Us 2 is a stunning and dark game. The emotional stress placed on the player cannot be understated and this carries throughout the game. At times I was so invested in the characters and their believable acting I forgot it was a game and when thrown back into gameplay after a heart pounding cutscene I felt the adrenaline and rush of taking out enemies. The story sets out a raw and unforgiving world where every step or corner could be the last and this translates into gameplay perfectly with hit and run style tactics, traps and stealth. Enemies won’t know what hit them and when they do discover downed teammates they react realistically. They even go as far as having names for every enemy so you feel the weight of your actions.
I won’t go into story as this is something that needs to be experienced blind but the guys at Naughty Dog did an incredible job.

This game fumbles every possible W this game could have had. I am not mad Joel died, I honestly expected him to die in this game, but to be offed in the first few hours, and by some rando who I could not care less about and then having to play as that character? nah that sucks. If I had gotten to know Abby more in the game and learned about the reasoning behind her anger, I would have been less horrified at how bad the 'golf club' scene was, but that did not happen. sure, as the game progresses, I learn, but frankly I don't care at that point. besides that, the game made Ellie extremely annoying in a good chunk of the game, and Abby's side of the cast is forgettable. I also did not appreciate the sex scene with Abby and whatever that one guy's name was. And probably my BIGGEST gripe I have with this game was the ending. at this point in the game Ellie has ruined every relationship she had with anyone she cared about, all for revenge. and what happens when she has a chance to get that revenge, she ruined her life for? she decides actually revenge is bad and lets her go. some say the message is just revenge is bad, Joel would not want her to be consumed by her anger, but frankly I do not care. it made all of her decisions feel worthless, because they were. also not to mention Abby ate Ellies fingers off in their last encounter, but let's just forgive now I decided actually. gameplay was pretty fine though, would say just the gameplay is about a 7/10. this game feels like blue balls the experience.

another perfection of a game, extremely good story, combat felt dragged out a bit too much but other than that beautiful,
probably best graphics in a video game until Death stranding 2 comes out.

Before I start, I will point out a few things – First, the lead Writer/Director, who bullied Amy Hennig out of Naughty Dog so he could take her job, personally contacted all publications that gave this game an 8 out of 10 or below, asking what about his genius they did not appreciate.. yes, this really happened. And he publicly attacked anyone on Twitter who thought it was hyperbole to compare this game to Schindler's List.. Yes, this also really happened. So I might be slightly skewed by the fact that the lead Writer/Director of this game is an absolute douche in real life, on par with Phil Fish.
Now, with that out of the way, the game certainly has strengths and weaknesses, and while I have a lot to say on both fronts, I will acknowledge that the strengths are very, very strong. Previously I thought of Rise/Shadow of the Tomb Raider games as being the gold standard of realistic and beautiful close-up landscapes (like in regard to rock shapes formations & trees/grass/hills/dirt layout), but this game outdoes them. The bleaker areas are indeed bleak, and apart from the books being strewn around (as they'd be worth gold in a world like this, or how cars are rusted through yet metal weapons are clean), the post-apocalypse design is pretty great, apart from one thing in the flashbacks where we see some damage being way too high, like roads having collapsed in on themselves despite the infection only having started like 10 years earlier, or how there are FULL GROWN trees in the middle of broken pavement, where used to be a sidewalk or road, despite that the time since the infection started wasn't nearly enough time for the trees to grow so large. The music and sound design are really solid, and the voice acting is also very good. There are some moments of dialogue in the cutscenes that are genuinely well-written, as well as some moments of conversation during exploration. And lastly, I like how this game has a calmer tone while you are not in danger, allowing you to explore the scenery and locales, with no risk of someone trying to kill you, which is something the first game did a bit but this game really steps up, and I loved it. Now, that is where the praise ends, and most of the problem relates to the storytelling, which is honestly the worst I've seen, in a story-driven game, since Final Fantasy XIII. For one thing, this game is morally two-faced – it screams “Revenge Killing is Wrong!! You are a horrible person for seeking it!!” while you play as Ellie, whom the game desperately tries to make you despise, while screaming “YES!! YES!! KILL HIM!! GET YOUR REVENGE!!!!” when playing Abby, whom the game desperately tries to make you love. The trouble is, Abby is always either cranky or pissed off, frequently even to those that are helping her, making her sound like a 13 year old who looks in her 30's. The long and short is that Abby is frequently unlikable despite the game constantly telling us that she's wonderful, and she's supposed to be the GOOD one!! With that, Ellie is still likable, but certainly has more of an unnecessary temperament, frequently getting madder than a situation calls for. Honestly, the only characters I genuinely enjoyed were Tommy, Jessie, and maybe Owen (as well as Joel in the flashbacks), but none are central roles. As for the storytelling, the plot feels out of order, and shows us the big climaxes WAY before making us have to go through very, very long slogs to get to those very moments, so it's basically like watching the end of a movie and then watching all of the less-interesting yet vital build-up afterwards, which sucks because I might have actually been compelled by Abby's story otherwise – The game does eventually humanize Abby, but it takes a long, long time to get there, and the fact that you only know her as the killer of someone you (the audience member) cared deeply for, only makes this miscalculation worse. And speaking of that, the ending is truly stupid, with Ellie pulling a complete moral 180, killing a hundred times more people than Jason Vorhees yet suddenly deciding that killing is wrong...in the ONE moment where it's personal.. Oh, and each catastrophic event comes out of absolutely nowhere, making this game WAY overly reliant on shock value in regard to the plot, and it's SO uncompromising that you just end up feeling numb to these quick 'gotcha!' moments after a while. Now, there are some more tense ones that work, like characters in conversation suddenly seeing flashlights in their home, but >70% of the cutscenes are unnecessary and add nothing for all the time they take up (such as the dull as hell setup for laughable 'biggot sandwitches', although we're supposed to take that seriously). This game is just misery-porn, the gaming equivalent to looking into your friend's or family member's future and finding out that they become a miserable failure in life. The gameplay is pretty good, the locations look amazing, the tone is thick and the story...has its moments

Favorito absoluto.

A game that I believe will stand the test of time. If you haven't played this game yet, you should absolutely do so. But I also don't think I'll ever finish it again. While the writing of the characters was phenomenal, the game says less than it thinks it does, so when I got to the end credits with that empty feeling, a part of me thought the game hadn't earned it.
It's one of the best looking games ever made, but it was frequently bottlenecked by my 2013 standard PS4, in a way that Rdr2 wasn't.

My biggest critique is the music. It never hits the highs of the soundtrack of the first game, and for me at least, music can make or break an emotional moment.
I'm fairly confident anyone who rates it 1/10 never actually played/beat it.

🩸⚔️ "The Last of Us Part II: A Vingança é uma Faca sem Empunhadura (e Você Vai Sangrar)

A história?

A jogabilidade?
