I find the gameplay loop to be very tedious and the overall combat lackluster. This game really focuses on the hunting aspect but I didn't find it compelling because you're just running around until the green sparkly things highlights what you need to track. Once you're in a fight, the combat feels very clunky. I often just stood there and mashed the same combos over and over again, and I felt like I did no damage no matter how much I upgraded my gear. The story and characters are basically nonexistent so this game has almost nothing to keep me interested. I tried giving it a chance but the game just isn't for me.

The base game is fantastic. The monsters are varied and the combat is great. Stringing combos while using one of the 14 weapons is always a good time. A game I love to comeback to when I don't know what else to play. The game runs amazing, looks amazing, plays amazing but the story kinda sucks. Not being able to skip cutscenes is so painful on repeat playthroughs or when playing with friends. Its always "can't join quest since player hasn't seen cutscene yet" and every player needs to complete their cutscene for every monster that has it. Say for example you're going to fight Nergi. To do so everyone needs to enter their quest, run to the cutscene location (i.e, find it), watch the unskippable cutscene, back out the quest, wait for all your friends to do it, fight monster. It adds like an extra 15 mins on each monster that has it. Also searching for tracks sucks. I don't wanna be ripped from the fun part of killing monsters to then run around a map for an hour to find all the foot prints. Lastly, clutch claw sucks. It's the worse mechanic from the modern 3 games.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

This was the first MH I played since Monster Hunter Trii, the improvements are plenty and notable, it feels more dynamic and raw, the hunt feels like a hunt, crafting is improved, weapons aren't as interesting but that's the only downgrade from Trii. This is the Monster Hunter that conquered the western world.

This franchise has always been extremely complex to get into at first, but once you get the feel for it, you found yourself totally addicted to it, wanting to discover and understand everything the game has to offer. There's a very high skill cap, very hard to master.Compared to the older titles, this game brings a much more realistic and living environment, with its wildlife and flora. Monsters are well designed and some are back from the older titles.
You have 14 weapons to choose from and learn to use, moves are better and more complex in this one. Lots of quality of life adjustments too.
It's a game to try and feel for yourself, kind of overwhelming at first, but when it finally "clicks" for you, you're in for a long shot.

Wonderful bosses, worlds and character customization. The music is jamming and the animations and fun. Combat is also satisfying. Put in over a hundred hours into this. Ultimately, the G-rank and the need to consistently grind the same monsters is what put me off continuing this otherwise fantastic game and FOMO hurts the ongoing gameplay into late game.Updated 4 Months Ago

I started Monster Hunter: World in 2022 with my husband, who’s a longtime fan of the series. I’d never played a Monster Hunter game before, but he was super excited to introduce me to it, and I was ready to dive in. At first, I was absolutely set on getting all the achievements—big goals, right? But due to the grindy nature of them and the game itself, I ended up taking a break from it in 2023. It was just one of those things where you pause the game and suddenly a year’s gone by.Meanwhile, my husband was patiently waiting for me to get back into it, and for Monster Hunter: Wilds to come out. Unfortunately for me, Wilds came out just before my energy for finishing World, so my husband was focused on that! He beat it though, and we got back into World, and oh boy, was it a bit difficult to get back into it!
Before my long hiatus, we were so close to the end. We only had four monsters left: Furious Rajang, Raging Brachydios, Alatreon, and Fatalis. That was it! We were so close. But after a year off, I forgot pretty much everything about how to play. My muscle memory was gone, I was forgetting buttons and how to dodge, how to sneak, how to run. Getting through those last four monsters was rough, but we finally did it, and I’m so proud we saw it through together.
Now, three years later, I’ve finally finished the game. No, I didn’t get all the achievements (and honestly, I have no desire to try). It’s a phenomenal game, but it's also extremely grindy, and I just don’t have the patience for that level of repetition in any games. Still, I totally understand why this game means so much to so many people, my husband included. It holds up incredibly well even now, and the monster design and world-building are just chef’s kiss.
I’ll definitely be playing Monster Hunter: Rise and Wilds eventually—and of course, I’ll be playing with the husband again. Anyway, I highly recommend World if you like action-y co-op games and don’t mind a bit (or a lot) of grinding. It was a great experience, even if it took me a few years to finish.

So grindy. Not for me. I knew sort of what I was getting into, but having never played a Monster Hunter game, I assumed there would be more to it. I assumed it would be more like a single-player RPG, but it's more like an MMO grindathon.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

Played this game about 50-50 between solo and co-op. First, let me get this out of the way. The co-op in this game is pretty bad, it's unreliable, and you have to run alot around the map and watch cutscenes before your friend/s can join.I found Mhw to be both underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time. There are lots of systems that get introduced constantly. You are bombarded with texts and dialogue that, for the most, are unneeded; this breaks up the pace. Speaking of pace, most of your time will be spent clicking through menus and returning from gameplay sequences. This makes the game feel less immersive.
If I had to put Monster Hunter World into simple terms it would go like this: Some great sequences and set pieces spread between droughts of filler and menus.

