Played this before the original Dead Space. Super fun on-rails shooter, love the environment, the game-play and the story.

Surprisingly quite good rail shooter. Graphics within the platform is bearable, and the control is adequate. The plot, of course, is not really great, but it's not a total flop either. Gameplay is a bit boring at first, but somewhere in the middle it starts to be interesting

The game is really good and is a PS3 gem. Playing it with the move controller and the gun attachment made it a very unique experience. Tilting the gun 90 degrees as if with a canted sight, triggers alt-fire for all weapons and is one of the coolest mechanics I have recently used. The locations and the story felt at home on the Ishimura as there were several callbacks to the first Dead Space. Only criticism was that the camera was not accurate in some enemy encounters where the enemies lied outside the view of the camera which locked itself to a specific point. Otherwise, the move controller worked like a charm and remains impressive even after 10+ years. Hope to play the game again someday as a remake.

8/10.
A little bit too easy even on higher difficulties, and a bit slow paced where cutscenes and dialogue happen (non-skippable), but otherwise really quite fun for a single playthrough. Has the qualities and themes of the main Dead Space titles.

A fun dead space experience. The on-rails suited the Wii for gameplay so that wasn't a bother, however it did remove the fear element as you were railroaded along. That said it's a solid on-rails shooter in the dead space universe... tons of fun.

An on rails shooter for the Wii. That might turn people off from the game cough couch my dad cough cough, but I thought it was a good time. Not as good as regular Dead Space, but I still had a lot of fun. The opening sucks, because it’s not obvious if there are necromorphs right away, and instead these lame zombies. There are necromorphs, tons of them in fact, just later. Not much later, but too late. It is the most immersive Dead Space though, because you turn the Wiimote to change plasma cutter orientation, and bring the Wiimote closer and further from the screen to change the distance of the sawblade. Man, I want Dead Space VR.

As rail shooters go, Extraction is pretty fun. It's interesting seeing how the developers adapted the Dead Space weapons for this context. However, having played the PS3 version of this, I can't recommend this wholeheartedly. The reticle constantly moves in one direction or another, even when you're holding the controller still. Instead of trying to actually resolve the issue, a stop-gap solution was implemented: Visceral bound the Move's centering diagnostic to Select. This 'works', but it's clearly not ideal. Although you'll have to deal with an inferior presentation on the Wii, not having to constantly fiddle with the controller just to get it to function properly would be nice.

Extremely hectic. Unplausible perspectives. Bad voice of actors. Story makes sometimes strange jumps and protagonists gather no ammo.

Dead Space: Extraction is an entertaining but flawed game. It's a prequel to Dead Space, and does a good job of filling in information and setting the stage for that game, although its story is fairly predictable. It's about as linear as you can get, being an on-rails shooter, but it does manage to be pretty enjoyable.

There are several weapons to use, which mostly return from Dead Space, but have some different functionality. For example, the flamethrower is actually really useful in this game (instead of being total garbage). There are upgrades, audio logs, and text logs to collect if you're attentive and quick on the trigger, but they sometimes go by frustratingly fast. It probably works better on the Wii, but on the PS3 with a regular controller there often wasn't enough time to grab things even if you knew where they were. Also, the camera is often very shaky. This adds to the atmosphere pretty well, but occasionally makes gameplay disorienting and frustrating.

The game has 10 Story Mode stages, making for a good 5 or 6 hour game. It's short, but pretty long for an on-rails shooter. The story is enjoyable, and it's neat to journey through various areas you explored in the original Dead Space, but it's predictable and occasionally has iffy voice acting. There's also a Challenge Mode if you just want to shoot more stuff and earn high scores, as well as multiple difficulty levels for Story Mode.

Extraction is an enjoyable side story for the Dead Space series, but ultimately skippable. It does what it's trying to do fairly well, but it has its fair share of problems. If you can get it for fairly cheap then it's worth a play, but I didn't feel compelled to do much beyond playing through the campaign.
