This game is really hard but can be made a bit easier using mods.I didnt use any game breaking mods just some QOL mods like one that add a retry boss button instead of having to walk back to bosses when you die. That and a death counter Ending A took me 267 deaths.
What make this game difficult is that most bosses do 2 hp of damage each hit and you can get a total of 9hp before the first Ending (unless I missed something)

Nearly a perfect game, the cons are: flying enemies are annoying as fuck, I hate the gauntlets (waves of multiple enemies fights) and the fast travel system is very limited.Updated 13 Hours Ago

I honestly don’t even know where to begin describing this masterpiece. The art style, the incredibly polished gameplay, the atmosphere, the lore, everything is spot on. What really stood out to me was how alive and expressive the characters feel, especially Hornet. Compared to the Knight, she reacts with so much more emotion and presence. The platforming was also excellent, challenging, yes, but never unfair or frustrating. Before playing, I made the mistake of reading a bunch of negative reviews, and honestly, I regret it. They made me doubt the game a little, and I’ll never let that happen again. Most of the complaints I saw just didn’t match my experience at all. The difficulty felt very balanced, Hornet has plenty of tools, can heal three masks at once (even midair), and every enemy attack follows a recognizable pattern once you pay attention. Even the double-damage hits make sense: slicing attacks always deal two, and it feels fair that larger enemies hit harder than smaller ones. The only time I had a long runback was with Groal the Great, and that was entirely on me for not exploring properly. Once I found the hidden bench in Bilewater, it was perfectly manageable. As for currency, the balance felt fine overall. The only time I noticed any real strain was briefly in Shellwood, and even then it never became a lasting problem. By Act 2, rosaries were practically everywhere. I think most of the complaints come from people who didn’t explore thoroughly, skipped side quests, or died too often without making strings. Some players probably also tried to buy absolutely everything right from the start, which would definitely make it feel like rosaries were too scarce.
Act 3 in particular really impressed me with its boss design. Some of the fights were brutally challenging, but in the best possible way. Skarrsinger Karmelita was probably my favorite boss in the whole game, tied with First Sinner, both fights were incredible in terms of design, music, and intensity.
If I could ask for a few additions, one would be a tool to help with secret hunting, something like in Blasphemous, where a subtle tone plays whenever you’re near a hidden path or secret. It would fit beautifully with the game’s musical motifs. I also think the Magnetite Brooch should be buffed to attract Shell Shards as well, or else a new tool could fill that role. And I’d love for Team Cherry to turn the search for the Green Prince and Seth into a proper quest, like how they handled the Herald, or at least drop a few hints about their whereabouts instead of leaving it entirely to wandering.
I think gauntlets and bosses should give rewards, kind of like in the first Hollow Knight, where tough fights felt worth it. At the very least, they could grant rosaries upon defeat. It’d be really cool if Team Cherry added a special item from bosses that you could either sell for rosaries or break into Shell Shards, with the amount scaling as you progress. That way, hard fights would feel more rewarding and give players a bit of choice, and I’d love to see something like that in the game.
On top of that, I really hope we get a New Game+ mode with increased difficulty. The game is just so fun and rewarding that I’d love to replay it in a harder mode, not only are the mechanics rock solid, but the whole experience is so good that diving back in with new challenges would be amazing.
All in all, massive respect to Team Cherry. This game was phenomenal, everything I hoped for and even more. I can’t wait to see how they expand it with the DLC in a world that already feels so rich and alive, maybe an epilogue after Act 3? Truly wonderful.

