While not many people like this game, I personally liked it. Despite the fact it's really easy I still got enjoyment out of the game. I will say this is not the most engaging RPG and there are many games that are certainly better. However at the end of the day, I find myself still coming back to play Pokemon X.Updated 5 Hours Ago

It was a pokemon game. Not bad. Not the best. I liked it though. My childhood classic. I had forgotten the whole story so I'm glad I could try it again. Not enough to somehow generate the 200 hours I had as a kid. But I had a good time. Also 6/18 8/16 lol.Updated 1.5 Days Ago

This game’s story felt fairly bland in 2013. It felt very relevant in 2025. The ending theme felt kinda cool in 2013, while it made me cry in 2025.As far as the gameplay goes, it’s Pokemon. Don’t keep the Exp. Share on the entire time, and it’s as good as any other Pokemon game, if even still on the easy side of things.

I haven't played POKÉMON X since it first came out— and in my memory it only gathered dust as one of my least favorite POKÉMON games, even though I always wanted a good excuse to replay it someday— thankfully, LEGENDS: Z-A gave me just that opportunity! and... I had fun! I still don't think it's great— the new Pokémon only have a few hits, Mega Evolution isn't a good enough roster replacement (especially since you'll go the whole game without seeing the majority of 'em), the story is really noticeably cobbled together, same goes for the rivals, villain team, basically everything with the writing— but I'm at an age now where I can really appreciate every unique thing a POKÉMON game brings— and for that one it includes some fun 'mons, cozy locations, unique berry farming, and Lumiose City— which really shines as a central hub city with the genuinely wonderful postgame that both forces you to explore the area in ways the main game never does while also getting you actually attached to its incredible characters. not great, but I had fun!Updated 4.5 Days Ago

7.5/10 3D (mainseries) Pokemon was what we all had been waiting for. However, the models were sort of lifeless on top of the overall region design being very weird. Exp. Share made it a bit too easy but you can toggle it. Personally, I don't remember any of the gym battles and barely remember the elite 4, and I beat it earlier this year... It gets points for being Pokemon and being Pokemon on my favorite system, as well as having a solid engine for ORAS to be built on, but not much else. Wonder Trade was cool too ig.Updated 1 Month Ago

Pokémon X Review: Parisian Pixels and Mega Mid-EvolutionsRating: 9 out of 10.0
Pokémon X is what happens when Nintendo finally decided to give their billion-dollar franchise a 3D makeover and said, “Let’s make Paris, but with monsters.” Set in the Kalos region, it's your typical Pokémon affair: kid gets handed a powerful creature from a stranger, abandons school, and immediately becomes embroiled in a plot to save the world from fashion terrorists (Team Flare, looking like rejected models from Zoolander). It introduces Mega Evolutions because evolution wasn’t extra enough and throws in a new Fairy type to nerf your overpowered dragons. In short: it’s classic Pokémon with a fresh coat of digital gloss, more sparkles, and enough nostalgia bait to choke a Snorlax.
Pros: The Elite Four-Star Features
+ Beginner’s Buffet: Starts smooth: level 5 starters, instant heals for the first section, and a generous handful of Pokéballs. Finally, an intro that doesn't feel like a punishment for picking Chespin.
+ Don’t Fix What’s Not Broken: The core formula remains untouched and thank Arceus for that. It’s simple, effective, and still hooks harder than a Gyarados with Dragon Dance.
+ Fresh Coat of Paint: The jump to 3D looks good. Animations are clean, environments are crisp, and characters actually have knees now.
+ Outfit Upgrade Unlocked: At long last, customizable fashion. No more looking like you're wearing your older brother’s starter kit.
+ EXP Share Love Letter: Call it easy mode if you want, but being able to level your full squad without grind-farming a route like a zombie? Chef’s kiss.
+ Great Poke-mix: A solid blend of new and returning Pokémon that feels like a thoughtful remix, not a desperate DLC pack.
+ Solid Pacing: The game’s linear but not stupidly linear design keeps the journey moving. No “where do I go now?” panic attacks here.
Cons: Trainer Troubles and Lazy Tropes
- Move Limit Madness: Four moves? In 2025? Let me have five or six. I'm not juggling toddlers, I’m trying to outsmart a Lucario.
- Room Copy-Paste Hell: Buildings and cafes look like they were Ctrl+C’d from a PowerPoint template. The ambiance of a dentist’s waiting room.
- Mega-Easy Evolution: Mega Evolutions are just cheat codes in disguise. Press button, win fight. It’s Dragon Ball Z-level escalation, minus the stakes. Looks cool but a bit cheap
- HM Prison: Why are we still doing this? Why must my majestic water dragon waste a slot on Surf for the rest of its life?
Neutral Zone: Kalos’ Gray Areas
+/- Team Flare: From Fashion Fails to Genocidal Maniacs: They start out like runway rejects, but their endgame actually has weight. It's goofy... until it isn’t.
+/- Gym Battles: 3v6 Handicap Matches: Sometimes gym leaders rock only three Pokémon against your battle-hardened six. Maybe a blind 3v3 would shake things up and bring actual tension back? Maybe give gym leaders more than 1 type squads?
Verdict: Pikachu Wore Prada
Ten years late to the party, but I don’t care, I loved it. Pokémon X is the right blend of old-school formula with just enough gloss and tweaks to feel like a worthwhile evolution (pun fully intended). There’s definitely space for more experimentation, but this style should remain a core entry template every few years. Don’t add 1,000 more Pokémon. Don’t toss in motion controls or “Pokémon with NFTs.” Just give us a clean, modern adventure like this one, and we’ll happily keep chucking Pokéballs into the void.

