Coming from 3,4,5, this game is a 9.5/10. This engine is what I thought we’d get in the last few games. Everything was peak here. Great music, graphics, story, villains. I can’t believe little Haruka is a mom now. I shed tears when I thought Kiryu died. I wouldn’t have been mad if it happened. I’m sure there are plot holes once I spend some more time in retrospection. I do have to say that normal difficulty is basically easy difficulty. I had only one tough battle and everything else was easy. So many side things to do as well. 10/10 I hope next game continues this peak. One thing I didn’t like was old enemies that Kiryu wiped out keep coming back. Please no more Korean/Chinese mafia revenge
Kiryu is a motherf#**# legend.

This game does benefit from them focusing more on characters than inserting some stupid conspiracies like past Yakuza games. It's getting annoying that every final mission or close to one, is ascending Millenium Tower. Show some creativity! This series in general treats women horribly, but this one almost comically so. The way Haruka is handled in this story is complete dogshit. It's refreshing to have just evil villains. No justifications or plot twists to make them appear sympathetic. However, this game feels pointless. They undermine Kiryu's ending in the next game. What is the point of ending like that if you're just going to bring him back right away? Plus the combat feels horrible compared to 5. What the hell did they do.

The Song of Life, the sixth chapter of the Yakuza saga, felt to me like an almost perfect ending to Kiryu's arc (games 0 through 6). It’s a game that truly stirred countless emotions in me; in fact, it's one of the games that made me laugh and cry the most. It's such a well-written emotional journey, with such great character development, that it's simply unforgettable.First, I'll talk about aspects unrelated to the story:
The graphical and technical evolution with the Dragon Engine is undeniable. Jumping from Yakuza 5 to 6 feels like a full generational leap. The difference is incredible. In terms of physics and animations, it's brilliant as well, and everything that felt clunky in the PS3 trilogy is gone, making this journey much smoother and more enjoyable. This includes the gameplay, which is dynamic and, when it comes to combat, truly excellent.
The soundtrack is on par with the rest of the series. I don't think it surpasses the best one, which for me is Yakuza 0, but it's still very good.
I especially want to highlight the substories, which are without a doubt the best I've seen so far (from 0 to 6). The fact that they're all fully voice-acted makes a massive difference. Most of them are brilliantly written, funny, or dramatic. Many of them made me laugh or cry. It's amazing how these developers can take a simple idea and turn it into a substory that truly moves you, often leaving you with a beautiful message or moral at the end. I fully support the idea of having fewer but higher-quality substories, thanks to the voice acting. I hope the rest of the series continued this trend.
I'd also like to highlight the baseball minigame. Even though I know nothing about the sport and have no special interest in it, I loved it — enough to place it as my fourth favorite story-driven minigame, after the Taxi Driver and Haruka’s Idol segments from Yakuza 5, and Majima's Cabaret Club from Yakuza 0. Building your dream team with characters you've met across different substories, training them, and playing matches is incredibly satisfying, and the game makes it very friendly for people like me who aren't into baseball.
Now I'll move into story spoilers to give my final thoughts:
Yakuza 6 is simply the most human story in the series. I think it even surpasses Majima’s part in Yakuza 0. The character development is masterful across the board: from Kiryu’s ultimate sacrifice for those he loves, to Yuta’s acceptance as Haruto’s father, to the Hirose family's members embracing Kiryu and fighting by his side... everything.
The way the story revolves around family bonds — with the central conflict being the protection of Haruka and Haruto — is just mind-blowing. Even the twists, which are somewhat expected in a story like this, are handled brilliantly.
Take, for example, the twist involving Hirose family's patriarch: how someone would pledge lifelong loyalty to the person who accepted him when he was nothing, doing literally anything to uphold their wishes (keeping the Onomichi secret), and the moment when he just "can't go on" against his own family members... simply incredible.
There’s so much to praise in this story... but I’ll just focus on the ending, which shattered me into a thousand pieces and made it impossible not to cry.
Sacrificing yourself, "dying" for your family. Accepting that as long as you’re around, they’ll never be truly safe. Learning to let go. If you truly love something, you must set it free... It’s impossible not to understand Kiryu’s decision, but God, it hurts. An unforgettable masterpiece.
For me, the best games in the saga are Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 6. Opening and closing Kiryu’s journey in this wonderful series has made me incredibly happy. I have no regrets about starting it and dedicating so many, so many hours to it. Because it’s not just about finishing the games — it’s about completing them 100%. Only a saga this beautiful could make me do that.
It was seven unforgettable adventures, a journey I shared with Kiryu, Majima, Saejima, Akiyama, and so many others, and one that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I just want to say thank you to Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio for making me so happy, and to say that I’m really looking forward to what’s next.
Meeting Ichiban in Like a Dragon 7, getting to know Yagami in Judgment, continuing Kiryu’s story in Like a Dragon Gaiden and Like a Dragon 8, and even seeing Majima’s pirate adventure... I can only hope for the best from this saga. I’m sure it will only get better from here.