Absolute masterpiece of a game hands down GOTY 2025 for me. Takes everything from Hollow Knight and perfects it while adding a tremendous amount of charm and difficulty. The game was absolutely brutal but I wouldn't have it any other way. From the environmental story telling to the combat and everything in between, I was purely immersed into Pharloom every second of the way. Team Cherry blasted the ball into outer space and deserve every bit of praise imaginable.Updated 17 Hours Ago

The hype met the expectations. The game oozes with style, the music, atmosphere are all excellent. The changes to the currency system once figured out was an excellent way to balance yourself from losing everything. Some of the bosses almost broke me with difficulty spikes, but if you were ‘patient pete’ you were able to proceed through them, even looking at guides didn’t really assist.
Exploration felt streamlined and the quest system added more excitement to the back tracking through areas. New characters felt welcoming and they existed within the world. Metroidvania perfected.

Personally I think its a good game but overall worse than the first game. The bosses are worse for the most part, but the world and exploration is about the same which is pretty great. Movement is definitely stronger but the world is bigger to make up for it. Like with hollow knight, there are things you can miss that you cant return to, which is annoying. Its obviously really similar to hollow knight, and theres a lot this game has going for it that hollow knight doesnt, like crests and other stuff. I cant really put my finger on why, but HK was overall a more immersive and fun experience. not that this game wasnt immersive and fun, but HK was just better. Still this is definitely a good game that id recommend, especially for the price. Its a little harder than HK overall but still good.Updated 2 Days Ago

Still the same and amazing, fun experience.
Hornet is cool af, haven't unlocked much but as far as I can see the charm system seems pretty nice, taking on the side quests system is so cool and really pushes me to wanna 100% it, cause of the immersion. The bosses and areas are really fun so far. Wish I could have dash at least but i'm sure i'll unlock it i think.

Lived up to it's predecessor, amazing game filled with so much content at such an affordable price on release. What really makes this game so great for me is how you can traverse the world, this game really gives you the tools to navigate this world with such finesse. A very challenging game and offers it to you ten-fold, so pacing yourself is important to avoid burn-out. Lastly the art style, I love it. It's colour palette this time around is less ethereal to the previous instalment and show's off harsher landscapes. A must play, especially for those in love with metroid-vanias.Updated 3.5 Days Ago

Great game, but man is it brutal at times. I think with a few tweaks this game could have been even better than Hollow Knight (which I loved), but as it stands I think it's a little less good. So here are some of my gripes. It feels like the game wants you to be frustrated and annoyed most of the time. So many little traps that force you to go slow. So many flying enemies that stay just out of range diagonally above you, throwing stuff. All the random sources of double damage. The janky hitboxes on some bosses. Constantly being broke because rosaries are hard to come by and everything is so expensive. Always running out of shards because you use tools on a boss and then die and have to make more.
Then there's Act 3. Man, I've never felt like such a noob in my life. Legit almost put down the game for good after struggling so hard against what many consider to be the hardest boss in the game (and I agree). But came back a week later and took her down after a few more tries and could finally go back to the other spot that was giving me trouble. That break was enough to carry me through the rest of the game without much trouble. Even against the real final boss, which surprisingly only took 5 or 6 tries for me.
Anyway, TLDR is the game is good but is very punishing and hard. But dang it's good and I wanna play through it again already.

I was frustrated at many points in Silksong, with a gauntlet room, with a boss, and of course with myself. But I never questioned whether this was a worthy successor to Hollow Knight. From start to end this game is extremely well crafted, even when elements were extremely annoying, I was sure that they were that way on purpose. That craft shows up most obviously in the environments, which I think are even better then they were in Hollow Knight, the art is more layered and beautiful, the environments foreshadow each other wonderfully. The enemies are totally unique to each zone and helped to build each zones atmosphere wonderfully. Exploring those zones was the most consistently fun part of the game for me... which is good because it's maybe half the game, the other half being the boss fights and gauntlets. Those are much more swing and miss, the best ones are the ones with the smallest run back and the ones that still felt fun when you were losing. That depends on whether it feels 'fair' or not. And what feels fair depends on what items you have and how good you are, so how the hell Team Cherry was supposed to balance that I don't know. That said the duel, or dance type bosses felt the best to me. The Clockwork Dancers, all 3 Lace fights, Grandmother Silk (was easy), Phantom, Fourth Chorus. When a boss is going well it feels so good, and dying is just a minor inconvenience as you perfect the dance. There wasn't enough of that in my book, considering how big this game is and how much content there is I think it would have been good to pay extra attention to rough edges in terms of runbacks and boss minion spam. Still this was a fantastic game and I expect to come back and finish of some of the more optional bosses as time goes on.

