First played this at a time in my life when I would get most of the way through games then just never finish them. So I got about 30-50 hours in then stopped playing, then around a year later I picked it up again and finished it. I really liked it and said it was my favourite Persona game because I had forgotten how good Persona's 3 and 4 were.

Despite a ton of dialogue and me not thinking I would like a high-school sim, I really enjoyed my time with P5.

+ Game design first and foremost (no random encounters, good dungeons, good UI, battle mechanics, sidequests, etc.)
+ Music is top tier and very distinguished
+ Story provides good social commentary and creates impactful moments with the characters

- Game is long as hell (120 hrs)
- Extremely text heavy, but I settled in eventually.

Makoto is best party member, and Kawakami is best confidant.

Music obviously a 10. Rekindled my love for turn based games. I love the social link system. i would recommend this game to any Jrpg fans.

My first persona game. It was definitely an experience. Why? Simple, if i ever got tired of doing palaces i had a whole different game inside the same game. Doing social networking was fun, knowing the places and characters felt like i got a 2 in 1 deal. The soundtrack on this game is a masterpiece. Not hard, not easy. Cool graphics style.

This game is perfect easily gets the #2 spot for me. Even though I have not even completed the game yet it has brought me through one of the most incredible experiences ever. This game is one of very few to make me cry during the Akechi death but it is also one of those games where I laugh every 15 minutes or so as the characters are written in a perfect way in which it makes you feel as though you are one of the Phantom Thieves. The soundtrack is also Atlus' best work by far even outside of the game which is very rare, even holding one of my top songs ever Beneath The Mask.

Review PTBR - Platinum Difficult - 6/10, 2 playthrough.

Mementos music is horrendous, the story is predictable and the game is quite pretentious. Many characters are plain or unlikable, even among the main cast, and the dungeon design was all over the place, some were cool and others couldn't end soon enough. I also felt a bit unhappy on how the final battle played out.
The art itself was nice, the music (beside mementos) was enjoyable, and the gameplay is fluid. A couple of characters saved the cast as well.

Overall the game gets a 7 "good". It's "just" good.

After nearly 10 years, Atlus delivered the much hyped monolith of a sequel: Persona 5, perhaps destined to remain one of the most stylistically impressive games of all time. Every aspect, from menus to battle screen to dialogue to sound effects, are presented in a sleek, stylish manner. Its visual presentation is monumental. Moreover, Atlus finally addressed gameplay QoL issues from the last few games and even introduced actual level design to their dungeons, employing a more stealth-oriented approach to initiate battle.

The story is another dramatic shift, disposing of the individual's tragedies to target their actions as they react to society and its vices. The pervasive feeling of vigilante heroism resonates with the thousands fed up with the old guard's corruption, both public (the media, authority figures) and private (parental issues). Adolescent topics such as insecurity or acceptance are downplayed in favor of rebellion, which at times compose some of the series' most powerful moments.

This is where its positives end. While each entry experimented and expanded on the previous effort's format, Atlus seems content with recycling themselves, assembling mechanics into a package that feels all too 'safe' this time. They aim not for innovation but formal perfection. While each mechanic tweaks previous entries' gameplay quirks into something more accessible, the main combat loop disappointingly remains the same, flaws and all. The much celebrated visual style and ease of control - combined with a deluge of mechanics (both in and out of combat) all fail to address the issue, and just feel like embellishments to a fundamentally weak system.

Whatever its flaws, Persona 5 remains one of the most important 8th generation JRPGs.

Everyone who plays games has a preference for what type of genres they tend to enjoy and which they tend to dislike. Even players that claim to play and enjoy all types of games fall prey to this; try as they might, they can't help but be pulled towards what they like and away from what they don't. It's important to acknowledge this because it helps contextualize your appreciation for a certain title, which may have surpassed your expectations in a certain genre. And for many players unfamiliar with the JRPG genre, that title was Persona 5.

Persona games, especially P5, can be intimidating to both start playing and to recommend. With the ever-increasing number of games releasing, game passes, constant sales, and growing backlogs, it can be difficult to justify even adding a 100+ hour game to your library, let alone pushing it to the front of the queue. But give Persona 5 an inch, and it'll take a mile; it's perhaps the most stylish, most comprehensively appealing game ever made. So many little details have gone into making this game an aesthetic masterpiece, which might only be noticed by their exclusion in other games. Its noir-like pop art style is gorgeous in both a 2D and 3D space and purveys every single aspect of P5. And it's not content to just be a feast for the eyes, either; Persona 5 is a delight for all senses. Its acid jazz-inspired soundtrack is nothing short of excellent, and so many tracks feel like they were scientifically created to be as infectious as possible. Even menu sounds have a distinct charm to them, highlighting the overall supreme level of polish in this title. And when you feel the immense amount of care that was put into this title, you develop care for it in turn.