My 2nd or 3rd favorite Yakuza game so far. It really feels like the main narratives of this series became a lot better starting with Y0 and it carries over to this game too. The side characters are charming, the antagonists are devious, and nothing feels like filler. It feels like they pulled out all the stops for Kiryu's last time in the spotlight. I did very little side content because I was so engrossed in the story, so I can't comment much on that. The few sub stories I did were OK and didn't overstay their welcome.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

This game is a fantastic finale for Kiryu and one the best Yakuza game's period because of it's strong writing in and overall scope. This game takes so many elements of what the series great and makes them work in ways that shows from the area's where they struggled. This can best be seen in the plot points, numerous story elements are similar to previous games (child of destiny plot from 1, nationality twists from 2, rural yakuza family from 3, etc.) but it does them with significant better writing which makes the overall plot much more engaging. Despite this game ignoring many recurring characters, the new characters become just as engaging and make for some of the most memorable characters in the franchise. The main Tojo antagonist, Someya, is easily one of best antagonists in the franchise so far if not the best as he constantly pops up through out the story with him constantly becoming a deeper and deeper character. The game also introduces many other organizations but it handles the connections between them really well and it never confuses the player despite of it's many moving parts. The mini game collection this time around is great but the game sort of falls apart when it comes to progression, it's focused around five colored orbs except for some reason it is significantly harder to get green and purple orbs that slows endgame progression. It also doesn't help that restaurants don't have much variety in terms of orb distribution and it's pretty easy to go broke in this game until Fortune is upgraded. This game introduces extreme heat mode which is a great power-up state for Kiryu that could've used some tweaking, like not automatically picking up weapons (all of which have 3 durability for some reason) for example. This game is the first time the Dragon Engine was used so it's a little unrefined but this game's broken physics is actually really entertaining instead of immersion breaking. The game also looks fantastic... when it's not a disgusting jaggy mess, the best solution I was to use SMAA with ReShade using it's own FXAA & SMAA effects, but if you're not going for higher resolutions or frame-rates just use the SSAA x1.5 or higher options. The music is good but it's not of the series best, it doesn't hold a candle to Y0 or Kiwami, or even Y3 but the karaoke section is pretty good. But the direction in this game is good and Kiryu is almost at his coolest here (only behind Y0 and K2) and you really feel the way he feels as the game comes to an end. This game really makes you hate these new antagonists as they hit you in personal ways that Kiryu hasn't really been hit in a long time, if ever with how far these villains go. Overall, despite its horrible anti-anialising and wacky progression system, this is one of the best Yakuza games with an amazing story and the perfect variety of gameplay.Updated 9 Months Ago