•▪︎■●{Real Score: 0/10}●■▪︎•This game is a huge steaming pile of garbage. The greedy developers are charging $20 for a flash game. Oh great, another stupid internet darling that's going to cause the gaming industry to evolve backwards. Trash like Cyberpunk 2077 and BG3 did more than enough damage to this industry, and now this piece of garbage is going to set gaming back 20 years. It's only a matter of time until a black and white 2D game about boxes gets overhyped by toy-collecting millennials. At $20, I don't expect much, but this is still overpriced. Just look at Cuphead for instance, that was also a 2D game for $20, and its quality looks vastly superior to this shovelware piece of garbage. The greedy developers charged $5 more than the previous game, despite it being a samey game. And you nerds have the audacity to roast COD for being the same game every year. At least there's a new COD every year, while the "passionate developers" take 8 years to make a 2D mobile game that's the same as the last. Over 15 million units sold and it still took these lazy devs 8 years to copy and paste a flash game. The gameplay is boring and repetitive. The boss fights are trash.
This game has some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard in my life. It sounds like the developers did the voice acting themselves because they were too greedy and cheap to hire voice actors. I paid attention to the credits to see if the devs did the voice acting themselves, and to my surprise they actually hired over a dozen voice actors. 4 of those "voice actors" had the exact same surname as the co-director. Are you freaking kidding me? You money-hungry, penny-pinching good-for-nothing cheapskate. You were too stingy to hire real voice actors, so instead you asked your family to do the job and paid them with pocket money, or hell, they probably did it for free. It wouldn't surprise me if the rest of those "voice actors" are nepo babies too. This outrageous greed makes EA and Take-Two look like saints in comparison. And you got to remember this "small indie studio" made millions from Hollow Knight, so they have enough cash for half-decent voice acting. One of the bugs sound like they're busting a nut when I kill them. The "Ooshka-low, kah-la-i la-i la-i la-i" NPC is next-level cringe and the bitch can't sing. It's reasons like this why it's embarrassing to be a gamer.
There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. I don't expect multiplayer at $20, but Cuphead was the same price and it had 2-player co-op. Not to mention how easy it is to implement that option in a 2D side scroller, and the lazy developers still tapped out to that multiplayer. And don't you dare point out that this campaign is longer than Cuphead to justify the $20. The metroidvania genre is just a cheap and lazy way to prolong a 2D campaign, thanks to this backtracking bullcrap. The levels are poorly designed. The enemies are lazily designed, a lot of them appear to be copied and pasted from the previous game. The new healing system is tedious and far worse than the previous game. And for God's sake nerds, stop comparing this shovelware piece of garbage to AAA games. True AAA games require thousands of developers while this low-budget flash game can easily be made by single-digit developers. Don't compare plastic rings to natural diamond rings. This is on Gamepass, but Xbox is so dead to me, so I got it on PS5 instead. I don't recommend this game at all.
P.S. The mods removed this from the review page and the ones prior to it. Oh great, it's always the internet darlings that the mods defend so much. Listen up mods, my reviews are my way or the highway. If this were a sports games or COD, you would've let it slide. I have to give this game a score because that's the only way for it to appear in the review page. And I hate this game. God forbid I have an opinion.

