I must admit that I don't recall much about this game, which is telling, but I do remember that it was incredibly captivating, with little, separate open world areas filled with side quests that made me want to play for more than 100 hours. After I replay the game, I might have to go back on this review.

“Space Walmart Sells You A Half-RPG”

Obsidian gave us a clever little capitalist dystopia, but it comes with all the quirks of a mid-budget RPG that aimed for greatness and settled at “good enough.” The world is sharp, funny, and cynical, but much like GreedFall, you’ll spend as much time talking as fighting. That’s not bad if you’re here for witty banter, but if you came looking for non-stop action, tough luck — you’re doing corporate HR simulator in space.

The good: Companions like Parvati and Nyoka carry the emotional weight. Parvati’s shy romance subplot is sweet, and Nyoka’s grief arc lands hard. Dialogue choices do affect quests and relationships (though less than the game pretends), and the Science Weapons add some real “weird sci-fi” spice. SAM the homicidal janitor? Absolute MVP in your finale — a murder vacuum cleaner with comedy timing.

The bad:

No true romance system with your crew — a huge missed opportunity.

Fast travel limitations — can’t warp back to your ship from hubs.

Looting sucks — tiny hitboxes mean pressing X often raises your weapon instead.

Quick Resume is broken — leave for a while, come back, and boom: dumped to the welcome screen.

Fast travel clicks are finicky — sometimes you have to hit the exact pixel.

Pacing is lopsided: lots of long conversations, fewer memorable fights.

The story itself? Solid satire, with Halcyon’s corporate hellscape feeling uncomfortably believable. But the narrative never quite reaches Witcher 3 or Mass Effect heights. It’s sharp, just not legendary.

The Outer Worlds is a smart, compact RPG with killer satire, lovable companions, and janky little annoyances that keep it from true greatness. It’s worth your time, but you’ll feel the corners Obsidian cut. SAM mopping the floor with Board guards in the finale? That’s the memory you’ll take with you.

A good game, nothing extraordinary.
It's fun by all means, but it doesn't have anything incredible that leaves a mark. The gameplay is fun enough, it feels like a regular FPS; the peculiar thing about it is a sort of slow-motion thing that makes the shooting somewhat different sometimes.

The story was quite interesting, the interactions fun. The various companion you can find your crew aren't the most interesting bunch, but at least they are fun to bring along. Sidequests are plenty and luckily aren't really fetch quests, so that's a big plus.

Overall, I would say it was a nice experience, but a forgettable one. Something I will never really look back to.
If you want a somewhat interesting space adventure I guess this could be for you.

Very enjoyable game if you like fallout series, this game isn't as big as a fallout game but its vibe its like fallout in space. Weapon variety is on the lower side but maybe thats better if you have the dlc which I didnt when I played. I will at some point get the dlc and do a new playthrough so it definitely has replayability. 8/10

A solid RPG experience, albeit with a weaker ending than I'd expect, considering the strong set-up and setting. Nevertheless, I still had fun sneaking around and talking my way out of messes. I did like how there is some nuance with the choices you make. Not everything ends smoothly as you'd like making the narrative choices all the more impactful.

This made me excited for the upcoming sequel, and getting to experience what they do with an actual budget.

It's a decent game. Fun characters, fun dialogs. You always have to choose sides in the story which would make the replay enjoyable if you wished to do so. I thought the game was fine but not enough for me to do said replay.

For the right price it is worth the pick up.

After experiencing this game I conclude it is a middle scope game, with systems not as deep as a game like fallout. The story’s the game tells I feel averages to Ok, with a couple exceptions that feel great. The world and lore were also ok, besides a couple locations that had a good vibe, there are some pretty location… but feels empty. Combat was fun, the interactions felt impactful, more so with certain weapons like the gravity hammer or laser weapons. For story and choice there was a good variety, the overall story was not my jam but the smaller personal tales I think were good and the choices given felt impactful enough to feel memorable. Overall I think there is a good foundation here for future entries to expand on the worlds and the faction, which I felt were not to different from each other or real interesting in this entry. Now do I think this is a game to recommend and experience ? Yes, of you like Science Fiction or of you are looking for a more contained RPG with a shorter playtime this will be a ok time and that’s… Ok. Sometimes things need to be just ok.

This game feels like a fever dream of Bethesda, and strangely the lack of diversity in gameplay means that this fresh take on bethesda style rpgs makes this game hard for me to get through. The outdated graphics and cheesy characters don't help either.

A fun, engaging sci-fi adventure that draws clear inspiration from prior Obsidian efforts like Fallout: New Vegas & KOTOR2. Interesting characters, beautiful environments, and lots of fantastic dialog—an all-around great time, & a great example of a Western-style RPG done right.

There is some repetition in the enemy variety that wears towards the end, further hurt by the enemy AI being rather simple, but those flaws aside this is an amazing game in the first person CRPG style that I would compare favorably to New Vegas. New Vegas has the depth but I enjoy Halcyon so much as a setting and the conflicts and choices and writing are all very relevant to modern issues. This game is an amazing work of art and I can't wait for the sequel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Its my first Obsidian game, and I've never played a Bethesda game.
It was really good fun. The world was interesting, the characters intriguing and the plot satisfying. Overall, very happy!