My first introduction to Monster Hunter. It was the gateway drug that got me hooked to Monster Hunter. I ended up picking it up about 7-8 months before Monster Hunter Rise dropped, so I didn't really play as much as I probably would have of this game before I got distracted and moved onto Rise.Updated 5.5 Months Ago

3/10 below averageIntimidatingly complex looking. I bought this once and returned. I bought again and am trying to get into it and see if I like this kind of game. The latest monster hunter is coming out soon.
I played wilds and loved it, over a hundred hours into it. I tried this again after doing most of the stuff in wilds. World has too much down time. I can wonder around a map for a long time really doing nothing looking for a monster. I know that is considered game play, but it is not fun for me. The combat is also a step down. So much more fluid in wilds. After trying this game like 4 different times, I think I am going to retire it. I really liked wilds, worlds just not for me.
I think im going to try rise next. I heard it is more fast paced. The thing that I like the most about these games is fighting big monsters and enjoying complex or in depth combat. I am sure world has this, but too much crap in between.

returned to this years later and, after having played several MonHun games since, have some new thoughts! Still an 8 - still a great game.+ beautiful environmental details
+ metric ton of content
+ in general, the game controls really well. It is a nice change of pace from 4U and other monhun games that comparatively control like molasses
- the unskippable cutscenes still are bad
- the multiplayer on story quests is still astoundingly bad
- some of the monster behavior is stupid and feels ... wrong? rathian running back n forth ad infinitum, for example, just feels annoying and purposeless. additionally - monsters' endless roaring, them constantly interrupting fights (despite dung pods), and their common propensity to flee are all things that just take a ton of control away from the player.
- tracking is pointless, aside from getting a few extra points. the game feels uncommitted to this idea of "hunting". it wants us to "track" a monster, but that amounts to following a green line. it wants us to find footprints and marks, but that amounts to "find the green glowing spot" and watching your hunter scoop dirt in a vial. You even eventually get a mount in iceborne that does the walking for you (admittedly I liked this). they could have removed all this entirely and made this a more interesting "play" experience. either let us learn the habitat and track a monster proper, or just do what rise did

Great game that I almost always played co-op online with someone. It was more enjoyable playing online with other people that I knew and at the time it seemed like everyone in the world was playing this game. The main hindrance to my experience is that I played this game in 2022. Iceborne is set up pretty poorly post the story final boss and I would not have some of the issues I will state if I had played in 2019. Big monsters like Alatreon and Raging Brachydios are avaliable at MR 25 while the powerful gear like Health Augments aren't avaliable to their fullest until MR 100. If I had played as Iceborne was updated by MR would have grown with the updated and I would have good gear for Alatreon. I feel like this is a very bad design choice by Capcom because any new players will throw themselves at hard monsters and get frustrated or have to grind 75 ranks to get the proper gear. Even with the proper gear and strategy, endgame monsters can be hard to deal with without the best weapon augments at MR 100Updated 7.5 Months Ago

Realmente viciante

Absolutely stunning. The monsters and the world feel alive! A bit lacking in monster variety with most being dragons or other reptiles. I loved just exploring levels and capturing animals for my house. This would be a 9 or 10 if not for the poorly implemented multiplayer. Playing story missions with friends is a chore due to limitations until after a host watches a cutsene in any mission with a new monster.Updated 8.5 Months Ago

I had fond memories of the game when I played near launch on console. Recently I revisited it with the intention to play at least until the end of the campaign on Steam, but eventually I dropped. The cutscenes are annoying, plenty and unskipable. The Zorah Magdaros quests are boring and their design is terrible. The quests to find tracks are also very boring. And these things together take a lot of the playtime.
The core gameplay and combat is awesome though. Maybe some day I come back once more to finish it for good.

Pros:- fantastic monster design and behavior (it truly feels like fighting a wild creature that accurately reacts to player actions)
- huge and diverse biomes
- enjoyable character movement
- many types of weapons to choose from, each of which completely changes the gameplay
- wide range of game mechanics
Cons:
- intimidating number of tutorials
- high complexity of the game in overall, reading the wiki might be required for certain aspects of it
- depending on the skill and commitment, the game requires a certain dose of grind (especially if not cheating by using a top-tier gear available since the beginning of the game)
- no built-in support for pausing the game in the single player mode (each hunt takes 50 minutes on average and it must be replayed again if not finished in one sitting)
- mediocre and ridiculous story
- although the game has a single player mode, it was mainly designed for cooperative gameplay, however connecting multiple players if highly unintuitive
General:
- the game requires a lot of dedication to experiment with various types of gear, consumables and strategies

Where to even begin? Monster Hunter World is such a seamless, mechanically complex, and just plain fun action game with a variety of bosses and biomes. I've played a lot of these games, going back to tri- on the Wii, and this feels like the perfect balance of hardcore difficulty and massive quality of life changes. The game runs like a dream on PC and has tons of content. I only finished the main story and have dozens of hours of content left in the base game alone. No notes, a perfect video game. Excited to move on to Iceborne!Updated 10 Months Ago