This is more Hollow Knight with a few significant additions while remaining the same at its core. And it does expect you to have played the first game, there is absolutely no hand-holding and the difficulty is probably tough for newcomers. We have the same sprawling areas with tons of secrets (maybe too many for me) to uncover and exploring, discovering new areas and wondering when the game will stop getting bigger feels amazing.
The music is great though nothing felt as memorable as in HK, but I think that's just because I haven't listened to Silksong's soundtrack outside of the game yet.
The bosses are the strong point of this game, with many memorable fights, some of which made me want to keep fighting that boss and thus I played them until I managed to no-hit, which felt amazing.
As mentioned above, there are maybe too many secrets for me, I should have refrained from trying to go for 100% completion. The problem with 100% is that if you miss the entrance to a secret area, which will most likely happen multiple times, at the end the options are either to go online to look up what you missed, or to comb through the entire map, which isn't the most exciting thing. I looked online but it didn't feel great and fulfilling. But if I hadn't done that, I would've missed a couple of amazing boss fights.
All in all a great experience which could have been better if I had not gone for the 100%

Everything does double damage, half of the enemy gauntlets are complete bullshit slogs, bosses artificially increase difficulty by summoning a bunch of little fuckers, you can get to some areas way too early and struggle to get through them without upgrades, and the runbacks are still here with a new contender for the worst one ever in the most fucked up area of the game. Team Cherry “having fun” while making this game in “development heaven” is actually sick & twisted when you realize that probably 6 out of the 7 years spent on this game were just them finding ways to screw the player over in sadistic ways… and yet this is probably one of my favorite games of all time. At the end of the day for me, all the good completely outweighs the annoyances. Shit, maybe I’ve just drank the kool-aid, but some of those negatives are actually positives to me. For instance, the enemy summons during bosses add a “bullet hell” type of difficulty that I actually really like. With Hornet’s upgraded movement, it feels like a natural evolution, to me. To truly love this game, you have to be somewhat of a masochist. You need to be okay with being severely punished for not playing smart. You need to stay determined and be okay with taking a break & doing some exploring to find new tools or hidden areas. Once you reach Act 2, there is zero hand holding and very little linearity. It is in the player’s complete control to say “this is too hard, I need to go look elsewhere and come back to this later”, which not every type of player will be okay with. You need to be okay with entering a room and thinking “damn I have to hit every wall and see if there’s some hidden breakable nonsense, because there probably is & it probably gives you like 3 rosaries as a reward for finding it. You need to be down for beating your head against a wall for 2 hours (if you suck like me). If you are someone who finds yourself getting frustrated or impatient with games, this really probably is not for you, and I think that’s completely valid… but me? I just love all of that shit. Really, the game’s biggest and only main issue to me is the somewhat lame implementation of the quest system. They are not created equal and many of them are just lame fetch quests. But they do push you to return to some area, which is a good excuse to do some more ‘splorin. The implementation, however, could have easily been more streamlined & fun. Regardless, this is (almost) everything Hollow Knight was, but turned up and fine tuned to 11. I especially love the implementation of challenging platforming all across the map. They took the Path of Pain and spread it all across the world. How epic. Masterful gambit, Team Cherry. Keep on crafting these beautifully detailed worlds with non-linear exploration. I love it so much. Can’t wait for the next game, where bumping into a boss by accident just deletes your save file or some bullshit like that.Updated 5.5 Days Ago

Amazing time! It's just a massive iterative step on the hollow knight formula. Everything great about hollow knight remains great.Movement is greatly improved and the tools add a lot of variety to the gameplay.
There are frustrating parts, but I believe those add to the experience. The struggle for rosaries really drive the narrative point of how this society worked. Especially when we reach the citadel for the 1st time and we have to pay for everything including benches.
Characters are charming and all have interesting character development. The lore surrounding the world is super interesting to uncover and conveyed in a similar manner as hollow knight though I feel it is also improved.
Some boss backtracks are annoying, but those are few and far between tbh and often for optional bosses which we can just come back later when we are stronger.

