This is not a good Max Payne game. The story is completely different tonally and stylistically from the rest of the series. It also shits all over Max Payne 2's ending by undoing Max's development and sweeping Mona under the rug like she wasn't here in the first place. The gameplay is decent at least, but again, it doesn't feel like a Max Payne game. It just plays like your standard 3rd-person shooter from the 7th gen, just with bullet time and a health bar. I understand why people might like this game on its own, but people who say it's the best Max Payne game need to get their head examined.

TLDR: Presentation is all it has, strip away the set pieces (all of which are scripted and impossible to fail) and stylized cutscenes and watch the game become a bland shooter.

All that is required of you is to clear rooms and watch cutscenes. It's not even hard.

Also, cutscenes where nothing is accomplished, it's like the game itself is jingling keys in front of me. Am I supposed to give a shit about this rich chick or her family? They're all annoying and Max hates them too, so what am I blasting these dudes for? Duty?

Max grumbles like an insufferable old man with almost none of the noir charm to make up for it. His poetry is gone, and in its place we got the driest and most predictable sarcasm ever written. Max doesn't give a shit either! He outright says he hates everything he's doing, then spends the rest of the mission whining.

This game is awful for it's pacing, and mid at best.

Kane and Lynch did the gritty crime drama way better, Max Payne 3 feels like Reddit wrote a retired detective.

Max Payne 3 was a really good time. Completed it in around 3 days and just under 8 hours of gameplay to complete the main story on normal I think it did what it was aiming to do. Although it is a little awkward and janky at certain points just due to its age, the overall feel of the game with movement, shooting, and bullet-time all felt really solid. The mechanics of bullet time are always entertaining and especially the diving bullet time always felt really good to pull off and get several kills with. The different mission settings we see throughout the 14 chapters vary enough to keep each mission fresh but some of my favorites were the nightclub, stadium, police station, and the airport. The story was simple but very fun with a decent twist towards the end regarding who the villains truly were. Max's narration as one of the main methods of story telling was interesting but usually pretty funny or just plain cool. Most of the characters are pretty one note but in this type of game it worked fine with how much the gameplay makes up for the decent but very standard story. Overall I think this was a really enjoyable experience, some sections seemed a little unfair or awkward but on normal difficulty I never got stuck anywhere. The ending felt very justified but sad that this is very Max's story ends. The collectables were just eh, the clues gave some interesting exposition but the golden guns didn't really matter besides just looking cool when you completed them. On sale this game is definitely worth it and I am glad I tried it out!

Great game with some issues.

I like Max Payne 3. It has an excellent Single Player Campaign and story, solid gunplay and all the stuff that made the previous two games great.

In Max Payne 3, Max is a hired gun/security for a rich family that he needs to protect. After an assault of unknown paramilitaries, all goes downhill from there. Max needs to save the kidnapped members of the family, while uncovering a whole, grim operation that is behind the kidnappings. You blast your way through Brazil, wiping out half of the Brazilian Population, true Michael Bay style. Betrayal and plot twists are the second nature of this game and every time Max figured it out, the opposite appeared to be true.

Max Payne 3 still has story comic panels that made the first games great. It is presented in the same L.A. Noire style, although now in full 3D graphics.

Talking about graphics, this game looks amazing. The details are stunning, and the facial animations and emotions are a work of art. Sure, there is some clipping here and there, but overall, it is fantastic. The only problem is that this game does not seem to work very well with large wide monitors. Cutscenes and the menus are all cropped inside a little rectangular box in the center of my screen, leaving 70 percent in black borders. Not only am I watching the story unfold in a tiny stamp that is my screen, but it also locks the mouse there, making me unable to check my grinds in the menu for example, because my mouse “cannot reach”.

The sound is also amazing. The gunfire, explosions, voice overs, they are all perfect. There are not many games that I played that feature this quality of sound and music. Excellent job.