Pokémon Y is a game that's impossible to hate, but equally hard to love. It does what is says on the box: you go from town to town, beat forgettable gym leaders with little opposition, stop an evil team clad in matching outfits, catch the Pokémon on the box, and become the champion in short order. It's the default Pokémon experience, copy-pasted into a new region with a single twist. That twist, (Thank Arceus), is Mega Evolution, which is one of the coolest mechanics Pokémon has ever seen. Losing that mechanic later in the series is an absolute tragedy, but I suppose it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.Aesthetically, Y does just fine. It was the first mainline game to jump to 3D, and it stuck the landing. Pokémon models are clean, lively, and the thin black outline gives them just enough pop without looking overly cartoony. Kalos itself is fine; far from iconic, but was pleasant enough to explore, I guess. Can't say it inspires a France trip anytime soon, but alas. The environments look good, the soundtrack does its thing, but there's not a ton of soul present—this game was made to show off new tech and mega evolutions, and has no issues with stating that plainly.
Team Flare and their JoJo-ass looking leader, Lysandre, do get points for their overarching goal—nuke the place and start over. Lysandre's mantra of, "The world sucks; let's kill it and go again," reminds me of myself when I get particularly grumpy, so I like the relatability. Your rivals assume the cheerleader personality type, which is boring, and the story does nothing other than marking off the boxes of a Pokémon game template. Nothing is given much urgency or agency; it feels more like a very on-rails tour of Kalos and Gen 6.
It's playable. The Pokémon are cool. I had fun(ish). Pokémon Y is safe and polished—just sterile. It perfectly represents GameFreak's business model—make a Pokémon game with the least amount of effort and innovation. If that's enough for you, (like you have a choice as a Pokémon fan), then you'll have a good time.