It was a super solid Yakuza game. I enjoyed the story a lot more than previous entries like Kiwami 2, 3, 4, and 5 and about as much as Kiwami 1, Some of the twists and turns were a little much but it was done much more expertly than previously. I liked the side characters quite a bit and it was nice to see new characters that didn’t rely on Majima or other recurring characters. I liked how the story was similar to Yakuza 3 but just more refined and better done. Some of the things in the story and the writing shocked me and really drew me in at times even though the overarching plot in the end fell slightly flat for me. It was a solid ending to the Kiryu saga. The substories were pretty solid, at least the half that were not minigame related like hostesses, baseball, etc. I liked seeing pocket circuit fighter again, Kiryu as the Michi mascot, a matchmaking roomba, and a Siri that was trying to preserve its life. The substories that I did play (and I only played the non minigame ones) were pretty great and my favorite of the Yakuza games behind Yakuza 0 so far. They were very funny and outrageous and completely what I hope for.
Overall I had a great time with it and it’s behind only Yakuza 0 and maybe Yakuza Kiwami 1 as my favorites in the series so far. Can’t wait to play more of them

What a finale to the Kiryu storyline. As usual lots of twists and turns.Pros:
-I'm so glad we returned to only one playable character. The bloat in 4 and 5 is not missed and most of the other playable characters were not interesting enough.
-Really great story and did a pretty good job of coming to a conclusion that was appropriate (though frustrating) for the series.
-The combat from 0/Kiwami 1/Kiwami 2 is finally back and thank god because 3, 4, 5's combat was horrible. Returning to this style of level up and combat feels so refreshing and good. Even though it is the Kiwami 2 combat which is very unrealistic having bodies fly around like ragdolls.
-The clan builder game was fun though too easy
-I thought most new characters were really interesting and well done, especially Someya. I really liked him as a character.
Cons:
-A lot of the same cons from the previous games; The cutscenes are WAY too long, random encounters are ANNOYING, the combat is far too easy to cheese, substories are all pointless wastes of time.
-I don't like Nagumo as a character. He was super annoying and brash, and though he had character development, I still found him to be a whiny twerp with a hard-on even by the end.
-The baby soothing game near the beginning was horrible. The controls wouldn't register. I'd try all 4 soothing methods and it'd say they are all wrong which is impossible, and they made you do it like 5 or 6 times in that sequence. I wanted to scream.
-The troublr app was ANNOYING. The constant pop-ups and sound of notifs from it was obnoxious and the game even forces the pop-up to open on you if you ignore too many. It really wants you to waste your time with these stupid missions that give you next to no XP.
-I found the lack of Daigo and Majima in this game criminal. Saejima not being in it I couldn't care less, and the baseball guy from 5 and detective from 4 just disappearing from the series is weird but they were so weak as characters that I don't care.
Overall story analysis:
I am honestly very unsatisfied with how 5 and 6 went overall when looking at the Kiryu and Haruka relationship specifically. Haruka is successful and lets Kiryu risk everything for her just for her to quit being an idol to be with him, which makes the entire 5th game pointless. Then he gives himself up to the cops for no reason even when they said he can get out of it scot-free so he can "clear his name". Then as he's in prison, Haruka says f this I'm gonna go be with him and leave the children (also like 9 children alone with no money and support wtf how is that even legal) but doesn't even go to Tokyo she ends up in Hiroshima with Yakuza dudes? Why? We never got an answer. And then when Kiryu saves her and her family he goes away for good. The whole time they were trying to be together but then didn't for no reason, and now Kiryu is just a ghost for no reason. He could have taken the money and lived with them but decided not to for no reason at the end. The results would have been the same and he would have been with Haruka! What does he gain from being a ghost? The entire Yakuza already know about Morning Glory, Haruka, and the Hirose clan! It's not protection. It serves no purpose over than to be frustrating. Also, there are so many questions related to Majima presented in 5 that were not explained AT ALL about his secret wife he had and his whole situation in 5. Then the letter Kiryu writes to Daigo is maddening and makes 0 sense. He writes it as if it is to Haruka and they jebait you to it being him. They had no relationship the entire series and Kiryu never once spoke of Daigo as if he is a son. That letter should have been to Haruka and would have been so much more meaningful, but no we have to keep leaving her behind for no reason just to piss off the player. Overall, it is very unsatisfying as an ending to Kiryu. They did better with Majima in 0 alone and I still care about him more just because of that. Kiryu has always been a Batman-like moral standing person but has no personality or substance to him and he makes a lot of decisions in the story for the sake of soap opera and nothing else. Extremely unsatisfying character.