Aesthetics aren't enough to maintain most players' interest through 100 hours though, but luckily, Persona 5 has more than enough to back that playtime up. The main combat mechanics are mostly the same, save for the useful reimplementation of the negotiation tactic. But it's the changes surrounding the combat that are perhaps P5's biggest improvement over its predecessors; for the first time, dungeons ditch the randomly generated, generic-looking floors for grand, impressively designed, and detailed palaces. This adds an incredible amount of depth and personality not just to the game but to the antagonists as well; it's also significantly more interesting just to traverse through and explore. Shadow encounters are more variable and less wonky than in previous titles as well; ambushing shadows is easier now, and playing stealthily now feels like a viable alternative. Everything about the Persona experience feels streamlined, especially the combat, which leads to an improved gameplay loop and an enhanced RPG experience.

All these things are good, but what Persona 5 really has working for it is its heart. It's a natural human emotion to want to correct injustices in the world, and P5 thrives on that notion. It's a captivating story of characters who have suffered at the hands of an unfair system—a school teacher, a con artist, a politician—and how they struggle to overcome those systems, most importantly, without corrupting themselves. It's a simple enough concept, yet it never fails to keep the player interested, always engaging and encouraging players to try just one more day. And its mountains of side content and large cast of characters ensure a Persona experience that is uniquely yours; everyone emerges from their game with their own favorites. And all the characters, supported by excellent voice acting, all offer their own distinct charm and endearing circumstances. Spending time with them almost feels like developing real friendships, and when the game finally comes to an end, it feels like letting go of people that you really know. And so only in P5's ending do you realize what an impact the game has made.

Calling a triple-digit hour title a good introduction to a genre seems like a ridiculous notion, but that's exactly what Persona 5 is. For fans of JRPGs, it's an absolute no-brainer. But it's incredible how a daunting title like this was able to reel in so many JRPG-averse players as well. It shouldn't really be a surprise. Because behind everything P5 has to offer—the stunning aesthetics, the brilliant characters, the world-class soundtrack—is the hope for a better world, and it's that uniquely human desire to fix what's broken that sticks with you far beyond when Lyn sings her final ballad. Persona 5 shows us that the choices we make matter and encourages us to strive towards our own better future. It's an incredibly worthwhile journey, and you'll never feel 100 hours pass so quickly. Persona 5 is a stunning and stylish masterpiece—the very definition of an instant classic—and absolutely one of the best RPGs ever made. A landmark title in a series that just seems to keep getting better.

A long journey of a game.

Good
- the sae flash forwards are cool way to tell story
- the story behind futaba wanting her heart changed makes me feel the phantom thieves were real, cause I could use a heart change myself. This allowed me to relate to the game on a deeper level
- there's a certain appeal and humor to leveling up skills doing random normal daily things like answering questions in class or crafting lock picks or eating a huge burger challenge.
- the Japanese locations are well done. Good replication of the real places.
- I love the foul language the characters use, like ryuji. It makes the chars feel organic.
- the mental symbolism behind each palace based on what the villain perceives their world is interesting to see. Like ATMs for people kaneshiro sees. And art pieces of madarame's students. And kamoshida's view of Ann. It makes me think about what my palace would look like, and the way I view others would be symbolized in my own palace.
- the music is awesome
- the characters are diverse and interesting.
- by the end of it, I felt like I knew the characters personally. It's like I knew them for a life time. This was one positive thing that came out of the insane amount of cutscenes and dialogue.
- despite the game feeling it was dragged on during the middle, the ending was absolutely beautiful, and it wouldn't have been so had the game not been so long. I really felt like a journey. An adventure. As if I've made a group of long lasting friends.

Bad
- too much dialogue. When shit goes down, it's fine. But when nothing's going on, it's tedious going through it.
- it's very hard to fuse the personas required by the twins because if the persona needed isn't on my list, I would need to spend yen to withdraw it just to see what the fusion result is, then toss it away to withdraw the personas I had on my list originally. This is so inconvenient to the point where I absolutely needed to refer to a guide.
- sometimes RNG can just completely f*** you over. There was one time I got ambushed, one of the enemies inflicted rage on my whole party, so I couldn't heal, and the enemy just wiped me out in two turns. There was literally nothing I could do to save the situation the moment I got to ambushed.
- it's unclear when you should spend time with a confidant. The game says bond Wong deepen, so does that mean I shouldn't request them? It's unclear what I should do
- there's a lot of unnecessary dialogue. Like when grabbing an item in dungeons, some other party members always have to chime in with a completely useless comment, like oh look it's a treasure chest when I clearly see it, or maybe we should try to press this button, when I obviously will press it already.
- the character animations aren't exactly ground breaking. The characters are standing there talking 95% of the time, making the cutscenes visually boring. MGS is known to have a crap ton of cutscenes too but at least you get to enjoy high quality animations, which makes it more interesting.
- the negotiations are way too vague. The answers are terribly ambiguous.
- it sucks that I can't angle the camera freely while running in one direction. This makes scouting for enemies around me while moving difficult