Gonna Name Some Pros Before Anything Else:- Mega Evolution Is Cool. All Of The Designs Are Bangers (Though It Does Make The Game Even More Of A Cakewalk Than It Already Is)
- The Roller Skates Are A Good Substitute For Other Modes Of Transportation & Feel Good To Use General
- The Character/Clothing Customisation Options Are Great - There's A Ton Of Stuff To Choose From
- They Did Well Transitioning From 2D To 3D, The Graphics Look Solid & It Functions Well
- And Finally. The Gameplay In General Is Extremely Fun. Probably Some Of The Most Fun I've Had Gameplay Wise With A Pokemon Game
Now To The Bad Stuff:
- The Villains, As Well As Being Utterly Unimpressive And Not A Threat At All, Are Barely Present Throughout Anything Except The Very Last Section Of The Game
And Lysander's Motive For Destroying The World - To Maintain The World's Beauty, While Sounding Cool, Is Ultimately Just Stupid
- Your "Rivals" Are Extremely Underwhelming. They Aren't Interesting In Any Capacity, Nor Do They Even Fight You As Often As A Rival Should - I'm Pretty Sure Despite There Being 4 of Them, They Fight You The Least Out Of All The Pokemon Games - I Can Kinda Appreciate That They're Moreso Meant To Just Be Friends, But I'd Still Like Them To Be Engaging
- The Gym Leaders, Elite 4 & Especially Champion Are Also So Unmemorable. I Can Barely Remember The Champion's Name
I'm Just Disappointed Really - The Story They Built Around AZ Was Actually Really Good, But It All Meant Nothing, With A Heavily Forced And Anti-Climatic Conclusion
But Even Despite All Of That, I Can't Say I Didn't Enjoy My Time With The Game

I couldn't afford a 3DS at launch, so I didn't get around to playing this game until adulthood. I've played every other Pokemon game and a good amount of ROM hacks, so I'm obviously biased as a fan of the series. This was a game that took two tries to complete (I lost interest the first time), but I don't think it's my least favorite mainline Pokemon game. It might be? I'm not sure. Anyway, the franchise is great, Generation VI is great, but, at least for me, X and Y failed to meet the high standards set by its predecessors.I really enjoy the story and characters. Even though the nickname thing is kind of annoying and the story isn't exactly the tier of the Generation V games, it was good enough to not detract from the gameplay. Mega Evolutions are awesome and I'm glad they're coming back in Pokemon Legends Z-A this year. EXP being spread across the entire party is controversial, but I really enjoyed it as someone who doesn't really have the time/patience to grind anymore. I love most of the Pokemon introduced in this generation, and I think they've aged well as the series has gone on.
31 hours as the average time to completion is absolutely insane. I took down the Elite Four shortly after the 17-hour mark. I really appreciate how quickly I was able to get through this game. I struggle to enjoy games after about 20 to 22 hours, so I was fully engaged for [almost] all of my playthrough.
That said, I don't think the game itself has aged as gracefully as its predecessors, specifically Generations III through V. Overworld movement is clunky: riding Rhyhorn is painfully slow and the roller skates are difficult to control with the 3DS stick. The game also lags noticeably during swarms or whenever the 3D is turned on. Even when playing with level caps and without items in battle, this game isn't particularly difficult, which allowed me to bring a pretty mediocre team to the Elite Four without a ton of trouble.
Overall, I enjoyed this game. Like Final Fantasy II, I appreciate this game's ideas and innovations more than I appreciate their implementation. Why Mega Evolutions haven't become a staple of the series is a generational fumble that I will never truly understand. It struggled to find its footing as the first 3DS Pokemon title (and first 3D title since Colosseum & XD: Gale of Darkness), and shouldn't necessarily be judged against the other 3DS Pokemon games that built upon the foundation that Pokemon X and Y laid.