For a metriodvannia the elements that matter most are the exploration, platforming, movement, combat, presentation, music and story. I think Silksong is excellent in almost ever single one of these categories. The combat and movement especially are amazing and much improved from hollow Knight. Sprint is such a simple yet perfect addition to the game. Many people have complained about the difficulty of the game. personally, I greatly enjoyed the difficulty level. I love when sequels raise the difficulty for returning players who skills have improved from the prior game. Though, I see little reason not to have accessibility options for players who want (or need) it. but since i wouldn't use it, I can't say it absence has negatively impacted me. unfortunately, I do have a lot of minor gripes with the game. Far more than i ever had with Hollow Knight. There are far to many mod arenas. sections of act 3 are mid. the placement and amount dropped from beast shard deposits are laughable. there are a good number of pointless rooms. the diagonal lunge pogo feels super awkward to use. and so on. But non of that matters much when the major elements that make the game fun are so well done.

after so long waiting and everything, there'd be no surprise at all if Silksong under-delivered and could not live up to tremendous expectation. And yet, it came out and IS a masterpiece, in many ways equal and superior to HK. Intriguiing, rewarding exploration. Phenomenal traversal and satisfying combat with clever sense of progression and liberty. It's on the (pretty) difficult side, but it somewhat is able to balance its cruelty with fairness and readability, leaving the player not frustrated but ever inching towards the ultimate goal. Something i (a low skilled player) have NEVER sensed in my gaming experience. Many other difficult games i would have left disgruntled, this one not. Never. MASTERWORK for the ages.Updated 1 Week Ago

Amazing world, exploration, gameplay and progression. But in Act 2 sidetracking gets crazy, to the point that fed me up. Bilewater boss was obnoxius, I had to cheese it. And then by the time I got to Act 3, I just wanted it to end. Coral Tower was annoying and I ended up ignoring it.
Karmelita was extremely frustrating for me. And the final boss was very challenging too, but even when it took me lots of tries, it didn't frustrate me because it was an enjoyable fight.
Great game, with some flaws. And at the end of the day, just another metroidvania. They all seem quite the same for me, and this one doesn't shine that much.

100%-3 Annoying runbacks that doesn't add anything to the game but annoyance.
-1 Some platforming parts were too unforgiving. Monsters placed on platforms you need to land on. I did warriors march without movement skills on accident because the game didn't make it clear that you were supposed to come back later. Bilewater is hard without the purifying item, but once you get it it becomes easy; problem is the purifying item is in a hidden area.
-1 Parts of the game need a guide, otherwise you waste hours hitting all the walls.
-1 Act 3 was not fun. The bosses were either extremely annoying to fight (Karmelita, Nyleth, Pinstress) or extremely easy and beaten in one try. The only fights I liked in act 3 were Tribbio, Lace, and Dancer.
+0 Not taking points off, but some boss fights felt untested. Karmelita in particular was very annoying due to her high hp and blocking.
+0 Did not like the bosses that summoned minions. Felt very RNG.
+0 Flying enemies had an annoying "retreat" behavior.
+1 Some fun boss fights. Favorites were Phantom, Widow, both Dancers, both Tribbio.
+1 The new tool and crest system are mostly good.
+1 The movement skills and combat are smooth.
+1 A good number of memorable characters.

Amazing game, way better than the first one imho, combat is sharper and more dynamic, the world is more interconnected, bosses are phenomenal, both in moveset and design, soundtrack is great as well, very challenging some times (that's a great thing), the addition of tools is phenomenal, it gives you so many playstyle and options to approach a fight, it changes the gameplay completely along with the different crests, the only thing that can be a hassle are a few of the runbacks, also, the platforming "challenges" are far too easy, short and few throughout the game (except for mount fay, that's a 9/10 goated area, the time pressure from freezing was a very good twist) hopefully they add more in the future with DLC along with something like path of pain 100% all bosses, all mementos, all relics, tools, trophies, wishes, materium, passing of the age, etc, everything besides speedrun trophies and steel soul mode