There are some issues with Max Payne 3 though. Like I mentioned, the cropped menus and cutscenes are kind of a bummer. Then you have the glitch that you are stuck in place and need to reload the checkpoint. Lastly, a special note must be made about the handling of Two-handed weapons. You pick up an assault rifle and the game go in a cutscene. Now you are holding a pistol. You want to switch back to the rifle, but the game registers that you are still holding it, so when selected, you drop the damn thing and need to pick it up again. This cost me many bullets in the face. Maybe it is just my donkey @ss, but I have not found a way to switch properly.

Then you have the slow-motion events in which you need to take out enemies before they kill an NPC or make you fail the mission. You shoot them all in the head and still fail the mission. Turns out, you must move or else the NPC gets killed by invisible enemies. Just great…

Another thing that needs to be addressed, is the added “haze” effect. In the story cutscenes, while popping pills or when you are getting close to your destination, a red and blue haze always slams the screen and your vision. Although this is part of the story telling charm, I figure this can be a serious hazard for people with Epilepsy.

Finally, a last note must be made about the bad compatibility with the Steam version. At first, the game refuses to launch. It turns out you MUST use the Rockstar Launcher, or else it won’t work. Even then, the game does not start. Turns out that you need to find the executable in the game folder and start it as administrator in order to launch.

The multiplayer felt a bit blunt, but that is mainly because I suck at it. I was just done after being blasted away five times in a row by a sawed-off shotgun in the face. The fact that this game is still played in Multiplayer, is impressive, however.

The best part of this game is by far the story. It is interesting, addictive and always makes me wonder what would happen next. The constant self-reflection of Max, being a wreck and his cynical look at the world felt very powerful throughout the game.

I would definitely recommend Max Payne 3.

Played this game from start to end 3 times now since summer. Everytime i play it i like it more and i get better at it. Dont like that load times are so long but all the same the action just hits more everytime. I even started doing the new york minute challenge just to get more life outta this game. Besides the load times my only real issue with the game is the sound design being weak in my opinion in relation to the guns. An occasional audio or visual glitch but they're very rare and few and far between

Вповільнення часу комфортне, хіба дещо дратує, коли вдаряєшся головою об стіну в коридорі. Стрільба комфортна, а ідея зі стопмоушином для касцен насправді непогана (порівнюючи зі статичними коміксами). Макс спілкується, як Макс, але йому не вистачає більшої глибини, яку давали дружина чи Мона в перших двох частинах.

Max Payne 3 отошел от оригинальных игр. Все кажется совсем другим, но при этом остается таким замечательным.

Плюсы:
+ интересно было увидеть Макса в совершенно новой обстановке, например в Бразилии, а многие уровни действительно хорошо проработаны;
+ топовая оптимизация, еще когда проходил на старом ПК с 750TI, всё тянуло на «ура»
+ стрельба, которая позже перекочевала в этом же виде в GTA V;
+ цена, очень дешево (было и сейчас), тем более за такую то игру;
+ удобное меню игры без ненужных функций, не то что сейчас);
+ в игре очень много мелких и классных деталей;
+ саундтрек от HEALTH также был просто великолепен, хотя и немного не подходит для игры от Max Payne;
+ хорошая графика, я был поражен тем, как много усилий было вложено в дизайн окружающей среды, особенно на уровне «Трущобы».

Минусы:
- мало разного вида пушек;
- сюжет был не так хорош, как в старых играх, а конечный поворот сюжета, на мой взгляд, был очень предсказуем;
- в игре довольно много непропускаемых сцен, которые будут раздражать при последующих перепрохождениях (как это было несколько дней назад, когда я решил пройти заново игру детства);
- некоторые текстуры имеют низкое разрешение, а анимация разговоров иногда выглядит странно, но в целом игра выглядит очень хорошо для того времени;
- сюжет немного затянут, под конец уже устаешь вырезать все эти толпы врагов, которых ближе к концу игра засылает все больше и больше.

В целом, Max Payne 3 - это, пожалуй, один из лучших шутеров от третьего лица, и хотя вам стоит поиграть в оригиналы, чтобы понять характер Макса, в нее можно играть и самостоятельно, без предварительного ознакомления с сюжетом.