The sixth generation of Pokémon holds a special place in my heart for a lot of the things it represents. While X and Y are really strong games in terms of concept, the overall execution is extremely flawed. I’ll go over some of the most noteworthy stuff for me.These games introduced a lot of neat features, and character customization is by far one of the best. Despite the player characters in past games being very iconic and easily recognizable, getting to pick my outfit and change my hair to my liking gave a much more personal feel to this adventure as a whole. Mega Evolution still is, to this day, my favorite generational gimmick. It made fan favorites even cooler and gave new life to until then completely forgotten Pokémon who definitely appreciated the slight boost in morale.
I like the story of these games, I just hate the way it is told. The idea of traveling with a group of friends is amazing, but they did such a poor job conveying this feeling to us, the players. Your companions just pop in and out of scene so randomly and so much they end up being more of a nuisance than anything. Their character development is so laughably bad they feel like cardboard cutouts following you everywhere. If we only got more moments in which we explored places together like we did with the first forest of the game, maybe that would’ve helped. Exploring the environment while battling NPCs and interacting with your friends would’ve honestly been a blast.
The cast of characters overall is kind of weak. Team Flare is by far the worst villainous team in any Pokémon game. The admins are so forgettable (despite their cool designs) and Lysandre is the weirdest asshole I’ve ever met. He comes off as extremely pretentious and out of place every single time he opens his mouth. Even the Gym Leaders and Elite 4 of this region are flavorless. Most of them never appear outside of their Gyms, they have little to no personality and their battle dialogue is completely irrelevant. Coming right after a generation where the Gym Leaders had such an active role in the story, being everywhere all the time and actually stepping into action very frequently, it’s impossible not to notice how unimportant these new characters are.
The story isn’t as enthralling as I would like it to be, either. Everyone is just a bystander to all of the chaos happening around them. There’s not much action and reaction as there is being randomly involved in events happening in the world around me.
But the biggest sin this game commits is how OBNOXIOUSLY easy the whole entire thing is. You could probably beat this game with the weakest bunch of Route 1 Pokémon you can think of, with little to no grinding and absolutely zero strategy. That’s exactly why I turn to difficulty hacks when I think about replaying through generation six. It’s painfully easy, up to the point you can’t enjoy the entire battling aspect of the game even if you tried.
Now that I’ve gone long enough shitting on this game, I gotta say I kind of love it. I love 3D Pokémon as much as I love pixel sprite Pokémon. Graphically, Kalos is beautiful. The region is varied and some locations are actually fun to explore. The soundtrack is a blast, but that’s expected from Pokémon games anyway.
My major criticisms about X and Y were all noticeably fixed with Sun and Moon, but not with a third version. Kalos, in the end, has immense potential to be something great. In fact, it wants to be something amazing, but we were deprived of a Pokémon Z version, therefore, we ended up with a lackluster experience that could’ve been one of the best in the franchise, but wasn't.

Good game overall. 8/10A visually stunning entry in the series, introducing the Kalos region and 3D graphics that make the world feel more immersive than ever before. The new Pokémon designs, along with the addition of Mega Evolutions, add a fresh layer of strategy to battles. However, the game does take a noticeable step down in storytelling compared to Generation 5, with a plot that feels more generic and less impactful. While the gameplay is as addictive as ever, the lack of a strong, engaging narrative holds the experience back from reaching the same heights as some of its predecessors.

Played this a few days after release on my 3ds back in 2013. Still my favourite modern pokemon game and I still play it to this day shiny hunting and shiny hatching pokemon. The main story is a lot of fun and the gameplay even though it feels simplified with exp share does save for time (you can turn it off if you want that classic growth rate) essentially you set out with your team to eventually take on the pokemon league.
There's also some side stuff after beating the league in one of the cities that has you taking on a investigation case with a certain Detective. Multiplayer was a lot of fun too especially with the wonder trade system and team battles with people online.
The sheer fact of a 3d pokemon game on a portable system was mind blowing at the time too.
Overall still a fun game to this day and the visuals hold up really well. Also trainer customisation is at it's peak here in my opinion.

In the transition to the 3DS, the Pokémon franchise received its biggest graphical overhaul to date, going from 2D sprites to 3D. To accommodate the 6th generation, 72 new species were introduced and a new region was created – Kalos, which is based on France. The game also brought other new features, such as a new type of Pokémon (fairy), Mega Evolutions, character customization and the ability to train your Pokémon to improve attributes.
Even with all the new features, the game delivers more of the same and has some of the cheesiest gym leaders in the entire franchise, in addition to the simplistic story that borders on the ridiculous – something common in Pokémon. Kalos' Victory Road is unnecessarily long and we easily reach the Elite Four with a overleveled team, without putting in much effort.