There were a couple of lag spikes on the Steam Deck OLED, but mostly managed a consistent 45 FPS.

The game shows a lot of promise. Its made by the developers behind Fallout:NV and it does try its best to get to that peak level of writing but falls painfully short.

Gameplay was great and polished and in 2024 I faced 0 bugs in the entire 100% playthrough. The gunplay was acceptable, stealth mechanics felt lackluster, worlds and visuals looked beautiful but fell short on content. Many missions were fetch quests and the companion missions were completely skippable with no real bond created except with maybe 1 or 2 characters.

The ending felt incomplete and you wont even realise how fast it ended. While generic stories can feel wholesome or thought provoking, I didnt feel any wow factor at the end of the game.

Highs:
(+) Lots of hidden stories to find out
(+) Humour
(+) Visuals
(+) Gunplay
(+) Attribute/Talent tree

Lows:
(-) Weak questlines
(-) Low content
(-) Extremely short if you remove the fetch quests
(-) No depth for companions. I felt no bond with most of them by the end of the game

The Outer Worlds is a game that I struggle somewhat to judge on its own merits. It was billed as a spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas, and that game is possibly my favourite game of all time. I don't think The Outer Worlds hits that mark, but it's still quite good.

Firstly, the story, characters, dialogue, and worldbuilding are all great. The writing is consistently excellent, and there are a lot of dialogue options to provide some variety. It feels like you have a fair amount of choice when it comes to building and playing your character, and the kind of morality and allegiances they have. I had a great time exploring the world, talking with people, and navigating quests, and there were some legitimately tough decisions to make at times. I also have to tip my hat to the wonderful satire and critique of rampant capitalism.

Aside from that, the game has a great visual style, runs well, and has decent combat too. The stat system is also somewhat novel, though not perfect. Overall it's a very solid game. However, I still have some gripes.

I think the core issue I have is that the game feels too "contained." The weapons and armour are good, but there aren't many of them. The locations you can explore are cool, but not particularly big (except Monarch). Even the dialogue and choice system and its related outcomes, which feels deeper, still feels more contained in scope than other RPGs of its style sometimes. Also, the game has a somewhat artificial feeling to its world, such that characters simply exist to be interacted with, and don't have schedules or do much without you. By the same token, marauders are just mindless targets to be shot, without much explanation, which really contrasts the otherwise great writing. On top of all this, consumable items are mostly not worth using, useful items are far too plentiful, and the game is generally just much too easy.

The Outer Worlds had a lot to live up to for me, and I find that it's kind of split down the middle. The characters, worldbuilding, and writing were all great, and I have little to complain about there; the rest of the game, however, left me disappointed in places. The good news is that the good aspects generally helped me forgive the negatives, and I had a great time overall.

I may come back at some point to play an evil brute or try the Supernova difficulty for the changes it makes, but for now I think one playthrough is enough. It's a great game and I had fun with it, but it doesn't have the magnetism that New Vegas has for me. Still, it's very much worth playing, and I'd recommend it to RPG fans, especially if you like a lot of dialogue and player choice.

Epic gun play, the leveling was satisfying, being op felt great although enemies in the last stretch were tough as nails. Was friendly with everyone, revered by most too, loved my experience. Although it would have been great if companions had likes and dislikes, but at least this felt more freeing to travel with em.

This game was honestly just all right in my opinion. I did a lot of side quests and ended up being really bored. I didnt find the world to be all that interesting, it was like walking a line between being serious and a joke the whole time. I couldnt get comfortable in the world. The weapon selection is also lacking. Plenty of weapons but they felt same feeling, combat is a little stiff. Enemy variety is a standout. Admittedly I am sometimes turned off by big open world games, just because they at times feel empty. This one is okay, but there are definitely better options out there.

This game starts a bit slow but once it gets your claws in you it’s so good. It doesn’t do a lot in the beginning to get you hooked and once you are you’re very close to the end. So base game is like a 7/10. Nothing glaring wrong just doesn’t hook you. But with the dlc 9/10. Very solid writing. Peril on gorgon is probably the most serious the game takes itself and it gets dark. Murder on eridos is a murder mystery in a lot of fun with good tongue in cheek humor. This game does a good job of having your actions interact with each other. And has a full murder hobo route

The Outer Worlds combines my love of space westerns, sci-fi and sarcasm with excellent voice acting, dialogue, a good story, great action, good graphics and excellent RPG mechanics. Graphics is solid with a cartoonish tinge (think Borderlands, but less) - you could say there's a light heartedness to it. However everything is beautifully rendered, textured and has real presence. Nothing gets lost or mushy - it's well done. The audio borrows a lot from Firefly, as does the general world design. Maybe it was my soundbar but the audio wasn't loud - guns were good though.
What sets this game apart are the wonderful NPC dialogue, voice acting and conversations - so engaging.
The weapon upgrade is also a lot of fun until - however there are just 2 kinds of weapons you need :)
Loved the story, pacing and general missions, excellent game.
