❝ - Our life is beautiful, brother. - Magnificent! - I wish it never changed... - And never changed us. ❞Great game. It's a shame we lost the gamedev of that era, but it's good that we can still play old games and enjoy them. Nice parkour, decent combat system and an interesting story. Glory to Ezio Auditore da Firenze!

Wow! This game was astoundingly good!!I played in 2022/23, and this game was still very enjoyable! Sure, the graphics aren't the best, but the story and world building is so incredible, I didn't even notice! I found myself totally immersed, which was quite surprising for me, because I'm usually a stickler for graphics. The game mechanics themselves (parkour, dialogue, puzzles, etc.) improved SIGNIFICANTLY. The first game got VERY repetitive, but I find myself very satisfied with the amount of fresh content this game provides.
Ezio's story is a massive step up from Altair's as well, as you can see Ezio mature and grow not only in skills as an assassin, but also predominantly as a person as the story progresses, whereas Altair's character development was more of a side note. He's also incredibly lovable and fun, which is a huge bonus.
Overall, an 8.75/10, would highly recommend!
TL;DR: Buy this game and play it. You will have a great time :)

I loved it when I was a kid (which is what this review is based off). I plan on playing it again to see if I still like it, though I can tell you now it is still better than anything Ubisoft has put out in the last 10 years (though I do like Syndicate).Updated 1 Month Ago

Arguably the best Assassin’s Creed game to date. Coming straight off the first game, the improvements are night and day—everything from the parkour to the combat to the mission variety feels so much more polished. The story is incredible, Ezio is one of the most iconic characters in gaming, and the world of Renaissance Italy is absolutely breathtaking to explore. It set the standard for the entire franchise, and even years later, it still holds up as a masterpiece.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

I love this game so much. The plot, the music, the environments - this game is short but sweet. Many say the franchise goes downhill after this in terms of quality, but it's hard to top perfection. The only gripe I have with this game is the combat feels clunky at times.

I'll start this off by saying this SHOULD be a recommendation.For context, my rig is running a Ryzen 5 7600X / RTX 4070-Super and 32gb of DDR5 @ 6000MHz
It is let down in the current day by several incompatibilities with modern PC hardware. I spent hours trying to get this game to work initially - starting with the basics, and then eventually moving on to editing the .ini files and changing certain windows compatibility settings to Win98 until I could get it barely running. To top it off, there is no controller support built in so you will have to further modify your game files for this to work. When I got the game running at a semi-stable rate, I had to limit the FPS to 50 to avoid stuttering after a while and upon every launch I had to edit the CPU core affinity in task manager.
TL/DR for this first section: THIS GAME DOES NOT RUN WELL ON MODERN MACHINES
Now that that is out of the way...
This game, when running correctly, is an amazing improvement on the original instalment. I've never played the Ezio trilogy and I picked up the first few games in the franchise up for very cheap during a sale. I can see what the hype surrounding the trilogy is about now.
The parkour does not feel as smooth as AC III and onwards, but I feel like it never was supposed to be smooth. Every movement you make scaling a wall or otherwise is a result of a direct button press. It can sometimes be frustrating to accidentally wall eject or for your input to be slightly off when trying to traverse the maps and be sent jumping to your death, but once you get used to how this game controls it makes a lot of sense.
The combat is quite meh bare-bones in my opinion. I don't care for it much personally. It feels clunky and hard to master. I found myself resorting to button mashing taunt and counter and when it wouldn't work on heavier enemies I just button mashed square. This is likely a skill issue on my part or missing an easy tutorial near the start of the game, but I digress. The combat does not feel great.
The story is an objective improvement over AC (1) in every way. I found the pacing strange but it was likely because I had to take long breaks to stop myself going mad over the constant performance issues I was battling. It delves into the artefacts a lot more and it feels a lot more organic in comparison to AC1. Rather than being told to "go here, speak to this man and then kill someone - then return to me to continue to the next mission" over and over again. You explore parts of Italy in the 1400s with purpose. I enjoyed that side of things a lot more and it made the story feel like a lot less of a chore.
Mission variety is also great. There are lots interesting gimmicks used throughout the course of the main story. Of course, you have the repetitive missions such as "tailing" that we all know and hate love, as well as the repetitive side content, but overall I found the main missions to be varied enough and new enough to be very much enjoyable.
The game itself, I would score around a 7/10 overall. When factoring in the major performance issues and trouble I had getting this game to run I cannot recommend that you purchase this game. If you're willing to trial and error your way into getting this game to run semi-decently then go for it - it is fun.

Overall, I should've just dropped AC2 at some point but playing it does remind me why I enjoy the games I like. There are people to this day who complain about games being "too short" but I argue if AC2 was much shorter, I would be much kinder on the game. I try to avoid calling any "mainstream" game I don't like as "bad" especially those I got to the end of and rolled credits on but there were many moments when I played the game that made me want to call it just that. If you're from Italy, especially if you visited Firenze and Venezia (Florence/Venice) this is one of the best game you can play. The plot is very good, the historical accuracy also.
The fighting system is not hard, especially when you achieve strong armors and weapons. Sometimes it struggles with parkour system, especially when you have to follow and catch someone else, it can be very taugh and stressfull. This can happens also when you're searching for an accurate jump, using walls. But this is the worst part of the game, consistent but it's not too much impairing. The gliphs require you think a lot, it's a very good mental excercise, I liked a lot.
Unfortunately, except for secret places for Altair armor, collectionables give any advantages, resulting in just some time wasting things.

Updated 5 Months Ago

Coming directly from the first game, this was such a brilliant extension to the concept of Assassin's Creed. The story had heart in it. The characters fleshed out. Everyone loves Ezio Auditore de la Firenze. The DLC's (locked memory sequence 12 and 13) were a bit lacklustre, however they had 2 of the coolest scenes in the AC verse so far, I just wish that Ubisoft has the "instrument to make more". Definitely cooked with this one, only thing that I missed was the modern day stuff. Not a lot to do in this one and was kind of forgettable. Eager to continue the trilogy soon.
