Cozy and heartfelt. Starts off quite easy but the last two or three levels are quite tricky. I can't say the plot is very "deep" per se, but it's all just very nice.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

A perfectly OK first-person platforming game. It's short enough to mostly not overstay its welcome, but at the same time, I have no desire to go back and get any of the achievements in this.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

Interesting swinging mechanics & some fun (although often not-well-telegraphed) puzzles to complete using the often-janky movement in-game, but also felt simultaneously too short and super-padded for the story they decided to present. (And the fish-people were super-frightening even though I don't think they were meant to be—ick.)Updated 6.5 Months Ago

A generally fun and calm game that I mainly remember from commentary channels. The appeal is mainly just having to get from one place to the other while the story tells you about your uncle and the great adventure. Overall gameplay loop is fun and calming and it is a nice short game to play and relax to whilst you complete your backlog slowlyUpdated 8.5 Months Ago

A Story About My Uncle is a non-combat, narrative-leaning. It tells a whimsical tale about a boy, his nomad and currently missing uncle, a fantasy realm, and jumping. Lots and lots of jumping!
Review
A very short but good indie game, the platforming is very well designed which was the reason why I brought this game. The narrating is above par and isn't designed to be played for it's story, It has a few challenges along the way but most of them are easy to overcome. I wouldn't buy this game full price since it's a short game but it's definitely worth a play at a discount.

Great concept, but they didn't do enough with it.Good
- The feeling of flying through the air and dropping a long distance feel realistic. The sound of the wind, the movement of the character's arms, and the speed lines in the corner of the screen help the effect.
- The background music is serene, making the whole experience very relaxing
- The jumping, grappling, and boosting all feel very fluent. Most of the movement felt well within my control. Whenever I died, it didn't feel unfair, most of the time.
- The environment was very beautiful, both inside the caves and out in the skies.
- The game has a low price tag
Bad
- The game is very short.
- Animations of characters are quite rigid, making them look very robotic, and the models look very dated.
- Story is nice, but very shallow. No twists or turns, quite anti-climatic.
- Too easy. The difficulty could have ramped up a bit more. Only in the last world did the game fully test your reflexes, awareness, and skill with the grapple.
- Voice acting was very monotone between the father and daughter. There were times where they could have added a bit more emotion to their tone of voice.
- They introduced a monster once in the game, then never brought it up again after. Perhaps this was for the better, since the "green light, red light" gameplay behind that section would have slowed the pace of the game down too much. But I felt they could have added different enemies, or obstacles to make the gameplay a bit more varied, and interesting.
Note:
This is an indie game, and the dev team was quite small. So perhaps a lot of my negative points can be excused for that reason. It's a cheaper game after all, and you pay for what you get. I feel if they had a bigger team work on this, a bigger and better sequel can be made. The concept is great, and if they did more with it, they can make something really special.

If you're going to make a precision platformer don't put the interact and grapple actions on the same button. The narrative and story telling is decent but you have to get through some awful platforming to get to it. A lot of the time I would have no idea where to go next and have to take big leaps to look around and hope there was anything I could grapple or leap off. It's a short game but since you can only jump and grapple it becomes boring fast. I played it with a controller but I think it would be less tedious playing kb&m.
I found this more frustrating than fun and so can't recommend it.

Despite its title, it's mostly a momentum-based first person platformer. The cover art is a good representation of what to expect.People looking for a story-driven game might be misled here.
The platforming was varied enough for me, definitely had some moments where I had to think for a few seconds to find out the intended route for moving forward. It gradually makes you rely more and more on momentum the further you go.
The default bind to reset to checkpoint isn't that useful but luckily you can rebind it (and the game automatically resets you if you manage to fall long enough anyways).
The characters (frog people) you come across have some creepy idle animations and some of them whistle in a tone that made me feel slightly on edge.
The game features some collectibles that unlock modifiers and, when beating the game, has a time trial mode.
Overall I enjoyed my time spent on the game.

Wonderful smooth movement, jumping and the energy beam grabling is fantastic. The way the story was told as a bedtime story was quite fun and unique in my opinion and I really enjoyed that. The game was a lot shorter than I expected and the graphics were wonderful. I just wish the crosshair marker would have been smaller for better screenshots, or that there was a way of hiding it temporarily. If you receive this game for free, its definitely worth it, but at just above 12€, I dont think it is worth it compared to the content length and quality. If you get it at a discount, be sure to grab it!

Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Mechanics are straightforward and fairly well executed. Story is a good length for a rainy day afternoon. Voice acting is not incredible but quite serviceable and not grating. I appreciated that many challenges allowed multiple routes for progression. There's a couple nods to pop culture of the time, but they're blink and miss it moments. Strong aesthetic atmosphere.Updated 3 Years Ago

A 3d platformer, with a sweet story about a kid going to find his uncle, who is lost in a mystical land. You go to find it and made some friends in the way.The story is told by your character to his daughter, about how he admired his uncle who always go on crazy trips around the world, and one day he disappears. You find a suit made specially for you and a teleporter to another world, where the main story will unfold. There, your character will knew some of the people in the world, made some friends and, in the end [spoilers]find your uncle that will teleport you back to earth, while he stays behind[/spoilers].
The main way of moving in the game is through an attractor ray in a glove (Like a grappling hook) that your uncle leaves behind for you to try. The game is short, and sometimes can be very frustrating, since you will fall, and die, and fall and die a lot (For an example of this: All achievements on Steam are for not dying on a given level, and only 1,5% of people got one.) There is almost no enemies, and the few that are there you don’t fight, only evade. After a while you find some other items, like a jetpack, and use all of these to move through the world.
Because of this items having a very big reach, and the fact that you can make really big jumps like living on the moon being a professional basketballer, most of the game is comprised of small islands really far from each other, something like Alice Madness Returns “Castle cards in the sky” level, you can say. That part of Alice was one of my favourites, just for the evocative, relaxing and melancholic feels it has, and Gone North Games nails that same feeling on this game.
Some symbols on the map help you go, like tutorials, when the path is hard to see. Given the big jumps you have to do in-game, sometimes they are completely necessary.
Another paragraph goes to the voice acting, which, in my opinion, is perfect. You can feel every character attitude, and feel the story through their voices, so much that a simple story about a lost uncle can get all the feels. Really a lot of love is put on this game story and the story execution.
The story might not be strong enough to make you cry, but it will give you a melancholy smile, and the voice acting will stay with you even long after finishing the game. Some parts might even make you laugh, mostly the dialog of a character you meet around the middle of the game.
