The first Zelda I owned and played to almost completion back then. I got a friend to do the triforce shard hunting and I don’t think I remember doing the last two dungeons. So this was great seeing new content. Sailing was great going around from island to island unlocking the map. Combat was a tad too easily and only died once on a boss using one of the fairy’s. Graphics still hold up to this day with the stylised look and I think will never look outdated.
Overall some cool story lines to follow and excellent atmosphere

Overall, the most well-rounded Zelda experience I have played. Exciting combat, an innovative storyline and character design, on top of beautiful cel-shaded graphics and amazing soundtrack. It only gets docked in that its artstyle is not one I prefer in Zelda, but nonetheless serves its intended purpose and in no way inhibits the gameplay. Sailing only became a bit overbearing when accessing parts of the map not close to warp points, and was ultimately made better in the HD remake. A solid recommendation from me.Updated 1 Month Ago

This is absolutely my favorite game of all time! Also was my personal introduction too the series even though i was old enough too of played LTTP and OOT/MM. I just didnt have a Nintendo till i was a teenager and only becuase i started Windwaker at a friends house and couldnt stop thinking about it. bought one 2nd hand. I was a Sega then Sony kid. I have owned every Nintendo since purely for Zelda releases. As much as i would love too blame it on Nostolgia. its not. i have shedded multiple games off my top10 becuase when i play them now they arent as good. NOT true for Windwaker. I still feel like i did when i was 14. Ive beaten it countless times. Still has my favorite soundtrack of all time and ansolutely the best of the Franchise (although all are good). I also Hate nintendo for keeping it from the switch platform and then after BEGGING them for 8yrs they give us the OG one without the visual and practical fidelity of the HD remaster. Suck my whole ass Nintendo. Anyway yea, 10/10!Updated 1.5 Months Ago

It's definitely a good game. I really enjoyed the art style and the story with its characters as well. Dungeons and boss fights were really goodI liked the items in this one. Sadly, it had more flaws for me these other Zelda games. Most of these have been fixed in the HD version but I specifically played the GC one on switch 2. I did not enjoy the sailing at all. It felt extremely boring. The moment I realized I had to sail the whole ocean multiple times to find the 8 triforce charts and shards, is when I went ahead and opened up a walkthrough because exploring felt really boring and time consuming. Now of course this is a game from 2002. So I shouldn't expect any BOTW-level exploring, but it was still really hard for me to enjoy it. I will probably be replaying this game once the HD version gets a re-release on switch 2. Great game, but has its flaws.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

I have beaten every single Zelda up to a Link Between Worlds except Skyward Sword as I don't have it, Wind Waker, oh my, I hate it.Cons: The literal definition of laziness. Story makes absolutely zero sense. First dungeon is Metal Gear Solid with no weapon, WHY? Game is oversimplified into a cartoon, this should've been only used for the DS games, Phantom Hourglass is superior to this. At least half the sidequest are reused from Ocarina and Majora's, absolute garbage tri-force quest (which is required by the way). Tetra for some reason is Zelda, talking boat what, the boat has furry garbage of it, boat goes down to Hyrule frozen in time because clearly Ocarina is the best mentality hasn't left, salvaging is absolute and utter garbage compared to Phantom Hourglass, and you have to do it at least 30 times, sailing takes an eternity of doing absolutely nothing, enemies oversea can just be passed by unlike Phantom Hourglass, Link doesn't die drowning, the only new item is a crappy leaf, several dungeons that send you right back to the start if you mess up, Guadrians or something that are never said floor the world for some reason, makes perfect sense to me, Zoras became bird people in an ocean (what), Kokiri became TREE, earth temple which is actually the Ocarina shadow temple's sage is a zora and gets replaced by bird girl, but the wind temple gets replaced by tree luma dude. Shouldn't this be the other way around? Jabu Jabu is extreme laziness on making an actual dungeon, oh hey, effort and a new dungeon! Nope, just take it. Seriously? Absolutely horrendous Nintendo Gallery where you have to take pictures... OF EVERY SINGLE NPC IN THE GAME WITH MISSABLE PHOTOS. If you beat the game instead of going back before the final boss it wants you to reset your save with "new game plus" which is actually just a better camera and link wears blue lobster shirt.
Pros: Link doesn't care
Please don't play this overrated garbage, I have friends who are Gamecube fanboys and even they hate it.
X Rating: 2/5 - Bird girl gets massacred by the internet. Also it exist... of the BOAT.

