Monument Valley is a perfect little experience. With a wonderful combination of sound design, music, aesthetics and gameplay, it delivers a short but perfect sequence of relaxing puzzle levels that nevertheless are able to astonish in their creativity and ingenuity. The graphic design is impeccable and the variation in puzzles is astonishing. The only reason I am not giving this a perfect score, is that the final levels truly reveal what could still be done with this tactile space bending puzzle mechanic that was created, and it left me wondering if there was more left on the table. An absolutely fantastic experience that beautifully threads the line between cozy and fascinating, never becoming boring but also never becoming too hard as to get you stuck.

A charming little puzzle game that plays with perspective and optical illusions unlike anything I’ve seen before. The art style is beautiful, and the puzzle designs are interesting to look at, even if the difficulty leans more toward the easy side. The only levels that really had me scratching my head were some of the final ones and a few in the postgame. But high difficulty doesn’t always equate to high enjoyment. Monument Valley is more of a “chill out for a few hours and beat it in an evening” kind of game (I was able to complete all the levels in 2.5–3 hours and platinum it). I do feel that some of the mechanics introduced were a little underutilized, particularly the twisting mechanic. Overall, though, this was a very good game to just hang out with and enjoy. Highly recommended 👍

Good 3d style puzzle game where perspective is the most important thing. Game was released as a mobile game in 2014, and was finally brought onto Steam/PC in 2022. Was fun then and is still fun now. Short and sweet with an actual story that has barely any words.

Good puzzle game.

Very "trippy" puzzle game, with puzzles mostly based on the geometry and perspective of the levels.

The level design is very good, with how the perspective and the structures just come together to get to the objective. It's also revigorating that each phase has its own mechanics or gimmicks.

Another good point is that the game does not overstay its welcome, being less than 2 hours long.

An excellent puzzle game originally made for mobile platforms (one of the few good mobile games imo).

Monument Valley combines perspective puzzles with some noice art direction to make a truly timeless experience. Wanted to get it the second it released on Steam, but couldn't at the time.

The DLCs are included with this release, and I think they take the game's core concepts to the next level. Definitely worth playing.

I highly recommend playing it - hell, complete it twice on 2 different platforms like I did. It's only a couple hours long, but it's quite engaging the entire time.

My only complaint is that it didn't set antialiasing to 8x on launch (might as well max out the only graphics option, right?).

I REALLY enjoyed this game. It's a little easier to play with a mouse. However, if you're only option is a controller, it's not much harder. The art is cool, and the music is calming. Other then that, it's a puzzle game using optical illusions. I would gladly play this again.

Very cute and clever puzzle game. I really liked the use of forced perspective and make you think outside of the box. The answers to any puzzle was never too difficult and I didn't really struggle at any point. I'm glad it was short and didn't really require my full attention. I'll definitely play 2 and 3

I think this game deserves its iconic status as a prestige smartphone game. I cannot think of a complete game which better utilizes is medium on a vertical touchscreen device. It is a bit easy and slightly vacuous (not to mention smelling of orientalism), but these are excusable shortcomings probably born out of my existing experience with other interactive media and non-Euclidean puzzle games in particular.

"Now all that remains are our monuments, stripped of their glories."

A gorgeous and grand game reliant on it's illusory, perspective dependant puzzles. Which while at glance, simple, take a little bit more of a conscious effort. Not a difficult game since its an exceedingly intuitive and based on one's understanding of 3 dimensions (which I imagine everyone has good understanding of) and the controls are that of a basic point and click.

Intelligent and artful , Monument Valley is a short piece of interactable expressionism that is remarkable is every way.

9/10.

Looks pretty, nice sound design, but some levels can barely be called 'puzzles', you just walk along the only available part, then wait for a platform to move by itself/rotate the only interactable thing in the level and keep walking in a straight line.

A nice small puzzle-lite game. Outstanding artistic style and use of visual illusions. I expected a bit more from it, based on the reviews. Almost all puzzles were very straightforward, and served more as an exposition for various visual paradoxes, and almost never dared to really exploit them: I only paused to think 4 or 5 times throughout my 3hrs playthrough. Still, it was a nice break from bigger games, and a perfect game to play on Apple Arcade. 8/10.

Playthough statitics: all main levels + dlc levels (100% comletion), 3hrs.

Playtime refers to how long it took to achieve 100% of the Steam achievements.