Persona 5 took me five years to finish— it's easily the longest it's ever taken for me to start and finish a game— and the result of all that time is a game of highs and lows— a game overflowing with content that often struggled to offer anything meaningful, a constantly engaging story that ended up way more simplistic than it believes it is, one of my favorite battle systems in a JRPG that teeters too precariously between overly challenging and easy to break, characters that I simultaneously love but also wish they gave me more to latch onto, and an overall experience that I simultaneously wanted to get the most out of while begging for it to just end already— it's fantastic, it's frustrating, it's a Persona game, the one that saved the series, and the first one I finally finished

Persona 5 was the first turn based RPG i ever played. Pushed towards the game developer studio Atlus after playing Catherine, i tried this game not really knowing what i was going into, and I gotta say, I'm glad I tried it. The turn based mechanic didn't feel stiff at all and i didn't feel limited in what i could do, even though i never played anything like it before. It was a blast from start to finish, also because of the SPECTACULAR musical soundtrack that accompanied me through my 100+ hours journey, between defeating terrible people's own image of theirselves, normal shadows, destroying palaces and making new acquaintances. The social sim part is what really drives the game, as the gameplay becomes repetitive after a while, but never boring. Prepare to feel like a high school student again, although this time girls will actually talk to you and you won't be scared of them like in real life. Makes you think uh?

I love fusing Personas. Music is great. It's rare that most of the tracks in a game are this good. I think Persona games just have the best overall soundtracks in the genre. The game's art style is very unique and aesthetically pleasing. I've never seen a game as stylized as this one. The dungeons in this game are much better than the ones in the last game. I think they even take the cake for the best dungeons in a jrpg, but they take more awareness than the older titles' dungeons which gets kind of annoying for me because I just like to brain-dead force my way through the dungeons (thankfully mementos exist). I didn't care for any of the characters in the game which kind of undermines the social aspect of the game. The Story and villains were pretty bad (with the notable exception of Kamoshida). Also Akechi was barely a character. Nonetheless, I still found the dungeon of the month progression of the game to be fun even if the villains of the dungeons themselves were lackluster. The final boss in particular felt almost contrived with how little foreshadowing he had. The battle system in this game is great just like every SMT game. The negotiations were also cool but I don't know if I would have preferred them to the cards in the past titles. I felt that a lot of the time the negotiations were almost random in the correct dialogue options, even with a guide. But I digress; the negotiations were pretty fun in their own right and often times they demons are pretty funny. Furthermore, the shadows you fight in this game are the same ones that become your Persona rather than having shadows and Personas being separate things like in the previous titles. Overall the game is amazing in many ways but a letdown in the character and story department. I understand that the Phantom thieves are high schoolers, so I can look past Ryuji's abrasiveness and some of the phantom thieves actions, but I just think the social links in this game are weaker than in the previous. Although I did not enjoy the story much (especially with how long it was), I do appreciate the themes and message the story was trying to convey. The story looked at corruption and wickedness within the 'elites' and how the Phantom thieves combat such villainy. That's going to be engaging regardless of the quality of the story. So I was actually engaged with the story which is more than I can say for a lot of games. I have not played Royale, but I believe that the villain of that game is actually pretty interesting.

An excellent JRPG with a fun combat system and interesting storylines. Most of my time playing this I didn’t want to stop, I loved exploring the city, building relationships with confidants, taking on dungeons and Mementos. This game has become the new golden standard of JRPGs and almost a decade later, I believe it still holds that title. The only negative is that this game can feel endless at points, I poured 150 hours into the game and didn’t even see everything the game has to offer, which I guess can also be viewed as a positive but besides playing the enhanced Royal, I will probably never replay this.

This game has so much freaking style it's unbelievable. A wonderful RPG, excellent characters (Ryuji, Ann, Makoto was my team), and a plot that kept twisting with each new dungeon and an intense build to the end. There were some tedious dungeons...really tedious, but I liked the overall design of most of them. Loved the ending, endings are hard to nail down, but this game got it spot on. A solid 8.5