90 - All timer. Thought about often and can be replayed over and over.My experience with this game is 10 years in the making, starting all the way back in September of 2015. The Wind Waker was the first GameCube game I ever received, it was gifted to me by a friend (I'm pretty sure it was his older brothers copy of the game) in the back of his moms car during a random hangout. We we're both sitting in the back and I was looking around when I noticed a game in the seat pocket, I picked it up, looked at it's mesmerizing golden cover art and was told "You can have that." I had no idea just how much that moment would influence the next 10 years of my life. I held onto the game for a while before finally taking some money out of my savings account and walking miles from my house to the local retro video game store. After at least an hour or two of walking I actually arrived at the store early and had to wait outside for them to open. The wait wasn't too long but I was anxious to get inside and secure my console. Finally they opened and I got the very thing I was looking for, a black GameCube with a matching controller (and a memory card for 15 extra dollars). That black GameCube was the first console I ever bought with my own money and I'm proud to still have it to this day, sadly it gave out on me earlier this year so I had to use my Wii to finish my playthrough. One special thing I have attached to my copy of Wind Waker is a save file a different friend started. They never even got off Outset Island but the date and time they started the game is still there and that moment of my childhood frozen in time forever is really special to me. After starting the game I would play it on and off every couple years, inching my way forward and slowly getting further and further into the game. But this year was different, my life had changed so much and I wanted to make the 10 year anniversary of me starting Wind Waker something special. I decided that this would be the year I finally finished Wind Waker, no matter what I would finish it this year. While working on beating another game with a friend I wanted to play something when we couldn't hop on and something inside me said "You should play Wind Waker." so I listened and picked the game back up for the first time in years. I had just started the Triforce quest when I last played and after two or three weeks of playing on and off when I could I finally, after 10 years, beat Wind Waker. It was a truly emotional experience for me and it's kinda bittersweet that it's come to an end but every chapter must come to a close and my time with Wind Waker was finally up. I'm excited to come back to new game plus whenever I'm ready to dive back in, but for now I'm content and will look back fondly on my time with the game and that amazing memories and treasures it's brought me in my life.
My experience with the game is so spread out it's hard to sit down and judge the entire thing, but I do know that the game is great and 100% worth your time. Please play it if you haven't, even if it takes you 10 years.

The level and progression design is solid and always is a joy to play, played it back in the day on gamecube and when I played it on PC later on in my life I still had those feelgood vibes from when I was a kid, the adventurous joy and wonderful sense of adventure I got still remained. Played with the "Better Wind Waker" rom hack. Dungeons are the worst in the entire 3D Zelda lineup. There is very little complexity to the structure and puzzles in the dungeons. For comparison, one of the weaker dungeons in Twilight Princess has more going for it than the best in WW. I do like exploring the sea and finding unique looking islands but more often than not it would turn into a dull enemy gauntlet. Also, about halfway through, it starts being full of busywork. To give it credit, I do think the game is better than the sum of its parts. The art direction, music, coupled with the story and sea travel, makes it more interesting than it actually is.Updated 10 Months Ago

I still can hear people blaming this game for being too cute, too childish, too whatever you want regarding its look, when the main issue has always been how empty it was. The Wind Waker could have been great (and actually it is, sometimes, especially when it comes to action), but overall, it's a boring game with a never ending prologue and way too much time sailing in vain.Updated 1 Year Ago

I enjoyed the exploration in this game, with each island giving a fun side quest to get pieces of hearts/other maps/rupees. Pirate Link! Yo-ho-ho he took a bite of gum gum~I love this game's story, it's one of my favourite in the series. The reveal with Tetra was fantastic too, though I honestly kinda liked her better as a pirate since she was sassier to Link, always love to see it. She's one of my favourites in the series. Her as princess Zelda just doesn't feel the same. Loved the story with Link having a little sister for once, and how he gets wrapped up in a plot to resurrect the old kingdom, had me invested from the start.
This is probably my personal favourite iteration of Ganondorf. He's literally a mob boss in this one, so cool haha. Final boss fight is one of the most fun fights in the series, I'll tell you that right now too.
The dungeons in the game started off fantastically, though they kinda fell off by the end. That being said, they were all decent, I don't think there was a single bad one. I just didn't like the helper system with Medli and Makar, I feel like the dungeons and puzzles weren't really well designed around it. Bosses were fun. The world is the real selling point of the game though, exploration is probably the best one in the series, with the amount of islands you can travel to in your lil' boat. I think this was really the first true open world game Zelda attempted, and it passed with flying colours.
The only thing I couldn't stand about this game was the triforce quest. Who the HELL approved that section?? Must've been the same person who approved the Skyward Sword one, oh man... Great game overall though, just a couple of things that really drop it for me.

