Its not a bad game, its just not too exciting for me. Kinda what I think of when I think of Kirby... having played a decent amount of Kirby games I feel this one just is pretty basic and forgettable.
Its a good play-while-watching-a-movie type of mindless game, but thats kinda it. I just don't have a lot of exciting passion for this game, its not bad, just basic.

The abilities and presentation are very good but the level design and Hyper Abilities are incredibly lackluster. Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are far better, even if this provided their foundation.

When I got this game for Christmas 2011, I was visibly disappointed in the picture of me holding it, bc I was extremely hype for the Mario Bros. Wii game. However, I'd say I played this game far more than Mario. Somehow, as a kid I 100%'d it: Collecting every collectible, beating every single gauntlet, all minigames, Everything. Something I can't do nowadays on the original or the remaster lol

[review in progress.. | playtime : 6h53]

Jeu francais multilingue.

Very fun game, it combines the level design of Kirby's Adventure with the ability system of Super Star while also having great multiplayer on top of that. From what I can tell this game has the most moves for abilities next to Star Allies. The bosses and stages are memorable despite generic theming. Soundtrack is one of the best in the series and the extra modes are addictive. There's a reason this is a fan favorite. Although I like the 3DS Kirby games more than this one, I can see myself coming back to this game a lot.

this definitely would be surpassed by its follow-ups, but it laid the groundwork for what would become the definitive kirby experience. every time i come back to this i'm surprised by the graphical quality; backgrounds are so intricately designed that it makes you want to explore them. it's quite apparent from looking at footage of the cancelled 2005 version of this game that they took that framework and polished up reeeeeal nice. the copy abilities finally have complex movesets again, after being mostly absent since super star. this leads to just about every ability, old and new, being a real joy to use. speaking of new abilities, man, water, leaf, whip, and spear feel like they've been in the series all along. the new grabbable items are cool too, allowing for puzzles that don't require a copy ability you might've lost a while ago. one thing that kinda falls flat, though, are the super abilities. you press a button, an animation plays, and everything on screen is obliterated. it wears out quickly, and the puzzles involved aren't really that sweat-inducing. however, they do eventually lead you to the sections in another dimension, with a bangin music track playing, and these are always a fun little challenge (although they always have sphere doomers at the end, and they get old quick). the boss fights are pretty neat here, but nothing really to write home about, except for the final boss, which goes hard as fuck. the sub-games also aren't the greatest, as they were made with multiplayer in mind.

yeah that just about covers it. very solid game and a great return to form for the franchise

this game was all I could think of leading up to its launch, and it SORTA delivered. It was definitely a new kirby game on a console, which was huge at the time, but the level design and themes were kinda just boring... Kinda similar vibes to how i felt playing kirby star allies, just not to that degree. I mostly played the game alone, since I had nobody to play multiplayer with, which particularly stung since I wanted to play as meta knight and couldn't since player 1 HAS to be kirby. The vibes are good and the plot and characters are memorable, its more that the gameplay is just kinda bland...

Extremely short even for kirby standards. The new abilities are lame, the super abilities are gimmicky and only cool the first time around. Poor level design, slow gameplay except for extremely tight timed segments. Beating the final doomer i was ready for the game to end. And then it outstays its welcome with two more worlds and another even less interesting boss fight. The music is okay at best, bad by kirby standards. Kirbies entry to 2.5d gameplay marks the downfall of the series. Its the worst kirby game i have played. Its one shining moment is the landia shootemup section. But the game is honestly not worth playing to get to that point.

Kirby's Space Ship, as I like to call it, is a nice aesthetic overall for the Kirby franchise. The series hadn't had a main release for 5 years, and hasn't had a main console release for 11 years. So I can see how Kirby fans were left starved at the time and the game definitely satiated everyone's appetites.

It's classic Kirby gameplay with a great soundtrack, lots of content and a surprisingly good story. Out of the 2.5D era Kirby titles, this one still holds the bar for being the best.

First and foremost, Kirby's Return to Dreamland holds to the mantra that Saturo Iwata and HAL Laboratories intended for the series. Anyone can pick it up, play it and have fun. I never needed a game manual or walkthrough through all whole game. It is the same sucking up and spitting out or swallowing to copy that every player has gotten to know throughout the series. The game adds a little motion control, but it doesn't overdo it. Shaking the Wiimote creates super suction, allowing Kirby to suck up heavier enemies and enemies further away. This the first console game that allows for 4 players. Unlike Amazing Mirror, if you choose single player, you don't have other Kirbys; you are on your own. Also unlike Amazing mirror, the others players can choose Meta Knight, King Dedede and Waddle Dee. It adds a new layer of combination fun. The layout of the levels and stages reminded me of Kirby's Adventures. Kirby's Return to Dreamland has 8 levels containing 38 stages. Compared to Squeak Squad, it may look like less, but it doesn't feel like less. While I prefer Squeak Squad's treasure chests unlocking collectables over Return to Dreamland's unlocking rooms, Return to Dreamland's collecting energy spheres, which look like gears, makes more sense to the story. At some points, Kirby's Return to Dreamland feels like New Super Mario Bros. Wii but with Kirby, but that's nothing to complain about really. This is definitely my favorite Kirby console game, and it might possibly be my favorite Kirby game altogether

To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the game. Return doesn't measure up to past series heights such as the astounding Kirby's Adventure, or the indomitable Kirby's Dream Land 3. The scope of Return seems intentionally limited and watered down. Without getting into too much detail, most of the stage design is over simplified and streamlined to the point of being banal. The stage design and challenge doesn't really start getting good until the final area of the game, and that's just not acceptable in my book. I suppose if someone had never played a Kirby game before, the near complete lack of original ideas in Return wouldn't be so painfully obvious. Maybe this is suppose to be My First Kirby.

+Cute graphics & peppy music
+Tight controls
+Mega screen filling attacks
+You can play as King Dedede and Meta Knight

-Co-op is a mess
-Overall game design ideas are 90% recycled from the past
-Most levels are simplistic and uninteresting
-Way too short
-Way too expensive
-HAL can do better than this