The game was recommended to me by a friend when I was looking for a relaxing puzzle game. It did not disappoint! It has a beautiful aesthetic with vibrant colours, as well as soothing and atmospheric background music that blends together wonderfully.

It’s a unique puzzle game where you control a princess in search of dimensional objects. The goal of each level is to reach the pedestal where these objects are kept. As you progress through the levels, you are introduced to more ways of bending and moving the environment around you, unlocking new pathways to walk along to reach the end. The game introduces these new mechanics at a very pleasant pace, so you aren’t left feeling overwhelmed by a myriad of new puzzle mechanics to learn and utilise. Instead, it makes progressing through the puzzles refreshing, preventing them from feeling repetitive.

I would definitely recommend this puzzle game as it offers high-quality gameplay that doesn’t leave you frustrated but rather curious about how the game mechanics interact with the world for you to reach your goal.

This is a short, but quite enjoyable puzzle game based on optical illusions and playing with structures. Visually it's decent, although the sounds of crows and building movements are a bit annoying. The plot isn't particularly intriguing, I didn't feel it at all, I have the impression that it could have been more concretely drawn. The difficulty level is average, but some of the puzzles surprised me with their ingenuity, I haven't played anything like this before. We'll see what the add-ons and subsequent parts will bring, I give it an OK rating.

Monument Valley is a beautiful and well made mobile puzzle game. The art is amazing, with impossible geometry and pretty colour shemes. The sound design is so well done too, I loved interacting with stuff and getting little sound bites each time. The story was subtle yet interesting with themes of the afterlife.

Monument Valley is incredibly relaxing and satisfying to play through. The only thing is that sometimes, it was a bit too simple. The game feels more like a puzzle experience rather than an actual puzzle game. With enough tapping around the screen you can solve most of the puzzles, which is fine, but I wish there was more challenge.

The game is definitely a staple though, I realized while playing that it's inspired other puzzle games I've played as well (The Last Campfire). And honestly, I could've played it for hours.

I review games with all games starting at 5/10 (Average) and then deduct/add for negatives and positives:

Overall Thoughts:

Monument Valley was one of the first "oh it's actually good" mobile first games I ever played. It's simplistic but beautiful graphics, low HUD and plentiful amount of clever puzzles made it an instant classic. The PC version looks great but the baked in mobile-ness is still there. However it's no where near a deal breaker.

Recommend:

Yes, great puzzle game with good ideas and very cheap

Positives:

+Great art-style
+Smart and interesting perspective puzzles
+Nice amount of puzzle types and pace

+3

Negatives:

-Nothing that seems to be negative

I loved this game so very much and I would abslutely reccomend it to anyone - below is a bit of a breakdown of the game as a whole

Visuals - 5/5 - I dont thinkI could really say anything bad about how the game looks. it is stunning and simple. the whole gameplay is also focued around perspective so everything is so interesting to look at and works perfectly together. the design of the characters and the crows that are present are so good too. they are all just little guys and i love them dearly

Music - 5/5 - Personally I think all the music and sound design fit this game so well. The soundtrack is so chill and i will be deffinately seeking it out to listen to on a regular basis. I was able to get instanly in the zone listening to it and the little caws of the crows just made me like the little guys even more

Gameplay 4/5 - this is the first part where some points are dropped. Now the lack of 5/5 if deffinately personal choice and preference but there were some points where you would move an element of the map and it would either be too sensitive to the movement or not sensitive enough - this with the space restriction of the screen did fustraight me from time to time but honestly thats the only real fripe i have with it. the tapping to move worked and most the time the map movement is smooth. another feature of the game that i liked was the fact it lets you do screenshots... like they already know its beautiful

Story - 5/5 - this gets full marks because I was pleasantly suprised how invested to the vauge story I got - three is a clear thread of the main character Ida going through these ruins to replace possible stolen artifcats. i finished the game invested in what the artifacts were - if they were actually stolen - if so why does Ida have them? there is a Sequel and dlc for this game that I will be investing some time into at some point BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW

Enjoyment - 4/4 - looking at all the factors and game as a whole I did have alot of fun playing it - I just wished there was more to it for the first game - it is fairly cheap to buy but theres something about it being short that made the cost a little annoying - even though I do think every penny was woth it.

overall I do suggest getting this game or even watching some play of it as it really is something unique and wonderful
