Only SoulCalibur I played was IV, and this one was better in almost every possible way, ended up liking it way more than I thought I would. Right off the bat the game's progression system is an actual campaign made almost entirely up of levels with special effects, really remind me of Injustice Star Labs. Ranging from wall combos only, regenerating enemies, invisible enemies, literal bombs, booby traps, there was a TON of variety, I didn't want to stop playing until the very end, and then there turned out to be a post game that was just as good as the original, with many missions not just making it harder but changing the gimmicks as well. Another thing I really liked here was collecting and using the different weapons. They weren't just cosmetic, they actually had all different effects on stats and specials which were cool. Unfortunately at least half of these were useless, especially the "improves SC" ones. Loved how there were joke weapons too, sometimes the computers even use them haha. Quite a few modes outside of Weapon Master (campaign) as well which was nice, but I did miss switching allies in team battle for regeneration like in IV. The one thing I hate about the SC games despite them being basically right up my alley is the dang controls. Every character uses totally different combinations and combined with the dang cross platform mapping it's practically impossible to read anything, I end up having to rely on guessing and figuring out combinations. I ended up maining Necrid, for some reason that forward X spamming combined with holding up or down then Y destroys the AI. Overall a really good fighting game especially for it's time, I can see why it's the most popular SoulCalibur.X Rating 4/5: I don't really do these anymore, but I promised I would do it again for SoulCalibur. Apparently to my disappointment, while this game was highly sexualized, it wasn't on the same league as IV, so I can't give it a 5/5.

One of the best fighting Games on the Nintendo Gamecube I have played so far. Has a decent story mode with great fighters. I played with Talim for the most part as she was my main back when I was little playing the arcades. Such a balance characters as for most of the cast they are. The music is pretty good as well. Had a fun time with this one even if it was a short game. I give the game an 8/10 and would recommend this game to lots of people and it's also a great game to play against others.Updated 2 Months Ago

This game is probably objectively better than the first, but something about the last game's gameplay just felt better to me.Updated 2 Months Ago

I like the idea of fighting games, but don't actually enjoy them that much. Since Soulcalibur focuses on weapons, it feels just different enough that it resonates.Updated 4 Months Ago

After playing so much of Tekken, Soul Calibur can almost feel like playing the former on easy mode, there is a dedicated guard command, attacks have far greater reach since the game is melee weapons based instead of fists, and it's much easier to read attack telegraphs by comparison. Side steeping feels noticeably easier in SC by comparison to Tekken. This isn't a bad thing since SC's easier to approach gameplay I find very appealing and fun, I remember SC2 being the best and I had a blast playing Kilik and Nightmare through their arcade mode routes, I always like easy to pick up and play games and SC2 delivers on just that.Updated 8.5 Months Ago

I approached this game with tempered expectations, yet as I delved deeper, my enjoyment grew like a spell unfurling its true potential. While it’s a typical fighting game of its era, I found it curiously engaging, with solid combat mechanics and worthy move lists. A game worth experiencing, indeed!I chose to play as Voldo—his look held a strange allure, most intriguing to these ancient eyes! His zestful stride and peculiar fighting style brought added entertainment to the fray. But, pray tell, why did the creators fashion him with such...thickness?

Well designed both in content and mechanics. Soul Calibur has content that caters to singleplayer as well as multiplayer. The weapon master mode helps introduce new situations that make you adapt your style as well as giving you tonnes of unlockables for you to work towards. The character roster is almost perfect in size and variation with only the 3 final unlockable characters feeling a bit thrown in at the last minute. Some of the later weapon master levels also have a tendency to be almost unfair. Despite this, this is possibly the best entry in the souls series and has something for any kind of fighting game fan.Updated 2 Years Ago

Whether on PS2, GameCube or X-Box, this game is a really, really, really good fighting game. Tons of fun. As a matter of fact, I'd call it the definitive fighting game for each of those consoles, with the possible exception of Tekken 5 for PS2.Updated 8 Years Ago