Если вы еще не играли в эту игру или давно не играли, она стоит того, чтобы в нее поиграть или переиграть. 8/10

The beginning had to many cutscenes interupting the gameplay but I really enjoyed the game. Not as good as the original 2 but still a good game.

shooting was good but the mouse smoothing was annoying at times but overall it was fine.

Story was intresting more intresting then I remember which is good. Later half in the game I got more intrested in finding gold guns.

This game gets a lot of hate (don't get me wrong, it's not flawless) but it's hated for the wrong reasons.

Story: it is a little weak and that's most peoples' main complaint, but I think it serves just fine as the end to Max's character arc. The theme of the story, as I saw it, was less about Max's suffering but more his attempts to prevent the same kind of suffering happening to other people (albeit, in vain).

Gameplay: there's a lot to love here, and not much no hate. The gunplay is amazing. I found myself using the Shootdodge mode way more than the actual bullet-time, but it's really satisfying getting headshots while you're jumping down a flight of stairs, etc. There are a couple difficulty spikes when fighting the heavily armored guys that are unfair on the higher difficulties, those fights come down to pure luck. I'm sure those sections play fine on normal difficulty, though. One last minor complaint, I wish the game let you carry more weapons like in the older games. Not a big issue since you likely won't run out of ammo for all your weapons in a level, but I wish it had the standard shooter inventory system where you have like 9 categories of weapons, instead of only being able to hold three weapons max. Personal preference, not really anything objective.

Graphically: Still holds up. some of the textures are low res, and talking animations look weird sometimes, but overall it still looks very good for the time. I was kind of blown away by how much effort was put into environmental design, especially during the Slums level.

User Experience: there are quite a few un-skippable cutscenes which will make subsequent replays annoying, especially if you've played it recently. However as far as I recall, none of them occur before a difficult section of the game where death is probable, so you won't have to watch them again if you die. Still think un-skippable cutscenes are horrible, but it's not as offensive here if you haven't played it in years.

Soundtrack: I've been a fan of HEALTH for several years, but I had no idea they did the soundtrack to this game. it's great. I love TEARS which plays during the climax and end credits, but I also really love the track MAX:PANAMA.

Overall, Max Payne 3 is probably one of the best third-person shooter experiences available, and while you should play the originals to understand Max's character, it can be played on it's own without prior story knowledge. If you haven't played it, or it's been a while, it's worth the play/replay.

Holy shit. What a ride. I beat the game on Hard. I didn't care much for the story but the action is top-tier and I loved every moment of this game and how it makes you feel like John Wick. I had a few crashes while alt-tabbing. I miss the amount of environmental interactivity in the older games, like spamming the interact button on cabinets, drawers, lockers, etc., and finding items inside. I wasn't a fan of the game rushing you via failed chases, or dialogue mentions, especially since the game has collectibles you need to search for. Also, I missed being able to use throwables. Some sections would have been easier and lessened the pain of enemies staying hidden for extended periods.

Max Payne 3 feels a bit different than its two prequels, but it is still amazing.

The game is a continuation of Max Payne 2 8 years later. No characters from the past are spoken about such as, Vlad, Woden, Sax, and anyone except in some parts Max's dead wife and daughter. I found this unfortunate because I personally liked a lot of the characters in the previous max paynes, especially Mona Sax. There is no love story here, as there was in Max Payne 2. The game is concentrated more about trust between Max and others and Max struggling with his age and his drinking problems. However, the plot itself is intense, and makes you want to move forwards to see who is behind everything. There are nice twists, and the enemies make you want to kill them because they are so heartless. There is a notice in the rise of the default difficulty compared to previous max paynes. For one, you cannot save whenever you like. There are checkpoints. Secondly, there are a lot less painkillers and smarter enemies.