One of the biggest departures for 3D Zelda up until Breath of the Wild completely changed the formula, The Wind Waker is still stunning to behold in many ways. The art style is incredible, even on the original hardware, and the bold move to move the series to a massive open world covered almost entirely by water still feels unique today. But there are tradeoffs that hold Wind Waker back from the peak of the series. Combat is overly simplified and button-mashy, the story and characters are bare-bones, and there are a lot of unnecessary obstacles out on the sea like sharks, cannons and weird flying puffer fish that just serve to annoy the player as you try to get where you need to go. Sailing itself can be tedious, though I never really tired from the sense of adventure sailing out into the great blue unknown provided. And even with its shortcomings, Wind Waker stands tall as one of the most unique, and charming, games in the series.Updated 2 Years Ago

The Wind Waker is definitely my favorite 3D Zelda game (nothing will ever beat Link to the Past), although I haven't played Skyward Sword yet. If you're thinking about playing this game, then you probably know what to expect (unless you've only played Breath of the Wild). You will find it all with great execution.Sailing around is kind of slow and boring, but you can eventually get a method of fast travel that helps a lot (but not as much as you'd like). The main issue is that the sea is dull and homogeneous. In a more traditional Zelda, as you're walking around, the landscape will have boulders, bushes, hills, lakes, and so on. Certain areas look like they might have hidden treasures, and others don't. In Wind Waker, the map is divided into a 7x7 grid, and each square has approximately one island on it. In almost every case, the treasure is on the island. The sea in between is featureless and barren.
The hunt for triforce shards definitely felt like filler, but it didn't take as long as I expected, based on people's complaints about it. However, the dungeons were excellent, and that's really the most important thing.

A friend once joked: "Sailing is the same as standing in the shower while tearing up 100 dollar bills." Wind Waker proves that true, but instead you lose time -- lots and lots of time. Was so looking forward to this overrated game. Blah.
The good:
> The cel-shaded graphics are excellent even 20 years later (this game is from 2002!)
> Combat is buttery smooth and legit fun
> They finally and effectively humanized the motives of Zelda's principal villain... in the last 1% of the game
> The last dungeon sequence is phenomenal and dramatic
> Lots of side quests, offering 10-20 additional hours of value for completionists
F*ck you, game:
> Sailing. You will spend hours sailing. I learned to aim my boat toward the next island and take bathroom breaks. At one point I left the room and watched an entire inning of a baseball game, came back, and hadn't reached my destination yet.
> The Wind Waker. This is the same mechanic as the Ocarina from OoT, but with worse execution. You'll be switching it in-and-out of inventory, and playing the warp/wind/command tunes so often you'll question whether this game is worth it.
> The Triforce Grind. Oh. My. God. The last 1/3 of the game is a long storyless quest where you gather 16 macguffins from all over the world. Some are fun. Many are not. Hope you like mazes! And waves of battling the same enemies! And grinding for rupees! And sailing!
> Laughably easy combat. I never died. Used 1 heal potion.
> Story pacing blows. You get a tiny shred of story in the beginning, then a big plot dump 10 hours in, then finally a huge lore plot dump at the very end. Everything else is devoid of story.
> A developer once said that you can tell a game is rushed because 'challenge' is presented by featuring the same enemies but in increasing numbers. Get ready for lots of that. Multiple identical battle dungeons.
> The best parts of Wind Waker are lifted from OoT. Even the music. So then, why play Wind Waker?
> Link looks like a psychological horror version of pac man.
Despite its moments, I can't recommend this game. I do maybe recommend playing the updated Wii U HD version, which apparently doubles sailing speed and slashes the demands of the Triforce Grind by nearly 1/2.