Had a blast with this one - narratively this one was also fantastic - a great closing chapter to the Kiryu arc of the franchise - 6 really goes back to basics in a lot of ways and hones the focus back to only certain things, which I felt was needed after the bloat of 5. Beautiful ending of the yakuza series before the reboot. At the start i thought it have a good balance between story and gameplay but after hiting 2/3 the game it got way too long cutescenes, most annoying if you think you do just one thing before sleeping and than you sit in a 30 min cutescene.
I would like it if there is a warning that you cant save in a long time after accepting to go further.
The gameplay feels much better now.
I love that they changed the level system and what you can do more with you exp.
The sidequest are okay this time around, they are still good but i liked the ones of earlier games more.
( dont know if i just had a bad view on that or if they changed the dialogue to let it feel more adult but i always had the view/feeling that kiryu is more angry of haruka having a boyfriend and just wanna find him to beat the shit out of him for doing it with his daughter.
I know too that it was always like that but i am kinda sad that he say that he is harukas guardian and not the step/father or step/grandfather of haruto
I know why storywise they decide majima and daigo was decided to not show up that much i am still kinda sad that they only appeared in intro and ending of the game, atleast akiyama is still there.
I love it too in the story how they set up that you know that some characters doesnt are that important or that you know the direction they are going and than flip it completely and play with it.)

Great way to finish the Kiryu story. Huge step up graphically. Loved the story. Loved the closure. Possibly my favorite supporting characters yet in this series. I really liked the way the upgrade system was done this time around. Found myself having fun just getting lost in the game at times, whereas some prior games I hit a point that I just wanted to rush through and finish. I think some of my favorite moments in the series came from this game. Future spoilers: If I didn’t already know that Kiryu returns later on, then I would be sad to see the Kiryu story end here, and I also might not have been too too happy with his ending. But knowing what I know, I can’t help but let it positively influence the way I see this. I might have to dive right back into the series after this.Updated 1 Year Ago

Same like Kiwami 2 - Yakuza 6 suffers from soulless combat but expect that it's an great game. From all yakuza games i played so far (0/K1/K2/3/4/5/6) it rivals 0 for the best main story, side storys are really nice too and substories despite not being the best are great - side content like minigames etc. on other hand is not only great but top-level.
Honestly - If combat was more refined Y6 would be my clear Nr.2 from the series so far hiding only behind Y0 but it is how it is. Let's hope they gonna refine it in the Judgment what despite not being Yakuza game per-se apparently it's next entry i should play and i hope people not overhyping it like they not overhyped Y0 (it was as great as people said).

Brilliant end to the Kiryu saga with an ending that beautifully ties an end to the themes of the Kiryu saga. Whilst the combat wasn't the most fleshed out and the upgrade system was abysmal, I still love this game for its side content and story. If it had more going for its side content and gameplay, it could've reached Yakuza 5 levels for me, but as it stands, Yakuza 6 is a great entry in the Yakuza franchise and is easily top 5.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

As bad as Yakuza 4. Terrible story pacing with lots of filler, half the game is a slog. The combat is a HUGE downgrade from 0 and 5. There's no weapon system any more, and no fighting stances for Kazuma either, we're back to Yakuza 1/2 levels of combat here. There are 2 combos, and both are boring and easy to pull off (literally press R2 and spam either triangle or square). Most new characters are boring and two-dimensional, why not feature series regulars like Majima, Saejima and Daigo more?Updated 1.5 Years Ago