One thing you notice right away when playing is the inability to move as gracefully as you could in previous max paynes, especially Max's walking and running speed. It has took a dive, I this reflects on Max's age. Shootdodge is not as effective as previous games. Enemies are smarter, because they hide behind cover more intelligently, such that they may stay behind cover the entire time you are airborne. Not only that, when you land, there is a bit of lag that is enough time to get you killed if you failed your shootdodge. There is also an online multiplayer mode.

The graphics are very nice. The environment is detailed, however, you cannot interact with as many things as you could in the previous games. These items include cub boards, sinks and toilet, drawers, etc. The ability to open these things up and check for ammo is all gone. You can only pick ammo up from your dead enemies. The dialogue is just as great as always, however there is no more graphic comic cutscenes, but instead live cutscenes where there are flickers and stills that reflect Max's state of mind. You may not enjoy this game as much if you do not like cutscenes interrupting your gameplay, because there are a lot of cutscenes. Personally, the story is so amazing that I love watching the cutscenes and the fantastic animation and dialogues.

Finally, if you have a PC, get it for the PC. Analog controls for aiming make the game too hard unless you enable soft-lock/hard-lock. But in my opinion, those locks take the fun out. The precision of the mouse and keyboard are practically a necessity for this game unless you have a lot of experience with using analog sticks for shooters.

De cara tenho que deixar algumas coisas claras, o jogo é antigo e joguei recentemente, então tentei levar em consideração com os jogos que a gente tinha naquela época

Graficamente o jogo é bem bonito, principalmente nos personagens principais e na sua ambientação que por um momento se passa no Brasil e foi incrível ver a rockstar recriar as favelas do Rio de Janeiro, claro, teve alguns esteriótipos, mas ficou muito fidedigna a realidade.

A jogabilidade envelheceu muito bem, caramba esse jogo continua muito atual para os dias de hoje, claro que o sistema de Bullet Time ficou um pouco enjoativo, mas é inegável que foi bem feito nesse jogo!

A rockstar fez uma história simples, não quer dizer que é ruim, o jogo é bem clichê, aquele tipico filme de ação com um personagem super fodão, basicamente você assume esse personagem, e isso seria algo ruim? Claro que não, é super satisfatório ver tudo que o velho Max ainda pode fazer, o único ponto negativo que eu vejo se trata da sua duração, pelo menos no meu ponto de vista é muito curto e além de ter um final bem anti climático. Um breve elogio para a dublagem brasileira, claro que existe muito esteriótipo, mas não tem como achar muito engraçado.

Resumindo, o jogo é bom, tem os seus defeitos, mas para quem gosta de um jogo super linear com cenas de ações boas, vai gostar bastante desse titulo.

Some awesome gunplay and mechanics, with tight level design that's constantly changing. I played on hard and it was challenging with tough but fair checkpoints. Dying again and again, I felt like I was getting better with each death. It's a game that pushes you to understand the levels, encounters and at the same time, teaching you to mix finesse with practicality. Though at times, enemies blended into the environments which made some deaths feel cheap. No real boss fights unfortunately. Also, I really don't get what's the point of silencers or crouching in this game. Stealth doesn't work at all. The music though, is killer. On the story side, it's a huge waste of time. It's just very mean spirited to all its characters. But I guess Max quits drinking so it's all good right. The real big issue with this game is the frequency of the cutscenes. They interrupt gameplay to an absurd degree and you can't skip them. It really holds Max Payne 3 back from being an all time third person shooter.

I've finished my first run (on Medium difficulty) in 8h15. I'm looking forward to playing a second run, but this time with mods to change Max Payne 3 into a John Wick game :D

This game strays away really far from the original games. Everything feels so different, but it still feels so great. It's interesting to see Max thrown into a brand new setting like Brazil, and a lot of the levels felt really well designed. The story wasn't nearly as good as the older games, and the end plot twist was very predictable in my opinion. However, the gameplay more than makes up for this. There are so many small and cool details all throughout the game. The soundtrack by HEALTH was also really great, although a bit unfitting for a max payne game. It's fine though, because everything in this game feels unfitting for a max payne game. And yet it still works out.
